01:45.44XenguyFriendlyMan, Hello, are you a giant?
01:50.00XenguyPardon the whimsy, but of course
01:52.53mlsmithXenguy, I had to look that up. Never seen the show.
01:53.04Xenguyhah
01:53.15XenguyIt's in the past, for sure
01:53.43XenguyLook up... Look waaaaayyyyyyyyy up
01:54.06XenguyHe was the most friendly and chill giant ever
01:54.08mlsmithYeah that is an old show. It ended the year after I was born.
01:54.27XenguyYou could have worse people influencing your child ; -)
01:54.52XenguyI adored Rusty (the rooster?)
01:55.07XenguyAnyhow, dating myself here, as it were
01:56.38mlsmithHaha, no worries. age = experience & wisdom
01:57.01XenguyI'm still a sprite it turns out, mwuhaha
01:57.41XenguyI'm all for wisdom though
01:57.54XenguyIf we can't learn from mistakes, what's the point?
01:57.59mlsmithAre all sprites mischievous?
01:58.13XenguyIt's a hotly debated topic!
01:58.23XenguyBut yes, I think so
01:58.30XenguyIt goes with the territory
01:58.35furrywolfI've heard of it, but never seen it...  never been a tv fan.
01:58.48Xenguy.oO( Are we off-topic yet ? )
01:59.42mlsmithIs there an off-topic channel?
01:59.51Xenguyfurrywolf, TV was, and is, shite, but some of us got brainwashed by it before people knew it was a negative influence
02:00.01Xenguymlsmith, debianfork
02:00.15XenguyC'mon down
02:00.30mlsmithOkee dokee
02:00.58furrywolfXenguy: ... I haven't noticed that happening yet.
02:01.12Xenguyhah
02:01.17furrywolfthat is, people still don't seem to think it's a negative influence.

11:07.27specingin one of the gentoo channels
11:08.45specingI personally think portage needs a redesign, just resolving dependencies on my gentoo systems takes north of 15 minutes (core2duo)

11:45.16dethaMinceR: selinux is pretty magic. And against 1 vuln, I have been able to say 'haha, doesn't affect my C6 boxes because of selinux, patching can wait until normal scheduled downtime' many times.
11:46.16detha(and writing policies is pretty simple nowadays. It was an issue in the early days, when tooling was primitive)

12:08.42dethaHeh. There are two things wrong with RHEL: systemd, and the fact that towards EOL of a release the base packages become really ancient.
12:12.08djphdetha: so, the same problems that Debian has these days :)
12:13.07plasma41"towards EOL of a release the base packages become really ancient" -- that's true of every LTS distro
12:13.26dethaOnly half. RH has a pretty hard policy of 'No major version bumps in any package'
12:14.47dethaAnd because RH attempts to be a 'stable' distribution, they already start with old-ish packages every release
12:15.42sxpertthere are 2 versions of debian... "stale" and "usable"
12:20.10MinceRinteresting method of getting to a "stable" distribution, building it all on a piece of software that isn't even nearly mature and probably never will
12:20.17MinceRbe
