12:41.03osdfhaoehgsdahgoI don't want to troll but have to say that the new Devuan is a huge step backwards, compared with the first version. The desktop and menu are horrible eg icon-labels are not readable (consist of 4-6 letters or overlap other icons or are overlapped by the taskbar, many menu-items are under the wrong category etc. The first impression is really disappointing.
12:41.18buZzosdfhaoehgsdahgo: are you talking about XFCE?
12:41.20buZzor what
12:41.23buZzLXDE?
12:41.24osdfhaoehgsdahgoyes
12:41.25buZzgnome?

12:41.28osdfhaoehgsdahgoxfce
12:41.35buZzok, havent looked at XFCE in ages
12:41.46osdfhaoehgsdahgoI think nobody did, or will
12:41.53buZzyou are talking about the unreleased devuan version beowulf?
12:42.03osdfhaoehgsdahgoI was so impressed with the first Devuan
12:42.10r3bootosdfhaoehgsdahgo: you know, one of the nicest things about FLOSS, is that you can contribute yourself
12:42.18osdfhaoehgsdahgoI'm talking about the ASCII version
12:42.31r3bootSo did you already file a bug report?
12:42.43buZzosdfhaoehgsdahgo: you mean, you liked ascii's default xfce themes?
12:44.02osdfhaoehgsdahgoI don't care about themes, I care about normal thing eg that an icon is identifiable, labels are readable, that a menu has some logic etc
12:44.29osdfhaoehgsdahgoIt just a first impression, without touching/clicking anything
12:47.30osdfhaoehgsdahgoI don't like to be negative but had to tell, although I think no one really cares about trivial things.

12:48.08r3bootosdfhaoehgsdahgo: a lot of people care about it actually. The amount of people that reports it otoh is very slim, so in the end, not that much gets changed
12:48.26r3bootso, get your bugreport in, work with the devs, and fix it for all of us
12:51.24osdfhaoehgsdahgor3boot: :) I don't consider this all as bugs but as bad development. Filing bug report about such trivial things is a waist of time if the reason why everyone neglect this basic rules is not clear to me.
12:52.00r3bootosdfhaoehgsdahgo: complaining about it on irc doesnt help a lot as well ;)
12:52.20osdfhaoehgsdahgoThanks for reacting. I don't want to continue talking negative and wish you all good luck with ...

22:51.08systemdletethe Ascii 2.1 release notes do not seem to expressly state how to upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1; they DO say how to upgrade from Beta or RC, though.  Is it correct to assume the same applies to existing 2.0 installs?

23:05.20golinuxI'm not sure actually.  I think it would depend what's in your sources.list.  Can't you check to see what release you're running?  I'd use hardinfo for that/
23:07.13systemdleteThis is interesting.  My ascii-vm now boots to a blank screen; logging out of the last session left me with a blank/hung screen.  This is in a vbox VM.   Didn't have that problem previously.
23:07.22systemdletethe dm is slim, btw
23:08.06systemdleteI have not changed slim options, or any other desktop config recently in that VM.  I did, however, try to force re-install slim to see if that might make the blank boot up go away and bring back the dm
23:08.34systemdletescratches his head, trying to recall if he made any recent mods but nothing comes to mind.

23:08.58systemdleteI also note that postfix did not come up on the host, also running ascii, when I rebooted the host system 3 days ago.
23:09.06systemdlete(still looking at that)
23:10.15systemdleterunning startx from command line (in tty2) works fine.  I get my normal xfce desktop.
23:11.19systemdlete... switching back to tty7, that screen is still blank and hanging

23:11.33systemdleteSo something having to do with slim I guess
23:13.58systemdleteLooks like some issue with AIGLX?  drmDropMaster failure
23:14.11golinuxLook at the 2.0.0 release notes.  They must be around somewhere . . .
23:14.31golinuxI don;t have time to dig atm
23:14.42golinuxWill do so later.
23:14.51systemdleteI'm up-to-date, which I thought you said brings me to 2.1 ascii?
23:15.02systemdleteOK, thanks.
23:15.10golinuxIt should
23:15.31systemdleteso 2.0.0 release notes would be somewhat non-relevant now?
23:16.01systemdleteI mean, the VM has worked for a long time... ever since I built that vbox
23:16.37golinuxI'm really the wrong person to tackle an issue like this.  I'm more of the loibrarian.
23:16.48golinux-o
23:16.59systemdletenp, thanks for your input
23:17.22systemdletegoogling this issue; seems others have encoutnered it also
23:17.35golinuxThe backend stuff that would affect slim I think are also in the 2.1 release notes.
23:18.09golinuxI get confused between what's in the release notes and the announcement.
23:19.01golinuxHere you go.  I'll bbl  http://files.devuan.org/devuan_ascii/Release_notes.txt
23:19.36golinuxLook for:  - Session management and policykit backends
23:20.27systemdleteYeah, I found that already.  But why is it saying that "What's new" includes the 4.9.0-9 linux-image?  I only have -7 and -11 images
23:20.57systemdletenvm.  I read that too quickly.
23:21.03systemdleteI have -9 and -11, indeed.

23:25.06systemdleteaha... I see what you are saying.  The Release Notes do include stuff for 2.1, and they do say that Kernel Mode Setting is required... I'll look at that

23:33.05systemdleteNow it is working again.   Needs_root_rights=yes added to the Xwrapper.conf file, as per release notes.  Thank you for pointing this out.
23:33.36systemdleteI usually ignore the release notes for most distros because, historically, I have rarely had issues.

23:36.40systemdleteAfter reboot, however, the problem re-appears.  No DM (i.e., no slim).  the wrapper file still has the change I made.

23:49.46systemdleteI was wrong.  It DOES come up... after a long recess!
23:51.37systemdleteit does NOT, however, save my resolution.  In fact, when I switch from full screen to window mode, it goes back to 800x600.  When I boot, I get 800x600 also.
23:53.32systemdletenomodeset does not help really
23:53.47systemdleteIt still takes eternity for the DM to appear
