16:19.40bit2manThis desktop experience is getting more and more interesting ......
16:20.09bit2manIt does seem there are still areas I wouldn't expect normal non techies to be able to comprehend what's going on nor to fix it.
16:20.34bit2manBut MAN - has it come a long way since I first saw Gnome in RH6 ........

20:08.34quigleymdany of you guys ever have any problems installing from ISO images on a hard drive using a rescue disk?
20:09.31quigleymdit generally works really well (and fast) for me, but last nite i was attempting to install F7 from it's rescue disk using ISOs from a hard drive that had both FC6 and F7 DVD ISOs on it, and the installer kept choosing the FC6 ISOs
20:09.49quigleymdtook me two installs to figure out why i was getting a kernel panic
20:26.00sticksterquigleymd: Hey man!
20:26.14sticksterquigleymd: I think it has something to do with anaconda's heuristics for finding ISO images
20:26.27sticksterDo you have them in a separate directory?
20:26.50sticksteri.e. f7/F-7-i386-DVD.iso
20:36.21quigleymdstickster: nope I didnt, well, i eventually moved them and got them to work
20:36.51quigleymd*moved them and got IT to work
21:02.45bit2manquigleymd: so you're trying to run the install directly from the drive?? Didn't know anaconda could use an ISO as a source for the install?
21:06.58quigleymdbit2man: yep, you can boot the rescuecd and direct the installer to look on a harddrive for an iso to use as an install image
21:07.19quigleymdi think ext and fat work, not sure about ntfs
21:07.21quigleymdi used fat32
21:07.29quigleymdmakes for a speedy install
21:11.48bit2manhmmm .. would an nfs mounted ISO be available?
21:11.52bit2manI could use that feature :)
21:12.21bit2manmeaning an ISO on an NFS share/mount point
21:42.42quigleymdbit2man: im not sure, i dont use nfs much. there may be a nfs option on the rescuedisk, but i dont remember for sure
21:43.08bit2manquigleymd: The anaconda has NFS, but that's to a "extracted" iso image.
21:43.41quigleymdunderstood
21:43.56sticksterbit2man: Yes, that should work
21:44.11quigleymdi've never actually looked at the structure of the ISOs, could you just mount them using loop?
21:44.15quigleymdand then nfs share that?
21:44.23sticksterquigleymd: absolutely
21:44.23sticksterI've done that
21:44.27quigleymd:D
21:44.28sticksterIn fact, I do that at home
21:44.56sticksterI do "mount -ro loop,context=system_u:object_r:httpd_sys_content_t <image_name> <mntpoint>"
21:45.09quigleymdi like it :)
21:45.27sticksterThen I can share it out via HTTP
21:45.40sticksterNFS isn't such a good idea unless you make sure your NFS server only serves via TCP
21:45.49sticksterOtherwise bad things can happen during installs
21:59.36bit2manstickster: right, but getting the ISO via http can be quite slow ... anyway, that's sorta what I do (execpt I don't include security contexts) when I do rescue boots and stuff. I usually install my Linux from "http" or sometimes NFS sources (if it's PXE)
21:59.41bit2manand it's just a loop mount
21:59.53bit2manhey - any of you guys XSD (Xml schema) gurus?
