13:59.14sticksternmcbride_: go
15:38.24nmcbride_stickster: basically for networks that are wep i turn off wpa_supplicant or it wont connect and instead just keeps asking me for my key over and over even tho I already unlocked the keyring, so I turn it off and it connects then after a few seconds wpa_supplicant turns on and I get disconnected everytime.
15:38.29nmcbride_thats the firs tone :D
15:39.02sticksternmcbride_: Have you asked about this on #fedora or at the Fedora Forum?
15:39.52sticksterI use WPA here so I can't confirm the behavior
15:40.15nmcbride_I found similar issues on the fedora forum which is where someone said to turn off wpa_supplicant, but theirs worked after they did that
15:40.37sticksterYou can check your GConf registry to make sure the network listing isn't incorrectly set for WPA requirements
15:41.33nmcbride_whats that under?
15:42.35nmcbride_i did a search wpa and it isn't finding anything, altho i should probably check as root
15:43.33nmcbride_ya it doesn't find wpa anywhere
15:43.38nmcbride_anyway secondly
15:43.48nmcbride_the second issue is i made a udev rule to make /dev/net/tun chmod 0666 and for some reason after updating it isn't applying the udev rule
15:44.08nmcbride_it updated the kernel is what i ment to say
15:44.26nmcbride_i changed the general conf and tried it as its own rule and no go
16:16.40sticksterhas to hit the road, back in a bit
16:18.00sticksterwill think about the latter

21:37.17nmcbride_stickster: how come in fedora 8 I can't 'modprobe ide-scsi' ?
21:37.37sticksternmcbride_: Umm... because it doesn't exist anymore?
21:37.49nmcbride_cool these are the answers im trying to get to
21:37.52nmcbride_whats used now?
21:37.57sticksternmcbride_: GIYF
21:38.05nmcbride_im trying to get an old tape dive to work
21:38.17nmcbride_GIYF?
21:38.48sticksterGoogle Is Your Friend
21:38.50stickster:-)
21:39.00nmcbride_no joke? thats where I found all the ide-scsi stuff?
21:40.10nmcbride_can it be found on the fedora site?
21:41.08sticksternombyte: What kind of tape drive?
21:41.18sticksternmcbride_: What kind of tape drive?
21:41.23nmcbride_a travan hornet
21:41.28nmcbride_STT20000A
21:41.54sticksterOuch
21:41.58sticksterThat's frickin' old
21:42.02nmcbride_ya
21:42.06nmcbride_im broke and it was free
21:42.27nmcbride_:D
21:42.50nmcbride_this is on the fedora mailing list: ide-scsi is completely broken in 2.6 currently. Known problem.
21:42.50nmcbride_<PROTECTED>
21:42.52sticksterI'm not even sure that's supported anymore.
21:43.12sticksterYup, you might want to try an older Linux to try it out
21:43.14nmcbride_a friend of mine has one working but i can't get a hold of him cause he's mia :D
21:43.21nmcbride_in F8
21:43.35nmcbride_do u know what module needs to be loaded for scsi emulation?
21:43.36sticksterKeeping in mind that you'll need older hardware so as not to confuse the older Linux.
21:44.46sticksterSo the interface is IDE?
21:44.51nmcbride_correct
21:44.53sticksterIt's not a parallel over IDE is it?
21:45.03nmcbride_i don't think so
21:46.10sticksterThere's info in /usr/share/doc/kernel-*/Documentation/ide.txt about engaging ide-tape
21:46.30sticksterI'm not sure how up to date it is, but it's definitely at the 2.6 level.
21:46.48sticksterYou need the 'kernel-doc' package installed
21:47.12nmcbride_i need someone to ssh in and take a look :D :P
21:47.39nmcbride_im learning all this tape stuff and a workig drive at home would be awsome to practice on
21:48.46nmcbride_so basically i have to reboot and add "hdx=scsi" to my kernel line?
21:48.53sticksterYou can try
21:49.00sticksterI have no idea if that still works.
21:49.16nmcbride_is the 'x' a placeholder
21:49.24nmcbride_or do i actually use x
21:49.26sticksteryes for a letter for the drive position.
21:49.35stickstera = primary master, b = primary slave, c = sec master, etc.
21:49.58nmcbride_i wonder if its bad that there is no mention of the drive in dmesg... :D
21:50.02sticksterThat's why I think that's iffy -- because now there's a new libata library that makes all those SCSI devices.
21:50.32nmcbride_wait yes there is
21:50.33nmcbride_ata1.00: ATAPI: Seagate STT20000A, 8.43, max MWDMA2
21:50.33nmcbride_scsi 0:0:0:0: Sequential-Access Seagate  STT20000A        8.43 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
21:50.50sticksterWell then you probably have support.
21:50.58sticksterHave you looked to see if you have a /dev/st* device?
21:51.06sticksterand/or /dev/nst*
21:51.07nmcbride_i do thats not the problem
21:51.12nmcbride_the problem is:
21:51.30nmcbride_Apr  4 16:15:55 mainframe kernel: st0: Sense Key : Illegal Request [current]
21:51.30nmcbride_Apr  4 16:15:55 mainframe kernel: st0: Add. Sense: Invalid command operation code
21:51.44sticksterDo you know for certain the hardware works?
21:51.46nmcbride_i have no idea what that is and google wasn't helpful
21:51.56nmcbride_no it was free and i just got it
21:52.08sticksterYeah, I'd look at it as suspect until proven innocent.
21:52.24nmcbride_thats what im trying to do i just don't know enough
21:52.29sticksterNormally, Sense Key: Illegal Request errors like that mean the drive responded with something that doesn't make any sense to the controller.
21:52.41sticksterYou see it a lot on drives going bad.
21:52.46sticksters/drives/hard drives/
21:52.54nmcbride_if i do
21:52.56sticksterhas to go back to work, sorry
21:53.02nmcbride_np thanks
21:53.04nmcbride_:D
21:53.34nmcbride_usb storage is cheaper :P I just wanted a drive i didn't have to ssh to to use, but atleast we have a sweet one at work :D
