00:10.26gregj6is go-mono.com worrking for anyone ?
00:10.33gregj6it fails to resolve host here
00:11.52rhowe_Seems to resolve..
00:12.01rhowe_hrm, or maybe not
00:31.41evangineerit resolves but I'm getting a test page, so their web site must be "indisposed". ;-)
00:39.01gregj6yes
00:39.08gregj6that's what I am getting now too
00:39.13gregj6their in maitanance
00:39.15gregj6or someth
00:40.36gregj6s/xsl/xsp/
00:42.36evangineerxsp, cocoon?
00:46.20evangineerah, that xsp!
00:47.11evangineerlike the mono equivalent of tomcat!
01:04.11gregj6xsp, mono equivalent of IIS
01:04.24gregj6go-mono.comm is back again
01:06.44evangineerxsp is written in C# just as tomcat is written in Java, hence the comparison.
01:07.24evangineertomcat is also a web server, not just a servlet runner.
01:09.38gregj6xsp is also a server
01:09.47gregj6can work as standalone server, bit primitive thou
01:09.52gregj6hence mod_mono
01:16.58gregj6just as primitive as IIS
01:16.58gregj6:D
01:30.00evangineerhmm, one good thing about having learnt about linux using slackware.  when solving problems on funky distros like gentoo, you can cut through the funkiness to the heart of the matter!

09:30.05TarragonJust when I thought the world was safe - Germany does not have today as a Bank holiday. Oh Well can't be that much to do in the office :-(
09:31.32Leeds:-(
09:33.33morsingIt's only a bank holiday over here as far as I know
09:34.05murbit isn't in .de
09:34.21morsingnor in any scandinavian country
09:35.02murbI think it is also a holiday in ireland.
09:35.08LeedsI wonder if it is in Eastern Europe...
09:35.24morsingWhy would it be?
09:35.35morsingApparently you don't even have a reason for it!
09:35.57murbmorsing: may bank holi,day.
09:36.13Cope`HomeIt isn't in US... which means I have to work, since I have a US client with a 1 day deadline in which to generate new verisign certificate for use with weblogic :-(
09:36.16morsingThat not a reason [rolleyes]
09:37.00murbmorsing: well having a holiday on may day clearly coudln't happen if possible, even when it  is during the week.
09:37.09murbso they have to have a replacement holiday.
09:40.10TarragonHArold Wilson brought it in for the UK to try and standardise with Europe in having 1 May as national labour day. The difference is in the UK we adjust the holiday to the nearest Monday. hat is why we only have eight bank holidays but get to take then all. Germany has more but does not move them. This year will be bad for German workers as Christmas day is on a Saturday
09:41.08morsingYou move Xmas as well ;-)
09:41.49murbor googability :)
09:41.57Cope`Homelol - cycnic
09:42.14Cope`Homeanyway - back to ssl :-)
09:42.20murbif it i s the correct answer who cares :)
09:42.30Cope`Homequite
09:42.30TarragonThe hoilday as is the day workers take off is moved to the monday and Tuesday for St Stephens day. Everyone will still celebrate on the Saturday.
09:42.51TarragonNo google, no amazing, just very very old!
09:44.48LeedsTarragon: everyone will celebrate? :-)
09:45.38TarragonNot in a religious sense, but you will stay in and listen to the Queen and complain about the repeats on TV, surely?
09:46.04Cope`HomeIf I encrypt a random message that, eg, Leeds sends me using my private key and send it back - is this considered insecure - can the encrypted version be used by leeds against me to find out my private key?
09:46.17Cope`Home(just trying to get my head around SSL)
09:46.27Cope`Home(in noddy stages)
09:48.01morsingNo, they private key can't even be found if you give him the public key itself
09:48.14morsingTHat's the beauty of RSA
09:48.34Cope`Homethen why bother with digital signatures
09:49.07TarragonBy rights, no, because you have not handed over your private key.  In practise it should make it easier but message lenght would be more important to crack because of patterns
09:51.14LeedsTarragon: I'll probably be in Nottingham doing Jewish stuff on the 25th, so no...
09:53.05TarragonIf I uploaded a public key that was really mine but said it was yours, then without signature it could be used to spoof mail. Signature and message are coded with one private key and one public key, one form each party.
09:53.09murbmorsing: yes it can, it is very simple, but not very fast.
09:53.22murbif you can compute descrete logriphtms fast, you may have a problem.
09:54.19morsingWell, you're basically trying your luck
09:55.24murband you only use this normally for copmuting a session key.

10:00.33morsingAnyone going to Linux 2004?
10:01.00murbto what?
10:01.25morsing<PROTECTED>
10:01.42TarragonIn Leeds?
10:02.12morsingYup
10:02.29Leedsoh, yeah...
10:02.46Leedsy'all are invited to my birthday party that weekend... in Leeds :-)
10:03.28TarragonHurrah!
10:03.28morsingyay
10:03.28Leedsit'll be the first time in about 8 years I've been in Leeds for it...
10:03.35morsing:-)
10:06.26morsingAre 30 pound microwave owens dangerous?
10:06.41TarragonIf dropped on your head
10:06.47morsingOr poor quality?
10:07.11morsingIs it a bad idea to buy one (I won't drop it on  my head)?
10:07.30murbmorsing: yes i'll be up for that.
10:07.33murbthe linux20004
10:07.37murbs/000/00/
10:07.52morsingI'm not sure yet though
10:08.09murbI'm not certain but i plan to.
10:08.11morsingAlthough I have heard that Leeds is UK's premier city
10:08.20murbdepends if it conflictgs with any other holidays.
10:10.08TarragonI guess for £30 they would probably be poorer in quality - door hinge more likely to break, but would not be dangerous in useage. Would not have all the features the modern microwaves have
10:11.40Cope`HomeWhat's an example of something one would never normally sign with one's private key?
10:16.06Cope`HomeI'm here - Leeds sends Cope a message, Cope computes a digest of Leed's message, encrypts it and sends it back to leeds - doesn't this presuppose that Leeds and Cope are using the same digest algorithm?
10:16.23morsingYes
10:16.55Cope`HomeHow is this the case - if everyone has the same digest algorithm what's the point in using it?
10:17.20Cope`HomeDigest[message] is no more secure than message if everyone knows the algorithm
10:19.47morsingBut you're using Leed's public key to encrypt it.
10:20.11morsingAnyone sending messages to Leeds has to use his key set
10:20.12TarragonA digest algorithm can be used to check data integrity. So we all know what is in the file, but an MD5 or similar checksum is used to check it is tramsmitted OK
10:23.18Cope`HomeMy notes say: The digest is difficult to reverse and difficult to find a message that computes to the same digest value.
10:23.34Cope`HomeStrikes me as an extra layer of protection
10:24.39Cope`HomeThis cryptography is a bit of a head spinner!
10:24.43Cope`Home:-) But its fun
10:26.30morsingDoes SASL provide encryption or is it only authentication?
10:37.02Cope`Homeboth, I believe
11:36.12Cope`Homewell we can't have a whole hour without any action.
11:41.06wethrin59 minutes :)
11:42.56wethrinAnyone know how SATA performs compared to standard IDE?
11:43.25morsingWhy would it be different?
11:43.59wethrinData transfer rates?
11:44.27morsingserial SCSI is the way to go
11:44.55wethrinThey're not very cheap :)
11:45.17wethrinAlthough, apparently, it's fairly easy to convert SATA to SAS
11:49.16murbwethrin: it depends on the controller and the disk
11:49.29murbyou can in theory get nice scsi like features.
11:49.46murboh and the state of the driver.
11:52.07wethrinHmm.
11:53.10wethrinI'm thinking if it's worth moving towards SATA in the fileserver, or just sticking to standard UIDE
11:53.30wethrinGiven that the hard drive costs about £20 more, and I can get a SATA controller for £13.50
11:59.23Cope`Homehi wethrin
11:59.28Cope`Homeany joy with ss20?
12:01.48murbwethrin: i think SATA is a bit of a new thing at the moment, so i'd wait.
12:03.49Cope`HomeDoes this make sense:
12:03.56Cope`HomeCope -> Imposter: Hello
12:04.16Cope`HomeImposter -> Cope: Hi, I'm Leeds, Leeds-Cert
12:04.34Cope`HomeCope -> Impoposter: Ok, Prove it.
12:05.08Cope`HomeImposter -> Cope: I am Leeds { digest[I am Leeds }!Leeds-Public Key
12:05.44Cope`Homeie He can't prove it because Cope can't decrypt what Imposter said using the public key gleaned from the cert?
