09:51.05kjsHummm, last night i swapped hosting from one company to my linux server, before they had an exchange server picking up mail with a pop connector... i changed to smtp and for a postfix server to relay mail for that exchange server. Last ngiht they had 100 old emails resent to them... any ideas?? I don't see them on my server logs wondering why exchange would do this, unless it is the old hosting company.
09:58.53antiphaseTell them to delete the duplicates and hope it doesn't happen again

10:38.46j0nrmorning
10:38.53DiscordianMorning
10:39.18j0nri'm bemused... once again
10:39.18morsingUh-oh - someone trying to scam me...
10:40.31j0nri installed a mail server collection of items (heh) using synaptic. I just opened mutt and sent an email and it went out to the outside world. from my user@mymachine but obviously i couldnt reply to that address
10:42.01morsingErmm... Any sensible way of dealing with scammers, i.e. report them somewhere or is it a waste of time?
10:42.20antiphaseWhat variety of scammer?
10:42.21Stephmwhitmen?
10:44.08morsingWell, I posted a "Wanted" ad ona forum a while ago and he's saying he has item I want. Have been emailing him fora week and he's now sent me an email saying I should pay 390 EUR by Western Union to his "friend". I Googled his email address because how dumb does he think I am, and he's on a scammer list somewhere already
10:46.12StephmwUK-based?
10:46.23morsingHmm...Suppose you can't really get these people
10:46.49wethrinSimplest is to ignore it. You can report him to the police, but it's doubtful they'll do anything
10:47.02morsingWell, think so, Mark Creek and he's got a yahoo.co.uk address. He's on this list: http://www.xmission.com/~daina/known_scammers.html
10:47.54wethrinj0nr: You need to tell mutt your correct email address
10:48.23wethrin'set from="j0nr <j0nr@j0nr.com>"'
10:48.24morsingRight, going to town, bbl

10:53.03halii knew those thumpers wouldn't last long
10:53.35bilarhwell, if the disks are full of porn, i fail to see the problem
11:24.02*** join/#gllug Discordian (n=clive@chills.demon.co.uk)
11:35.42halibilarh: i can't get any *more* porn on there, that's a huge problem

11:47.08ChoHagI'm bored.
11:47.43bilarhchohag: check out hali's disks
11:49.13ChoHagThey sound NSFW.
12:48.48j0nrwethrin: thanks... altho i wont bother setting it up... just was amazed it sent the mail out.
12:49.05j0nri will still one day get round to understanding the whole mail server thing
13:01.25ChoHagNo you won't.
13:01.57ChoHagNobody does.

13:38.25wethrinPff. SMTP isn't hard.
13:39.31ChoHagWell duh. It's the SIMPLE mail transfer protocol. Of course it isn't hard.
13:40.25Nafallohahaha
13:40.44Nafalloand no, SMTP isn't the hard part of mailservers ;-)
13:41.21antiphaseWhat's the hard bit?
13:41.31wethrinHaving a clue :)
13:42.32antiphasegoes back in time and uninvents greylisting
13:43.27wethrinHow about just killing spammers' parents?
13:43.51wethrinAs greylisting wouldn't be needed, if it wasn't for a bunch of cockwaffles
13:45.43Nafallowethrin: as I said... SMTP isn't the hard part. all the automagic things to DTRT is the hard part. including the Terminators on mission to stop 'bad' e-mail :-)
13:48.15ChoHagHere's a question - how much violence is too much in the fight against spammers?
13:48.32NafalloChoHag: none.
13:49.37antiphaseDNS blacklists spend their day helping African children when they're not stopping 99% of spam
13:50.03antiphaseIt's been months since any spam got anywhere near my SpamAssassin instance
13:52.47Provitoantiphase, what RBL are you using?
13:53.01antiphasecbl.abuseat.org, pbl.spamhaus.org
13:54.43antiphaseI've been using them for a while, maybe another spamhaus list would be more appropriate these days. IT's not broke though, so I cba to fix it
13:54.46ChoHagBloody dell.
13:54.46Provitoantiphase, why not zen.spamhaus.org ?
13:55.07dick_turpinAll email is spam until its something you actually want to read, the title SPAM is such an easy one to apply "Groan another credit card offer" "Ooh Virgin Cards are offering 0% on purchases and 150% loyalty bonuses I'll have one of them"
13:55.13Provitoantiphase, for spamhaus zen is recommended
13:55.18ChoHagAbout 5 minutes in the post, just long enough for me to stop focussing while grub pops up for 5 seconds.
13:55.18antiphaseSpamhaus are still basically Nazis, so I wouldn't ever trust their most punitive list because I like receiving legitimate mail
13:57.08ChoHagShall I have pizza for lunch?
14:01.52Provitoantiphase, I've added cbl.abuseat.org back in again, I took it out but I'll see how it performs again
14:02.10morsingChoHag: Where's Sally?
14:02.12ProvitoI'm running zen.spamhaus.org and haven't had a problem with rejected mail, been using it for a while
14:07.41wethrinChoHag: Yes. Have pizza
14:07.51morsingBeer
14:08.52morsingibot MOS
14:10.11wethrinMetal Oxide Semiconductor
14:10.13wethrinObviously.
14:10.42morsingErmm... No - something to do with breasts. Anyone know? Google is vague
14:12.50bilarhi know a thing or two about breasts after 20'ish years of intense study.. never heard MOS used in conjunction with breasts, though
14:14.20morsingHmm... Further Googling suggests it's a type of person rather than specifically breast related although clearly something of a very sexual nature
14:14.33StephmwI side with bilarh here
14:15.32dick_turpinbilarh: Studying your own does not count :-P

16:49.44kraptvmoving away from md5 and to kerberos?
16:50.00kraptvor the other way around?
16:50.48ChoHagTo kerberos.
16:53.00z00daxkrb does work, once you have your phd in rocket science and krb integration sorted
16:53.23ChoHagActually I found the core stuff fairly simple.
16:53.25ChoHagI think.
16:53.51ChoHagNow I just have to implement it on a clean network and see if it's as easy as I thought it was.
16:55.01kraptvChoHag: are you doing this for NFSv4 integration, Active Directory integration, or ???
16:55.16ChoHagYes, yes and fun.
16:55.18kraptvjust the fact you hate md5 and the cleanliness of RFC2307?
