09:09.05CMooneyHi, Is there anyone here who can update the ChanServ message to mention the next meeting? http://lists.gllug.org.uk/pipermail/gllug/2010-February/082543.html
09:11.12gregjHow many MS employees does it take to
09:11.14gregjchange a lightbulb?  None, they just redefine dark as light.
09:21.58AndyMillarCMooney: there's probably limited point, does anyone even read them?
09:22.27CMooneyAndyMillar, Then why are they there in the first place if they are not intended to be read?
09:22.42CMooneySeems a useful passive way of making annoucements to me.
09:25.23AndyMillarwell, decent irc clients don't make it obvious, and I'm pretty sure this one hasn't changed in years
09:26.14ChoHagIt only displays when you join, which I never do.
09:26.24ChoHagSurely the topic is a more appropriate location?
09:26.45ChoHag(never, of course, means rarely)
09:27.10AndyMillarChoHag: and when you so join, it's probably displayed in your status window, not the channel window
09:27.17AndyMillarwhich you probably never check :p
09:27.22ChoHagIndeed.
09:36.44wethrinOh, topic

09:56.29ChoHagOops. Missed the daily team standup again.
09:56.37cpufreaklamer
09:56.59cpufreak:)
09:59.57AndyMillarChoHag: fail
10:00.10ChoHagI know.
10:00.12ChoHagI feel so bad.
10:01.12cpufreakchohag: what do you use for yahooim?
10:01.44cpufreakI'm on voda3g and which blocks it
10:01.48cpufreakor seems to.
10:01.51antiphaseYou only missed me accidentally inciting one of our southern hemisphere brethren, and people getting bollocked for not sending enough crappy email about releases
10:01.59cpufreakso a cli thingybob might be useful
10:02.10ChoHagcpufreak: bitlbee
10:02.12antiphaseYou can do Yapoo! over HTTP
10:02.18cpufreakantiphase: in theory
10:02.18ChoHagPretends to be an IRC server.
10:02.25cpufreakin practice the yahoo im client crashes
10:02.31ChoHagOr last time I checked gaim had a really awful cli client.
10:02.32cpufreakand I don't fancy downloading adium today
10:02.34antiphasewhich is what I would do in the instance that I had for example an HTTP proxy at the end of a VPN connection
10:02.38wethrinI use bitlbee too
10:03.27cpufreakI'm vpnd in, but the genuine all american yahoo osx client just locks up
10:03.36cpufreakand webmessanger.yahoo.com fails to work too
10:05.16AndyMillarbitlbee is win
10:05.23cpufreakis it win for yahoo though?
10:06.21wethrinIt supports yahoo
10:06.26AndyMillar10:06 <@root> Adds an account on the given server with the specified protocol, username and password to the account list. Supported protocols right now are: Jabber, MSN, OSCAR (AIM/ICQ) and Yahoo. For more information about adding an account, see help account
10:06.33cpufreakyou forget I'm a manager
10:06.40cpufreakthis cli stuff is alien these days :p
10:06.55AndyMillarshoots cpufreak
10:07.20wethrinuse mibbit.com to connect to a public bitlbee server
10:07.37AndyMillarjust because you're a manager doesn't mean you have to stop using vi to write all your documents
10:07.59cpufreakI'm connected up
10:08.07cpufreakon bittlebee
10:08.12cpufreakrunning my own server, of course
10:08.26AndyMillarin the same manner as just because I've stopped drinking doesn't mean I've got to stop going to the pub!
10:09.34cpufreaklol
10:09.48cpufreakoand just becaue you have stopped drinking you don't need to actually stop drinking
10:10.16AndyMillaryes it does :-)
10:11.07cpufreakno it doesn't
10:12.51AndyMillarit does if I want to lose another 5-10kg ;)
10:14.55wethrinjust drink a bit less
10:14.58wethrindon't give up fully!
10:21.38AndyMillarnah, at 220kcal a pint, I'm happy not drinking at all :)
10:21.50AndyMillarplus, once you've had one, another is such a good idea
10:25.21MohanIts a regular tar archive backup..
10:25.30Mohanoops :(
10:26.22wethrinbut it tastes so good...
10:26.55MohanAnyways, I have a silly question regarding file permissions.. I have 2 servers(a,b), I have created a user named testuser1 in servera and testuser1 in serverb but the user id differs between both servers. but when I backup a file owned by testuser1 in servera and put it in serverb how does it shows that the file is owned by testuser1 automatically eventhough the testuser1 id is different in serverb than in servera.
10:27.17MohanI was under the impression it identifies via userid as it shows the unknown userid no when a non existant userowned file is copied to a server. its a normal tar -cvzf backup..
10:28.49antiphaseTarchives contain alphanumeric usernames iirc
10:29.59antiphasewhich you may see if you `tar -ztvf` one
10:30.12ChoHagThey can contain either.
10:30.35ChoHag<PROTECTED>
10:30.35ChoHag<PROTECTED>
10:31.01antiphaseYou didn't RTFM did you? What's wrong with you, man!
10:31.49MohanI thought tar will do so only if told to do so.. didnt know its the default behaviour.
10:41.50ChoHagCan root write to a random processes stdin?
10:42.14ChoHageg. 'echo cd / > bash-process-occupying-the-fs-i-need-to-unmount'
10:42.47antiphase`kill bash-process-occupying-the-fs-i-need-to-unmount`
10:44.26ChoHagbah
11:28.08ChoHagIt still isn't lunchtime.
11:51.05AndyMillarChoHag: stop complaining and do some work ;)
