09:26.40z00daxhumm... tube strike coming up!
09:26.57z00daxso does anyone know how discordian / clive is doing ?
10:20.22bilarhboudiccas: sarcasm is the lowest form of humour :(
10:28.06mindbenderbilarh: reminds me of morsing
10:28.45bilarhmindbender: what me or sarcasm? :P
10:29.30mindbenderbilarh: boudiccas saying "well spotted every now and then"
10:29.38bilarhah
10:29.38mindbenderquotes..
10:29.56bilarhperhaps she's been talking to him on another channel and caught something :)
10:30.59mindbenderbilarh: though see the smiley faces in the end, it just feels good like very energetic like it's really fun for real even though it's not
10:31.31bilarhi'm guilty of that too ( :) )
10:31.41mindbenderI wonder if there's gonna be another set of smilies in the next century.
10:31.53bilarhand in boudiccasses defence, i thought it was at least a little bit tickling
10:32.17mindbenderbilarh: yeah, just she's done that to me a few times as well, so don't feel special.
10:32.43bilarhshe gets around :(
10:32.53mindbenderone love for everyone

12:54.01dick_turpinHi honey
12:54.13boudiccashoney? who's 'honey'???
12:54.35boudiccasits nice and warm out there, must be an indian summer :)
12:55.02dick_turpinPretty warm here too
12:55.40boudiccasand thers still loads of rug arts around, why arent they in school?
12:55.47boudiccas*rats
12:56.51bilarhboudiccas: are they drunk and voilent?
12:56.55bilarhviolent*
13:02.53ChoHagVery bizarre spam.
13:03.13ChoHagSupposed upgrade to squirrelmail links to a hippy's website.
13:07.46antiphaseDoes anyone still use Squirrelmail?
13:08.01bilarhi do
13:08.01ChoHagI do.
13:08.07antiphaseOld skool
13:08.10ChoHagIt was apt-got some years ago and left alone.
13:08.27bilarhwhat else should we use?
13:08.33ChoHagGoogle.
13:08.57antiphaseRoundcube
13:08.59bilarhwhy the hell would i want to use that when i've got my own domain to handle mails to/from?
13:09.19bilarhoh very snazzy
13:09.22ChoHagI once tried to debug something in roundcube.
13:09.24ChoHagIt was unpleasant.
13:10.18ChoHagNot that I'm under any illusions that squirrelmail is going to be any better.
13:10.51antiphaseI'd expect it all to be spaghetti PHP
13:11.05ChoHagIs there another type?
13:13.44bilarhi want a solution for hooking an iphone up to my email server, which does't require me to open up imap to the world
13:13.58bilarhand/or use authenticated smtp for sending
13:14.05antiphaseI do both and it works fine
13:14.07ChoHagWhy not just open imap to the world with authenticated smtp?
13:14.23bilarhbecause i don't want to open imap to the world
13:14.31antiphaseIMAPoS + SMTPAoS
13:14.55ChoHagBut why?
13:15.09ChoHagIs there any difference between opening up IMAP and opening up IMAP via HTTP?
13:15.15ChoHag(any practical difference)
13:15.19bilarhand i use sendmail which is a royal pain in the arse to get working with authetnicated relaying
13:15.31antiphaseFail alert
13:15.34ChoHagPeople use sendmail?
13:15.39antiphaseFuck sendmail in its crusty 30 year old ass
13:15.42ChoHagI thought I was old fashioned with squirrelmail...
13:15.47antiphaseDitch that zero and get yourself an Exim
13:15.56bilarhmeh, too much work
13:16.28antiphaseI reckon you could set up a smarthost with TLS or SSL and auth in about 20 lines of config
13:16.29bilarhand i like dovecot, but i dont' trust it enough to open it up
13:16.41antiphasewonders what you base trust on
13:16.46ChoHagAnyway, more useful question: Can I set a variable in a makefile to a list of targets, each of which depends on a target of a name which can be derived from the first?
13:16.56antiphaseI've had Exim and Dovecot open to the world for two and a half years
13:16.58ChoHageg. TARGETS = foo bar baz
13:17.10ChoHag$(TARGETS): stamp-$TARGET
13:17.20bilarhantiphase: i don't know, i'm just old skool like you say...
13:17.30bilarhperhaps it's time to get to the 21st century
13:17.41antiphaseYou're making decisions based on something you don't know, which is invariable the wrong choice :P
13:18.26bilarhi don't want to piss about with email, it's so mindnumbingly boring
13:54.08boudiccasbilarh, nope, thank goodness
13:54.39*** part/#gllug dick_turpin (~dick_turp@host217-34-163-30.in-addr.btopenworld.com)
13:59.01bilarhboudiccas: probalby foreign language students then :P
14:22.01boudiccasno theyre all seemingly of primary school age, not old enough to be foreign language school students
14:22.42boudiccashaven tthey got schools to go to? theycant /all/  be playing truant surely??
14:24.46bilarhi thought school wasn't on until monday?
14:25.26boudiccascould be, i dont know, but that might answer why theyre all about still

14:45.17mindbenderi love mta rant
14:45.58mindbenderthere's only one mta i hate which is qmail and that's the mta i run on my personal server
14:47.41DiscordianUKsendmail is the only one
14:49.20mindbenderi like sendmail
14:49.28mindbenderhave a tendency to like postfix afterall as well
14:51.15DiscordianUKsendmail is what I use, if I didn't I'd also choose postfix
14:53.32mindbendersendmail was a PITA like 5-7 years ago when it wasn't supporting pop before smtp
14:53.51mindbenderpatching it was a pain

15:20.30halipostfix ftw
15:23.28antiphasePostfix is vaguely acceptable if you're a weenie, but otherwise you have to use Exim. Everything else is a massive ballache
15:23.30*** join/#gllug andrewblack (~andrew@vm.black1.org.uk)
15:24.35mindbenderantiphase: at what point postfix becomes unacceptable? filters?
15:25.34antiphaseI think its major "advantage" is always cited as its separation of concerns, and if that's all it has going for it, I'm not convinced. I think it's easier to configure as well, but you pay for that with limited flexibility
15:26.36antiphaseExim filters are all epic as well of course
15:39.27AndyMillarpostfix is awesome..
15:39.42AndyMillar... for a single domain, and relatively simple configuration
15:39.53AndyMillarthe minute you want to do anything exciting with it, the config becomes impossible
15:39.55haliperlmonkies usually go for exim
15:40.04halii find postfix enough for the basic things we do
15:40.05AndyMillarwheras exim's config allos you to *do* *stuff*
15:40.50AndyMillarhali: for simple setups, postfix makes sense
