01:23.01gr0undhogHi peoples
01:23.51ArmandHello!
01:24.24gr0undhogArmand: Hi, amazing how many are awake!
01:24.39ArmandNo idea.. I just got home from work
01:25.19gr0undhogBlimey - I'm long retired, but these hours would cost my old bosses a fortune ...
01:25.38ArmandWell, I just started Monday..
01:26.00ArmandI'm working customer support an a webhost/server provider.
01:26.03Armand*at
01:26.50gr0undhogOh - good luck in your endeavours! I've only come in as I wondered about using BitTorrent
01:27.09gr0undhogand needed a few opinions on it.
01:27.24ArmandI can't really say much.. I only use it a bit on Win7.
01:28.20gr0undhogArmand: the reason for my interest is a wish to experiment with Knoppix, or to learn from it!
01:28.45ArmandNew to Linux-based OSs ?
01:29.30gr0undhogBlimey no, I've been a Linux nut since Suse 10.1. I'm using Mint 14 now, and love it.
01:30.01ArmandThe guys at work tried to push me to Mint.. but, I'll stick with Debian. ^_^
01:30.25ArmandNow.. I've not touched Knoppix is a VERY long time..
01:30.56ArmandBut, if it's for the sake of testing..  I'd always say always try a Live version or use a VM first.
01:31.19gr0undhogArmand: you do just that. I've gone back to Debian on many a day, but for a soon-to-be 79 old fart I still love experimenting!
01:31.48ArmandCan't beat tinkerererering. :D
01:32.01gr0undhogArmand: which accounts for the slowness in my responses
01:32.07ArmandQuite alright.
01:32.29ArmandI used to have a webserver running Fedora.. that was fun. :P
01:33.16gr0undhogas my hands are a tad arthritic ... but now tyou mention it, I think I might also try out this VM thing, of which I know nothing.
01:33.50ArmandSomething more to learn.. ;)
01:34.27gr0undhogI tried Fedora for time, not pleasing. But yup, the learning's great.
01:35.52ArmandSadly, the updates often break other things.. and Fedora is constantly being updated. :/
01:36.29ArmandThankfully, Debian stable is pretty good. :)
01:38.14gr0undhogMy current learning curve/hillock is which channel to use - I chose IRC because it was the only one I could recall using in the past! I must say, however, that I've learned more from using Debian than any of the others.
01:40.16gr0undhogI was using the provided channel under Mint and Xchat, but I seemed to have an argument with NickServe and reached for the Pidgin ...
01:41.26ArmandIRC is always great for help.. I love Freenode. :)
01:42.23gr0undhogArmand: I have some housekeeping stuff to do so I'll leave you in peace for a while, but thank you!
01:42.47ArmandI'll be off to bed soon anyways.. long day. :/

12:39.15morsinghighbury: Where have you been?
12:40.09highburyoff IRC :-(
12:40.18highburyHi chaps!
12:40.27highburyHow's GLLUG been?
12:40.56morsingDead?
12:41.20highburynow works for Xyratex a Lustre OEM
12:41.37z00daxwatchout! BigData!
12:41.48highburyyip
12:42.57highburyThough Lustre is pretty specialist, there are those who want to see whether it can broaden out
12:50.39highburyI've finally got my Ubuntu 12.10 setup working again, I had been using the NVidia driver but it died taking my GUI away, I felt lost. Its not easy or obvious how to fix X nowadays. But anyway now its working, at least.
12:55.17highburyits pretty sad having to abandon my dual boot setup, and reverting back to running Ubuntu via Virtualbox on Windows 7 as Linux doesn't support my laptops default driver
