10:07.44migmeneseshello there, for some reason a good amount of *.gif and *.jpeg got deleted or corrupted on a sd-card/folder, i recover those file using photorec and testdisk...but even if the files/pictures still have their original sizes and details I cant open any of those files/pictures it says it isn't a gif o jpeg ...any suggestions
10:20.49vagarwalmigmeneses: most probably they are corrupt. your safest bet is to try to backup the sd card using dd and try some other recovery tool on that image

14:56.04migmenesesChoHag, how do you do that ?
14:57.54ChoHagWell that depends on what kind of backup you made.
15:12.35migmenesesChoHag, well I tried before tesdisk and photorec....I recover all the files, But I cant see them at all, when I am trying to open them or convert them back to gif or other, it says it isnt a gif/jpeg file
15:12.50migmenesesI will try dd plus another software
15:14.56ChoHagNext time, back up your data. Especially that which is stored on an unreliable medium.
15:15.00ChoHagThen all you will need is cp.
15:21.23yaMattChoHag, well done for telling migmeneses the least useful thing possible
15:22.01migmenesesChoHag, :)
15:23.37yaMattI don't know if dd will make the situation any better, at the end of the day running the tools on a copy of the disk or the disk itself is pretty much the same thing
15:24.02yaMattmigmeneses, if you're used that SD card for other images before it will attempt to recover those too
15:25.02yaMattbut I expect those tools are built for spinning metal, and SD cards, like SSDs write the data all over the disk, so doing a recovery will take a lot more work
15:25.22wethrinphotorec/testdisk is designed for SD/CF cards
15:25.55yaMattorly?
15:27.33yaMattstill, didn't help migmeneses :)
15:29.56migmenesesok, when I used photorec I got all the deleted pictures from the last few years, I know that
17:09.25morsingmsg wethrin ping
18:08.40vagarwalmy 2p to atleast dump the image as that sd card might die soon
20:39.07yaMattthat's true
