22:51.41MatthewWilkesAnyone know of a place to get very cheap internal flights in the usa?
22:55.48SirpMatthewWilkes: you mean domestic flights? I think most websites are fairly competitive. They tend to get their data from the same place anyhow.
22:56.38Sirpyou can occasionally get a good deal by going to an airline's site, or simplly wanting to book the right flight at the right time; it's all very hit-or-miss though
23:01.18MatthewWilkeshumm
23:01.19MatthewWilkesok
23:01.43MatthewWilkesI'm expecting things to be a lot cheaper than they are, it seems ;)
23:03.43scorche|shMatthewWilkes: i usually will use itasoftware and farecast to search, between those 2 pick one, then go to the airline's site to book
23:05.20MatthewWilkesI've found some ok prices at statravel UK for the international legs, but I'm not willing to give up on a bargin
23:06.22SirpMatthewWilkes: it is good to know some basic rules that are commonly used by airlines in the markets you're interested in.  For instance, 14 day advanced purchase is a common rule, as are rules involving staying over weekends, and rules involving connections.
23:06.33scorche|shis happy with his process and he flies quite a bit
23:07.23MatthewWilkesSirp: Indeed, this is many months in advance though ;)
23:08.04MatthewWilkesI've found good deals before, like LON<->LAX for £299
23:08.09Sirpwell, prices can also drop later on...
23:08.58MatthewWilkesindeed
23:09.10scorche|shMatthewWilkes: wow...nice price
23:09.17MatthewWilkesalso, exchange rates are a bitch right now
23:09.23Sirpright. It's all very chancey. Airlines need to maintain a certain average price to make flying profitable at all, but ultimately would make more money charging $20 for a ticket than letting a seat go empty. Leading to them trying hard to charge very variable prices, leading to a very convoluted pricing system. :)
23:10.11Sirpworked as a software engineer at Sabre for a number of years, programming these kinds of things....
