17:57.50lite_yagamiHey everyone!
17:58.10lite_yagamiI'm looking for a way to get started on choosing an organization and learning how to contribute.
17:58.50lite_yagamiI had earlier narrowed down to Open Source Robotics Foundation, but when I went to theyr GitHub I was unable to understand anything.
17:59.03lite_yagamiCould someone guide me on how to tackle my problem?
18:06.02PulkoMandyhi, maybe you should contact them and ask for clarifications?
18:07.42jn__diving straight into the code is usually difficult
18:08.03jn__maybe some of the articles in there help: http://wiki.ros.org/ROS/StartGuide
18:09.32PulkoMandyyes, and their ideas list from last year should be a good introduction to what they need as well: https://github.com/osrf/osrf_wiki/wiki/GSoC
18:10.02PulkoMandy(the projects for 2020 may be different but it gives a general idea of the scale and type of projects)
18:12.44lite_yagamiThank you so much!
18:13.24lite_yagamiOne question I had, do the organizations list the project ideas or do we have to think of ideas and submit them in our proposal?
18:14.33carolsprimarily the organization suggest projects they think would be suitable for gsoc students, but most usually include an option for a student who believes they have an excellent idea that's not on the list to submit their own.
18:15.04PulkoMandyalso, the ideas in the ideas list are usually a paragraph or two, but you have to submit a proposal that will probably be a few pages or so
18:15.25PulkoMandyso there is some research to do to get into more details on your plans for making the idea a reality
18:15.57lite_yagamiThanks a lot everyone!

21:19.02r0bbycarols: oh hi
21:19.40r0bbyOne thing you should mention is that projects proposed by students are held to a much higher standard -- every year I get some rather sad and/or hilarious proposals.
21:20.01r0bbyI've seen people submit school project proposals without even bothering to change a thing...why they think this will work is beyond me
21:20.52r0bbyAs Org admin, i always go through them and remove these from view as spam proposals and will not ever select them.
