12:08.59ha3pgAnybody online I could ask for general help charging an IPAQ 3835?
12:14.17mzb_d800plug it in? ;)
12:16.01ha3pgGood hint ;) Unfortunately it was not enough. Read on.
12:17.29ha3pgThis IPAQ rested in a box and was untouched for 1-2 years, so the battery gone flat. First I thought the battery is bad so I bought a new one.
12:18.42ha3pgBut I can not charge it. I replaced the original, no problem, the IPAQ works fine if on PSU but just does not charge. I left on charger for all night then resetted both soft and hard no avail.
12:19.34ha3pgThe charge LED does not go on btw. Any hint how to force the beast to start charging?
12:24.22*** join/#handhelds rmoravcik (n=rmoravci@ip-89-102-255-171.karneval.cz)
12:35.13Curiousha3pg: any idea if the battery is connected the same way as the 3870? Because i am trying to remove mine, but cant remove the yellow wires. Sorry about not being able to help you with your problem but i am stuck myself. ^^'
12:38.54ha3pgCurious: Most probably these have the same type of connectors. Just pull the connector at the end of the yellow wires carefully toward you, first on one side then the other.
12:40.12ha3pgCurious: Do not attempt to pull the connector by the wires! You can remove any or both of the connectors, I mean either on the battery end or at the board. Or both of them.
12:46.44ha3pgCurious: Go and fetch this guide: http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/guides/Compaq%20iPAQ%20Battery%20Replacement%20Guide%203800%20-%203900.pdf

12:55.07ha3pgCurious: Did you read my advices and the link for the battery replacing guide?
12:55.33CuriousNo, could you plase send it again?
12:55.37Curious*please
12:56.23ha3pgCurious: OK, here goes again repeated:
12:56.34ha3pgCurious: Most probably these have the same type of connectors. Just pull the connector at the end of the yellow wires carefully toward you, first on one side then the other.

12:59.24CuriousExcept i cant. Its rock solid.
13:00.02CuriousIt looks exactly as on the pictures, i just cant remove the connector xD
13:01.34ha3pgCurious: You will have to use some force. Use an appropriate plastic tool to gently pry first one end then the other by the small tabs.
13:02.07Curiousk... here goes.
13:02.44ha3pgOr even a small flat head screwdriver but take care not shorting anything.
13:03.31ha3pgTry at the battery end of the cable first, there are no sensitive parts around just the jacket of the battery.
13:04.44Curious*fails dramatically*. I just can't get it between the connector bits and the cable bits so to speak. I see what i am supposed to do, i just, well, fail at doing it *tries to find something smaller*
13:05.18ha3pgOr just bring it over to me and I will remove it for free :)
13:06.02CuriousUnless you live in sweden, i cant ;D.
13:06.26CuriousHmm.. i know what i will do.. the ultimate solution...
13:06.35ha3pgOh, not far away, I'm in Hungary :)
13:06.47CuriousI'll wait until mom gets home. She's good at this stuff ;P
13:08.47ha3pgA flat head screwdriver at the battery end will do it. I seem to remember my nails were not strong enough so I also used a screwdriver.
13:09.07CuriousI mean, installing linux over an serial cable, yes. Compiling kernels, changing components, yes. But fiddly electronics and those wierd hp cases, thats when i call mom. :P
13:10.15CuriousYes, but i've tried that in what seems like every possible seam in the plastics, mergh. Be back later. Thanks a lot for the help :)
13:10.48ha3pgInteresting your mom is so good at that.
13:11.03ha3pgOK, good luck. cul

13:54.41pyronikcan anyone help me get this ipaq sharing internet with my windows box?
13:55.55mzb_d800it probably won't happen if you're expecting to work over usbnet
13:56.35pyronikthere is a guide for it on the handhelds site, I just can't get the driver to work
13:57.24mzb_d800^^
13:57.40mzb_d800*probably won't happen*
13:58.06pyronikim not trying to be argumentative, but why would they write a guide for that then?
13:59.01mzb_d800because it used to work ... my understanding is that many things changed (including M$'s goal posts)
13:59.54pyroniki read that, the "Old (Bahia) driver" stoped working
13:59.58pyronikthen they had a new one up
14:02.47pyronikim sorry i can't read
14:02.58pyronik(iPAQ h39xx / h5xxx only)
14:03.10pyroniktime to pony up for a wifi CF
14:04.00mzb_d800got bluetooth?
14:04.22pyroniki have the adapter for my computer, but the 3600 doesn't have internal bluetooth
14:04.28mzb_d800ok
14:04.49pyronikok heres my other problem then
14:04.56pyronikif i get the wifi thing
14:04.57mzb_d800you *might* have success with vmplayer
14:05.17pyronikwill the drivers i have on the ipaq support it outright
14:05.23pyronikcause i dont have a way to get more drivers on
14:05.26mzb_d800depends on what you get
14:07.06mzb_d800eg. I'm keen on the Sandisk Connect+ cards ... but they don't suit most people because you have to build your own kernel (not a trivial task for a handheld)
14:07.37pyronikhaha yeah about that
14:07.43mzb_d800most of the prism-based cards should work
14:08.03mzb_d800but check in the wiki, and the mailing lists for comments about particular models
14:08.13pyroniksounds good
14:08.21pyronikand vmplayer is just a linux emulator?
14:08.31mzb_d800no
14:08.41mzb_d800vmplayer works on windows and linux
14:09.18mzb_d800I though that there might be a possibility that you could pass the usb device through to a vmplayer session running linux
14:09.28mzb_d800(ie: you'd have to be desperate;))
14:09.41pyronikhaha
14:10.01pyronikill buy the wifi since I was going to eventually when I got this thing working
14:10.36mzb_d800just do your research first
14:10.46pyronikyeah ive been doing a lot of that ha
14:10.53pyronikfor the better part of a week
14:11.01pyronikthank you
14:11.34mzb_d800np
14:11.38mzb_d800start here:
14:11.41mzb_d800http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/IpaqHardwareCompatibility_2fWirelessLAN
14:11.47mzb_d800but remember that it's old info
14:11.58mzb_d800mailing lists are probably a better idea
14:12.11mzb_d800marc archives are searchable (for eg)
14:14.30mzb_d800(but don't seem to have all the ports)
14:14.58mzb_d800maybe: http://osdir.com/ml
14:17.01mzb_d800don't forget that you will be running an old 2.4 kernel ... so getting an old CF model is probably a good bet
14:17.10mzb_d800(ie. old .11b)

14:18.40pyronikcause i just installed this yesterday ha
14:20.02mzb_d800:) ... old as in 2.4 ... and probably not maintained ... on an old machine
14:21.43pyroniki see im looking through the marc now, lots of stuff
15:12.22CuriousWohoo, i did it. Realized i was working on the wrong thing entirely.
