10:48.31nix-cyrushi. is in archlinux any pkgbuild for harmattan architecture for qt-creator? or the best way just download and install binary package from qt site?

10:54.26djszapinix-cyrus: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49854 -> I see only this one
10:54.36djszapiaur is your friend on Archlinux ;-)
10:57.28nix-cyrusdjszapi: yeah) I found this package too.. but just don't sure.. is if for Maemo6 (Nokia) or for real Meego (Intel)
10:58.10djszapino real clue, but what is wrong about doing it "cleanly" ?
10:58.25ZogG_laptopcleanly
10:58.27ZogG_laptop?
10:58.48djszapiyes, from the official instructions, Nokia.
10:59.02ZogG_laptopyou mean from site
10:59.17djszapiyes, of course.
10:59.50nix-cyrusok. thnx.
10:59.55ZogG_laptopthats what i said him too
11:01.04djszapinix-cyrus: you are welcome for making a proper AUR package ;)
11:02.14nix-cyrusdjszapi: good idea) but I need something like "Installation guide" for it
11:02.27ZogG_laptopdjszapi: i talked to qt maintainers of gentoo, there are certain parts they couldn't make ebuild for (gentoo) so i'm not sure if it plossible
11:02.48ZogG_laptopnix-cyrus: there is no installation guide - it's blob installer
11:02.59djszapiZogG_laptop: ebuild is the worst hack ever for packaging.

11:04.56djszapi(at least it was a nightmare 5-6 years ago)
11:06.43Sputdjszapi: compared to arch's bash script hackery, it's elegant, advanced and powerful.
11:07.33djszapiSput: took me 5 minutes to update vim on arch without knowledge, and could never manage it with ebuild in 2-3 days.
11:07.40ZogG_laptopdjszapi: i find it the best thing as it's flexible and it's mostly for opensource
11:07.42djszapi(but my last sentence on the topic, because it is off)
11:08.11ZogG_laptopdjszapi: if you couldn't get it - it was mostly not ebuild problems =D

11:09.05Sputdjszapi: uh, cp vim-7.3.393.ebuild vim-7.3.409.ebuild
11:09.13Sputis all it takes to update the package :P
11:09.16faenilmorning people :)
11:09.39djszapiSput ideally, but ask the gentoo developer who tried to help, and he had not ideas either.
11:09.44SputO_o
11:09.56ZogG_laptopSput: even vim-9999 from git would be easy to do from git/svn or what ever, it's automagical
11:10.05SputI blame that on a communication failure, not on the ebuild format
11:10.16ZogG_laptopagreed
11:10.26ZogG_laptopas total noob i even managed to make ebuild
11:10.30Sputand really, complaining about ebuild when coming from arch sounds completely weird :)
11:10.34djszapiSput communication failure on how to run a cp ? :D
11:10.37djszapiAre you serious ? :D
11:11.08ZogG_laptopdjszapi: its not only copy, you need to have your local portage first of all set up properly
11:11.14djszapiimo I even asked on iirc, and nobody had ideas
11:11.19Sputdjszapi: I would assume that this developer didn't get what you want, or the other way round, since obviously it can't be impossible to easily update vim
11:11.24ZogG_laptopand than you need to ebuild *.ebuild digest
11:11.26djszapiso nobody can communicate them on their channel ? :D
11:11.27ZogG_laptopand than install
11:11.59djszapiSput: it is not just about vim, but yes the developers on irc had no ideas either
11:12.13SputI'm just checking the diffs between the ebuilds for the various vim versions, and it's tiny to zero.
11:12.42djszapimaybe they fixed the issues with the creepy system that was like that 6 years ago
11:12.43ZogG_laptopdjszapi: almost everything i want to do on gentoo was already done and explained in the internet - so google would give you step by  step explaination and ebuild itself =0
11:12.48Sputgenerally Gentoo devs know how to bump package versions, otherwise we wouldn't be bleeding edge :P
11:13.07djszapiZogG_laptop: so why don't you provide a qtcreator package in 2 mins, mmmh ?
11:13.15Sputwe have a qtcreator package
11:13.17ZogG_laptopdjszapi: coz it's blob
11:13.21djszapiSput gentoo was not really bleeding edge at all
11:13.31ZogG_laptopand yes they have, it just lack of certain parts
11:13.33djszapiSput especially after almost the whole team left them
11:13.42Sputdjszapi: obviously, you're talking about a different Gentoo then.
11:13.47djszapiall the old developers, mostly back then
11:13.47ZogG_laptoplol
11:14.12Sputbecause the Gentoo I was using for the past 12 years was always pretty much bleeding edge, always had competent developers, and was always able to bump packages.
11:14.26ZogG_laptopdjszapi: i think you don't know what you are talking, i'm on gentoo for about 6 years
11:14.31djszapiso bleeding edge I got answers for serious bugs after 1-2 years :D
11:14.50SputZogG_laptop: I agree. this doesn't match reality at all
11:14.52djszapiZogG_laptop: I used it for at least 6 years
11:14.57djszapiand I stopped it 4 years ago
11:15.12Sputwe do 0day releases for KDE and Qt, for example
11:15.13ZogG_laptopdjszapi: i moved to funtoo now =)
11:15.29djszapiI left gentoo not much after the core team left
11:15.35djszapibecause it got screwed up then
11:15.37Sputwhich core team left
11:15.45Sputthere was never any core team leaving
11:15.55ZogG_laptopmayeb he means drobbin?
11:15.58Sputdrobbins was kicked out, that was about all, and it didn't hurt Gentoo
11:16.02djszapiof course there was
11:16.13djszapimany gentoo developers left because of the arrogance of the new developers.
11:16.17Sputlol
11:16.22Sputreally, must be a different Gentoo
11:16.27djszapiit seems you are not really a long gentoo community watcher :)
11:16.37Sputthe one in your universe is probably also dying, right?
11:16.37ZogG_laptopSput: actually never got that, i think his visionary is what made Gentoo like it is (actually he did it)
11:17.13ZogG_laptopSput: djszapi right, some maintainers and stuff left, but hardly core team
11:17.28Sputdjszapi: I am a Gentoo user for 11 years now, I have helped with development for at least 4 years, and been involved in community longer than that
11:17.28djszapi/many/ core members
11:17.35ZogG_laptopand people leave and come in any distro - it's normal
11:17.42djszapihahahahaha
11:17.50Sputand clearly, the Gentoo you describe never existed
11:18.18djszapiSput so you are saying I am lying and I was able to update my vim package ?
11:18.19Sputsince I am almost sober, it can't be my reality that's broken :P
11:18.26djszapiafter 2-3 days hard try ?
11:18.37ZogG_laptopdjszapi: you did it wrong
11:18.42Sputyou could describe what kind of "2-3 days hard try" you did
11:18.45Sputand what the error was
11:18.46djszapiit can be done wrong for 2-3 days ?
11:18.53djszapiI am sorry, but I am not interested in an error-prone thingie
11:18.54ZogG_laptopdjszapi: yes
11:19.05SputI still assume that there is some misunderstanding somewhere
11:19.10djszapisuch an error prone which can be made wrong for 2-3 days, a simple update.
11:19.14Sputlol
11:19.17djszapieven for developers.
11:19.18Sputand that's coming from an arch user?
11:19.30Sputwhere you have to frickin edit bash scripts to adapt packages?
11:19.35Sputnot even USE flags?
11:19.37djszapiSput: of course I do not remember by heart what happened 8 years ago
11:19.56Sputdjszapi: and yet you base your disgust of a whole distro on that
11:19.59ZogG_laptopi tried arch - gentoo is just logical - that's why i still use it, all the arch, ubuntu and other distros are mess
11:20.11djszapiSput wrong interpretation
11:20.28djszapimany people said ebuild is horrible (including me)
11:20.37Sputdon't blame the ebuild format on an issue you had 8 years ago and can't even remember :)
11:20.44djszapiand after the fluctuation, many gentoo dev came to arch.
11:20.53ZogG_laptopWHO?
11:21.02Sputdon't get me wrong, I have tried arch and I like some of its concepts, even the community
11:21.09ZogG_laptopi know people migrating, but not devs
11:21.15Sputbut it's in no way more elegant, easier to use or has better packaging than Gentoo
11:21.32djszapiSput I got bugreport replies for serious bugs in 1-2 year
11:21.35djszapis
11:21.40djszapiand still no asnweres for some.
11:21.46ZogG_laptopdjszapi: link me to them
11:21.49djszapiis this the bleeding edge thingie ? :)
11:21.56Sputthese pkgbuilds are a weak emulation of ebuilds, there are no USE flags, you have to frickin manually edit a pkgbuild if you want to install a package not in default configuration
11:22.07Sputhow is that easier or more elegant than ebuilds and USE flags?
11:22.27djszapiI do not care about use flags.
11:22.34djszapiit makes my life actually a bit harder
11:22.45djszapiyou know, KISS, I just install the stuff, or build and done
11:22.51Sputuse ubuntu then :P
11:22.54djszapiI do not care about space nowadays, if I can truncate 10 MB out.
11:23.01ZogG_laptopuse windows than
11:23.02Sputit never worked like that on arch either
11:23.15djszapiSput buntu is not up to date
11:23.16Sputboth Gentoo and Arch pretty much target the same users
11:23.28djszapiand there is no real reason for changing a distribution you have been using for many years, if it works for you.
11:23.35ZogG_laptopdjszapi: ubuntu is up2date
11:23.43ZogG_laptopjust use right ppa's
11:23.44djszapihahahahaha
11:23.52ZogG_laptopas well a lot of stuff nowdays are made for ubuntu
11:23.56Sputof course not. I'm not asking you to switch, I'm asking you to stop unfounded criticism on the distro I have chosen
11:24.07SputZogG_laptop: it's not uptodate, really
11:24.14SputI have to use it at work :P
11:24.26Sputit's much better than debian though
11:24.36Sputwhen it comes to uptodateness
11:24.38djszapiSput: you are saying I cannot have an opinion about things ? I do not need the slavery back :p
11:24.48ZogG_laptopSput: depends on what you use, i know a lot of devs and shinny program today aimed to ubuntu first of all
11:25.06djszapiif I can do a vim update wrong for 2-3 days, and developers do not need either how to fix.
11:25.12djszapiI am sorry, but I cannot say positive things.
11:25.23ZogG_laptopSput: djszapi as well installing from git repos and halfready things - is not up2date as well imho
11:26.03ZogG_laptopdjszapi: i don't believe it was actuall developer and i think yu just can't say you was wrong, that's my opinion
11:26.13Sputdjszapi: well, since you seem to base your whole opinion on an incident that happened 8 years ago and that noone can remember, I'm not taking it too seriously, and just state my own opinion that the ebuild/portage packaging is the most adanced, most flexible and easiest since sliced bread.
11:26.22djszapiZogG_laptop: thanks for saying I am now lying.
11:27.30djszapiSput: you are seriously saying I recall every accident off-hand happened 8-10 years ago, I mean really ? :D
11:27.38Sputthat said, I still would have an Arch installation somewhere if it didn't commit suicide on upgrade
11:27.51djszapibut of course all I did what I would do on arch: bump the version
11:28.02djszapiandno link changed, nothing, but got confusing portage thingie
11:28.03ZogG_laptopSput: i use unstable and there few things i use that are hard mask, but still i do not update kernel everyday, coz i don't see any point, as well as software, i update once in a week mostly, the important thing for me is to update if certain\important things to me were fixed
11:28.26djszapiSput: same with portage emerge world really
11:28.32djszapisomething always blew up :)
11:28.38Sputdjszapi: no, but I am saying if something happened to you that long ago (it started with "4 years ago" and is now "8-10 years ago" btw), then maybe it's about time to just forget about it and check the current situation before making a fool out of yourself for publishing unfounded criticizm
11:29.22djszapiI do not need this tone sorry, so I am leaving.
11:29.26SputI'm not judging the quality of opensuse or debian on the version from 2001 either.
11:29.46djszapiSput: if you read back I wrote this: 13:04 < djszapi> (at least it was a nightmare 5-6 years ago)
11:30.03ZogG_laptopas far as i know i had portage updates problems - till i understood it was me doing wrong
11:30.09djszapiand honestly, the whole ebuild stuff read very hard for me.
11:30.34ZogG_laptopas well as i tried arch and i know there was pacman update that ruined the installation at all
11:30.35djszapiZogG_laptop: what can you do wrong with an update command, seriously ? :)
11:30.35SputZogG_laptop: it had update problems (muchly improved by now), but less than, say, apt
11:30.46Sputbut didn't we talk about bumping a package version?
11:30.48djszapiarch does not use apt.
11:30.49ZogG_laptopdjszapi: depends and flags
11:30.50Sputnow it's about upgrading the system?
11:31.08Sputsee, that's what I meant earlier with "misunderstanding", it's not always easy to understand what's meant :)
11:31.26djszapiSput: you are the only one now misunderstanding
11:31.29SputI know that arch doesn't use apt :)
11:31.34djszapiyou were confusing distro upgrade into the topic with suiciding
11:31.42djszapiI just reacted for your bypass, it is basically the same on gentoo
11:31.46djszapiat least it was many many years ago
11:31.48Sputah.
11:31.54ZogG_laptopdjszapi: you was talking about one package only at first =)
11:32.03djszapidefinitely.
11:32.07Sputwell yeah, many many years ago you could kill a Gentoo on upgrade too. much harder nowadays
11:32.10djszapibut as I said, it is not just a vim issue
11:32.12Sputand still easy with apt
11:32.18djszapiwas no way in the hell, the ebuild read nicely.
11:32.36Sputand iDunno what happened to my Arch installation, it followed the instructions and it failed and was not recoverable
11:32.37djszapiSput: I have never said it is like that nowadays
11:32.42Arkenoia guy on local forum (maemos.ru) sold everything nokia gave him for last years -- 2*n900, e7, n9 and n950, for ~$2K total. Too bad I did not monitor it frequently enough :-(
11:32.43djszapi(since I do not use it)
11:32.47Sput*I followed
11:32.58Sputwhich is sad, because I wanted to give my parents Arch boxen
11:33.12SputI really like that distro, but I can't handle it :)
11:33.41djszapiSput: I will look for the mailing list thread about the gentoo devs leaving.
11:33.47Sputsure
11:33.53djszapiI need to poke my friend how was a gentoo developer and he also left.
11:33.56Sputwe have devs leaving all the time, and getting new ones all the time
11:34.07djszapiit is not the usual stuff
11:34.09Sputthat's why we're proudly dying since 2001.
11:34.19djszapiold developers got really pissed off about the newcoming and arrogant developers
11:34.36Sputthere was some incident with the original KDE maintainers
11:34.46Sputand there was the drobbins affair
11:34.49djszapithat is yet another interesting thing, gentoo lists 1000+ developers, and arch has like 30 :p
11:34.52Sputother than that, I can't remember anything
11:34.57Sputwe have around 250 developers
11:35.11SputI would assume that Gentoo is going to have the largest team at FOSDEM again
11:35.26Sputwe were like 35-40 people at last year's FOSDEM, no other distro even came close
11:35.31djszapiI will not wear the "Gentoo ftl" T-Shirt then :D
11:35.38Sputhehehe
11:35.41ZogG_laptopArkenoi: why would he do it?
11:36.00Sputanyway, shower, then train.
11:36.11ZogG_laptopSput: what you say about funtoo?
11:36.17djszapido not get me wrong, I loved gentoo as a user
11:36.42djszapiI just was not able to package so efficiently as on arch, and after the big leave, the quality decrease of the distribution was realizable.
11:37.47nix-cyrusevery distrs are fine guys)
11:39.58ArkenoiZogG_laptop, no idea, but i'd happily buy all his stuff
11:40.44Arkenoihaving a spare n950 to get rid of constant fear of breaking or losing one would be nice :-)
11:41.46RST38hArkenoi <-- voicing my fears exactly
11:42.07ZogG_laptopi have no n950 at all
11:47.31SputZogG_laptop: not sure. I was using the funtoo stages for a while, but nowadays Gentoo produces usable and uptodate stage3s by themselves
11:47.55SputI haven't really followed much, other than drobbins becoming a Gentoo dev again a couple years ago, and getting kicked out again afaik
11:48.36djszapialso, cannot really afford gentoo at the company.
11:48.43djszapiand I can afford arch.
11:48.46Sputbut the difference between gentoo and funtoo is rather small anyway
11:48.56Sputdjszapi: yeah, well, of course :)
11:49.02SputI don't think we could switch Nokia to Gentoo either
11:49.11Sputso I'll have to cope with kubuntu
11:49.13djszapiwell, I am allowed to do that
11:49.21djszapibut I would not personally do...
11:49.40ZogG_laptopSput: nokians?
11:49.47SputZogG_laptop: yes?
11:49.50djszapino way to update packages, and then why gentoo ?
11:49.59ZogG_laptopSput: set them gentoo + awesome wm =)
11:50.04djszapiand I like using the same os at home and work, really, so comfy... :D

11:50.32ZogG_laptopi use xubuntu at work
11:50.34SputZogG_laptop: I honestly don't want to be involved in supporting that
11:50.47SputI'm glad that kubuntu nowadays most of the time "just works"
11:50.52ZogG_laptopbut we have centos os we are working mostly
11:51.03Sputand I bought myself a private laptop to have Gentoo for everything !work
11:51.06RST38hthrows up at the mention of centos
11:51.21ZogG_laptopso as mostly i'm using ssh so i don't care what i have on my computer
11:51.42RST38hZogG: Yeah, that is why you can still afford using Gentoo or Centos
11:51.52RST38hAs long as ssh works both ways...
11:52.05ZogG_laptopi need one way =)
11:52.15ZogG_laptopbut i would prefer debian i think over centos
11:52.24ZogG_laptopcentos is overrated for companies
11:53.01djszapiI use Mer at the company on my laptop :D :D
11:53.02SputZogG_laptop: it's mostly about the packaging for the internal tools. it's all optimized for kubuntu, and I don't feel like writing my own Gentoo packaging for that stuff
11:53.04ZogG_laptopi have a lot of pain in the ass, as we had problem with new hardware serves on centos5 i set centos6 as well as auto installation
11:53.43ZogG_laptopbut this intallation uses old scripts that are glued with patches one to another and written by al ot of different people for years, so its a mess
11:53.44Sputactually, could be fun to just try and see what happens if I use apt on this Gentoo box
11:55.49nix-cyrusdjszapi: what is Mer? meego fork?
11:56.56djszapihttp://www.merproject.org/
11:59.13ZogG_laptopnix-cyrus: mer was before maemo5 i think, it was community alt, than maemo5 come out people stoped work on it afaik and than switched to meego, after meego was abonded they switched back to mer while using meego as core afaik
12:04.53ZogG_laptoplol microsoft is developing it's own distro
12:05.04ZogG_laptopi mean linux one
12:08.07djszapiSput: interesting that, qt5 allows source imcompatible changes in certain cases.
12:08.49Sputdjszapi: only until the official release of 5.0 of course
12:08.56Sputbut yes, the impending freeze is not completely hard
12:09.38djszapiSput: I could even break the interface of the arguments() method of QCoreApplicaiton.
12:09.48djszapiQCoreApplication. I was wondering, but ok :)
12:10.03Sputyes, it's possible if it's reviewed and the maintainer agrees
12:10.16Sput(or possibly Lars himself now, not sure what the current policy is)

12:19.39ZogG_laptophmm, anyone can give me advise here with listview(or maybe i need to use gridview or something else). i have data i get from site, but the problem is that data may be different it has different types and all type would be displayed differently, or should i use all objects and use visible/ not visible?
12:21.04SqRt7744I am having a wierd problem... I have a model which works fine, in fact, if I use the model in a stardart Qt listview - no problems.  When I try to add it to a QML listview, nothing shows up and all the memory of the the computer (4GB + Swap) is quickly gobbled up. I have no idea what the problem could be. Would someone be so kind an glance at the constructor in mainwindow.cpp and tell me if anything seems obviously wrong? htt

12:21.37SqRt7744https://github.com/Iktwo/evopedia/tree/master/src
12:22.00SqRt7744seems I'm not the only one with listview problems  :-)
12:24.08ZogG_laptopwhat is the file?
12:24.58SqRt7744mainwindow.cpp
12:24.59ZogG_laptopSqRt7744: can't see your ql files
12:25.03ZogG_laptopcpp?
12:25.06SqRt7744i put the code in the constructor for testing purposes
12:25.09SqRt7744yeah
12:25.17SqRt7744line 69
12:25.23SqRt774468
12:25.50ZogG_laptopmaemo?
12:25.58SqRt7744the model, titleListModel, shows up fine in the qt ui.
12:26.03SqRt7744no, i'm porting it to harmattan
12:26.21SqRt7744but the QML code doesn't want to work... this is the problem.
12:26.30ZogG_laptopSqRt7744: may i just show you my ugly example?
12:26.41SqRt7744i modified the model to have roles and all that stuff
12:27.08ZogG_laptopso you build model in qt and than delivery it to qml?
12:27.21SqRt7744inherits qobject... all the pieces are there, but line 68 is the one that causes all the memory usage
12:27.25SqRt7744yeah
12:27.39ZogG_laptopSqRt7744: i build the list inside qml
12:28.11SqRt7744yeah, I can't do that. It is too complex, has to decode a file and all kinds of stuff
12:28.13djszapiSqRt7744: lol, you do not have main.cpp
12:28.22djszapithat is sort of weird ;-)
12:28.49SqRt7744no really, evopediaapplication.cpp is "main.cpp"
12:29.10djszapiyes, that is really odd.
12:29.14SqRt7744...but I'm only hacking at this code, I didn't create it.
12:29.25ZogG_laptopSqRt7744: you can pass the data as xml or json and parse it in qml to build
12:29.42djszapiSqRt7744: did you set the context property ?
12:30.35SqRt7744djszapi, line 68 in mainwindow.cpp  ??
12:30.43djszapihonestly, I do not see any qml files.
12:30.55ZogG_laptopSqRt7744: http://cdumez.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-to-use-c-list-model-in-qml.html ?
12:31.14djszapiwhy would you have QMainWindow in a qml app ?
12:31.52SqRt7744djszapi, oh sorry, the qml files are here: https://github.com/Iktwo/evopedia/tree/master/resources/harmattan
12:32.26djszapiSqRt7744: show me the ListView
12:32.41SqRt7744djszapi, I'm going to get rid of all the mainwindow stuff, it is part of the original code. But first I have to get the qml listview to work, and then port the rest of the mainwindow stuff to qml
12:33.07djszapiwhy would you deal with QMainWindow at all ?
12:33.07SqRt7744djszapi, it's https://github.com/Iktwo/evopedia/blob/master/resources/harmattan/qml/SearchPage.qml
12:33.13djszapiinstead of own main.cpp and all that jazz ?
12:33.33SqRt7744yeah I'll change all that, but that isn't the problem right now
12:33.57SqRt7744the problem is that the ListView is freaking out over the model and gobbling up all the memory
12:33.58djszapiwell, it is a complex environment that you do not need.
12:34.04SqRt7744true
12:34.13djszapiwould way easier to debug it in the nice way.
12:34.43djszapibut try to use console.log("TEST:", titlesView.model.data())
12:35.18djszapimake sure the context property set is called, qDebug() << "AFTER THE CONTEXT PROPERTY SET";
12:36.12SqRt7744well, that is part of the problem. The code never makes it past that line 68 in mainwindow, where the context property is set.
12:36.15djszapiand then take a look at your delegate
12:36.32djszapithat is definitely the issue
12:36.43SqRt7744the delegate is the issue?
12:36.59djszapino, if you do not set the context property, you cannot access to that in qml.
12:37.29djszapiview.setSource(QUrl("qrc:/meego/harmattan/qml/mainwindow.qml")); -> this is ugly as well, you know ? :p
12:37.51SqRt7744but it gets stuck at that point.  Why is that bad?
12:38.03djszapi-> //    QDeclarativeContext *rootCtxt = viewer->rootContext();
12:38.11djszapiwhy is it commented ?
12:38.17djszapiand again, clean up this mess please.
12:38.26djszapiyou do not need QDC inside a QMW
12:38.32djszapitry to start it from clean table, really.
12:38.35SqRt7744it's the product of many attempts to get it to work in various ways
12:38.40djszapiyou will spare a lot of pain for yourself.
12:39.43djszapiSqRt7744: example for a main.cpp: https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdeedu/kanagram/repository/revisions/master/entry/src/harmattan/main.cpp
12:40.12djszapiyou need a view, ask for the root context, and then set the property of that.
12:40.26djszapithen set the source, then showFullScreen.
12:40.41SqRt7744alright I'll try it again  :-)
12:41.06SqRt7744i initially thought it was a problem with the TitlesModel, but since it works in the qtlistview, it can't be that...
12:41.16SqRt7744thanks for your help
12:41.18djszapiwell, you did not even set the property.
12:41.41djszapiyou can try to make that work in the QMainWindow, and probably will work, but you need to rector this mess either way ;-)

13:32.17DrGrovThe problem is that I could not find any suitable such Triple H skull yesterday when I was searching. 15:29.34DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: I just thought about it.. If my drop down menu status is Offline that means I avoid these additional account bs?
15:29.55itsnotabigtruckit would make a lot more sense to be able to add im/social network ids to normal contact entries
15:30.06DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: Yes, it becomes too cluttered. No way to distinguish any contacts at all then :/
15:30.18DrGrovYeah, that I would think is better.
15:30.22itsnotabigtruckso that i could enter e.g. Joe Skyper, with skype as #1 and phone as #2
15:30.35itsnotabigtruckand if i dial joe skyper it attempts skype if possible, then tries phone otherwise
15:30.56itsnotabigtruckit's not a very complicated concept but nothing does that, afaik

15:32.21DrGrovHow is it with all these nice tweaks & customizations with PR 1.1 such as IPSMagic, ProfileMatic... Will they work on PR 1.2 or will Aegis somehow intervene and disable the features?

16:57.19djszapiSput kdelibs 4.8 is already in arch stable ;-)
16:58.45Sputdjszapi: another 0day release for us as well, although of course we use testing for something like this, not stable
16:59.26djszapiyes, it was in testing for few days
16:59.52Sputin Gentoo we also provide packaging for git versions of KDE/Qt, so the packages have already received testing and are basically finished by the time the official tarballs are released upstream
16:59.59djszapialthough, I would not like to mess up with testing repositories, so that is not possible for me as an installation source for packages.
17:00.01Sputthen we immediately bump into testing
17:00.21Sputstable has much stricter rules than on other distros, so it will take a few months until 4.8 shows up in there
17:00.31Sputbut desktop users are not the target group for stable anyway

17:02.36djszapiSput: linux-3.2.2 :)
17:03.07djszapigcc 4.6.2
17:03.20Sputsame here.
17:03.32Sputyou can't impress me with such numbers :P
17:04.10djszapifrom stable ?
17:04.23Sputno, since these things are not stable yet
17:04.26Sputbleeding edge != stable
17:04.40Sputgcc 4.6.2 still has issues with several packages, for example, such as grub
17:05.01Sputso we're not letting it loose on users that rely on the system being rockstable
17:05.01itsnotabigtruckthe contact merging thing isn't a bad idea, in theory
17:05.32Sputalso, we have this 30 day policy for stable (package must have been in testing for at least 30 days without open bugs)
17:05.36itsnotabigtruckwhoops, scrolled up
17:05.46djszapiSput: that is the main difference. I do not need to mess up with a full testing repository.
17:06.00djszapigrub works fine here with this gcc apparently.
17:06.14Sputdjszapi: yeah, my grub works fine as well
17:06.20Sputbut apparently there are some corner cases
17:06.20itsnotabigtruckdo you mean *mess with
17:06.32Sputalso, "Gentoo testing" is probably at least as stable as Arch stable
17:06.41Sputit's not like bleeding, for that we have overlays
17:07.04nix-cyrusdjszapi: because we don't need build grub from source I think)
17:07.25Sputif you want to run current software on the desktop, testing is more appropriate for you than stable, and yet it won't usually break
17:07.25djszapinix-cyrus: packagers need.
17:07.57Sputmaybe the grub issue was fixed in 4.6.2 even, I haven't had a look at the list of current blocker for gcc stabilization
17:08.02djszapioh sure arch could have an "old-times" repository ;-)
17:08.03SputI'm running testing anyway, so I don't care much about stable
17:08.32SputI personally think the branches in Gentoo are misnamed, "testing" should be "stable" and "stable" should be "debian"
17:08.41djszapiwe have archserver for superstable purposes though.
17:08.43itsnotabigtruckyou can't have stable without stale
17:09.12Sputbut I can see the use case for stable, if you run a source distro on say a server you want to reduce rebuilds and not bump to every version
17:09.27Sputand on the desktop, just run testing, it is stable and uptodate
17:09.27djszapigo for archserver.
17:11.19Sputthat said, I am really not criticizing Arch, if I ever have to run a binary distro again, I will probably try it out again... but for my own purposes, I prefer the flexibility of a source distro
17:11.25Sputand for work I'm pretty much forced to use kubuntu
17:12.29Sputbtw, gcc 4.6 with -march=native for i7 makes a noticeable speed difference to older versions of gcc and generic architecture packages
17:12.51Sputthat's one of the biggest downsides of binary distros, you don't get packages optimized for your cpu architecture
17:12.58djszapiimho, it is more dangerous to use old softwares in certain cases if we are speaking about the stability because new versions (inside the same major version) might bring serious bugfixes. It happened once on opensuse with an ati driver bug, and everybody updated to the bugfix release, but them.
17:13.14Sputdjszapi: I fully agree, I never understood why some people think "old == stable"
17:13.18itsnotabigtruckit's a real shame that binary distros don't split amd64/i386 into several subarchitectures
17:13.32Sputdjszapi: as I said earlier, the target groups of Gentoo and Arch are pretty much the same :)
17:13.42djszapi:p
17:13.47itsnotabigtruckpeople say "omg source distros are optimized for /your/ distro" but in all honesty there's very little difference between e.g. westmere and sandy bridge, or whatnot
17:13.47nix-cyrusnooo)
17:13.53Sputwe prefer rolling releases and uptodate software about old, "stable"
17:13.55itsnotabigtruck*/your/ cpu
17:14.10Sputitsnotabigtruck: there is a huge difference between "generic amd64" and "i7"
17:14.24Clinthow huge?
17:14.25itsnotabigtruckbut there needs to be e.g. nehalem and better, c2 and better, and generic
17:15.56itsnotabigtruckfor what it's worth i tried arch a while back and it was pretty neat, but my goal was to set up selinux and that wasn't so hot
17:16.24itsnotabigtrucksince it's only implemented through a bunch of unofficial aur packages and the basic policy doesn't work at all on arch
17:16.26djszapithat is never gonna be nifty.
17:16.32SputClint: look at http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel_avx_gcc&num=1 for example
17:16.43Sputdon't have time to look for the other benchmarks right now
17:17.09itsnotabigtruckalso it's pretty obnoxious how in theory arch is a binary distro, but a *huge* chunk of what one would want is in AUR only
17:17.10Sputapparently, the new i7 instruction sets can make a huge difference, of course as always that depends on the application
17:17.42Sput(where "huge" means "double the performance")
17:17.58Sputand that's compared to core2, not to speak about "generic amd64" which is what binary distros usually have
17:18.39Sputand for a real usecase: friend of mine had a HTPC that ran some binary distro, wasn't able to play HD video without lag and stutter

18:58.01itsnotabigtruckyour assertion is that harmattan has more quality games than wp7
18:58.11nid0personally i've never seen any particular problems with either browser, the only thing that irritates me with wp7's is that the "default to desktop view" option doesnt properly mask the user-agent, so sites run by shitface webmasters can ignore it and present you a mobile site
18:58.11itsnotabigtruckwp7 has lots of publishers on board with major games
18:58.15itsnotabigtruckharmattan has a few one-offs
18:58.21RST38hitsnot: The fun part though, is when you DO decide to sell the device, but develping for it STILL isn'tsustainable
18:58.25itsnotabigtruckthat doesn't make wp7 better than harmattan
18:58.35itsnotabigtruckwp7 is a bigger platform, bigger platforms have more games and stuff

19:08.55RST38hdjszapi: there is, I know it, just had to resolve an issue related to it, for a friend at work
19:08.56ieatlintRST38h: sounds about what i'd expect
19:09.17itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: yeah, the steps go 1. update the package list from nokia servers, 2. install wget, so that you can 3. download the deb, 4. install the deb, 5. install the dependencies needed to make the deb work, 6. reboot so lpsmagic starts
19:09.17djszapiRST38h: need to consider the future job. :)
19:09.32DrGrovAnd it does run automatically without me needing to do anything after the reboot?
19:09.42RST38hdjszapi: if you are so choosy that you absolutely want to do C++, stay away from Android
19:09.42itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: yup. but it takes about 1.5mins to start after the reboot
19:10.11DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: I do understand the steps and commands. Do I need to make my screen idle time longer then from 30 sec before it activates screen lock?
19:10.25DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: I just wondered since the command nr. 5 looked like it is missing something :)
19:10.34itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: nope, just reboot and leave it be
19:10.36djszapiRST38h: why do you suggest so ?
19:10.47itsnotabigtruckwhen lpsmagic kicks in, the touch screen will stop responding for about half a second
19:10.53RST38hdjszapi: Because Android people follow the principle "whatever works"
19:10.57itsnotabigtruckif you were using the phone at the time
19:11.14DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: So even if I have lock screen enabled within 30 seconds it kicks in automatically when the screen already is in idle mode?
19:11.34RST38hdjszapi: they do not do things "right", they do things randomly, being led by whatever ideas they have got from their universty classes and entry level jobs
19:11.45itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: whenever you're on the lock screen (the dark one with the clock) it's active
19:11.51itsnotabigtrucktimeout doesn't matter
19:12.05RST38hdjszapi; if you are ok with it (I am), there is no problem
19:12.06DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: Yes, the one with clock. I just wondered if It locks automatically before than 1.5 min has passed

19:12.46itsnotabigtrucknot sure what your question is
19:12.47RST38hThe applications API (i.e. Android Java API) is basically Symbian reimplemented in Java.
19:12.49djszapiRST38h: Rovio invited me, but I would probably lose my Gluon project as a "concurence" for them. On the other hand, I do not like how they build games.
19:13.06DrGrovitsnotabigtruck: Ok, no problem then :) I just wondered to ask since you said it takes about 1.5 min before it kicks in
19:13.20djszapiconcurrence*, qt5 and Nokia are also nice opportunities. :)
19:13.27itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: ohhh...well, by "kick in" i meant it finishing loading
19:13.27RST38hdjszapi: That is apps, not platform. And you mean you do not like how they fill themselves with beer and then record their own burping to be used in games? =)
19:13.50SpeedEvilDo not criticise Rovio. People who do have been found dead in unsolved drive-by catapultings.
19:13.50itsnotabigtruckit takes about 1.5mins for it to become active, then, whenever you're at the clock screen, you get lpsmagic

19:17.10DrGrovBut that clock is not controlled from elsewhere? If I have the standard lock screen I have the digital clock, can that not be changed to be an analog clock as well?
19:17.11itsnotabigtruckDrGrov: well, it works, and it's cool, so install it :D it's written in python so try unzipping the deb and reading the source

22:47.45DocScrutinizererr, what's the problem with running meego on N9?
22:47.59ieatlintqml already supports that essentially... when you set the qml file on the viewer, it takes a QUrl...
22:48.02DocScrutinizerexcept for meego itself
22:48.07ieatlintno, i mean harmattan images
22:48.23DocScrutinizerooh
22:49.42ieatlintas far back as 0.2010.42-6
22:50.11DrGrovI now restarted the phone after I powered it off for the reboot to make lpsmagic working.
22:50.42DocScrutinizerieatlint: (qmlite) sure, thought as much, just they will enforce it as the only supported way to run app on N9, so they finally reached the state where you lost control of your executables completely, and they can monetize each second of usage of every single app
22:50.48DrGrovI must say it is really working out well, perfect for my needs to monitor battery consumption without needing to second guess anything. Not even need to touch the phone which makes it even better :)
22:51.17ieatlintDocScrutinizer: no no, that's not in store for the n9
22:51.21ieatlintyou're thinking of meltemi
22:51.32DocScrutinizeraaah, sure. You're right
22:51.51DocScrutinizermelt-me
22:52.03ieatlintnokia sure does like its winds
22:52.19DrGrovDocScrutinizer: BTW, did you want to have some charger things for the N900?
22:52.20ieatlintperhaps the next OS will be codenamed "breaking wind" in finnish
22:52.30DocScrutinizerme produces some wind in general direction Nokia ;-P
22:53.02DocScrutinizerDrGrov: hm?
22:54.37DocScrutinizerDrGrov: how does it behave when "missed call"?
22:54.52DocScrutinizer(the lpsmagic)

23:09.12DrGrovDocScrutinizer: I have no idea since I turned it off and put it on charging :( I can test it tomorrow and report back to you, I mean test it today since it is Sunday already. That is if you like to know?
23:09.34DocScrutinizersure
23:10.45DocScrutinizerjust suspecting conflicts between "2 missed calls" (if there's even such a thing on that lowpower screen) and what LPS is doing
23:11.44DrGrovWhen I had missed calls on regular low power screen it just showed an missed call upgoing arrow :D
23:12.24DrGrovSo it just showed one upside arrow even though I could have 4 missed calls and 2 text messages. Just a envelope and the arrow were shown on the default low power screen.
23:12.40DrGrovWhat makes you think that there would be a conflict? A conflict because of "too many" events?
23:13.47DocScrutinizerbecause of conflicting ways the both notification daemons use
23:14.06DocScrutinizernot sure about that, just wondering
23:17.02DrGrovOk :)
23:17.39DrGrovIf that was to happen could LPS or/and the default low power screen segfault? :D
23:24.27DrGrovGotta ask admiral0 when he joins in again to see what he has done with it
23:24.57DrGrovDocScrutinizer: BTW, did you want to have some spare N900 charger things? LIke the dual charging plug?
23:28.35gabriel9evening
23:29.08gabriel9is there any way to play some sound from qml?
23:29.24gabriel9on onClicked play some mp3
23:30.06gabriel9swit jisus there is sound element
23:30.08gabriel9:)
23:30.40DocScrutinizerDrGrov: (segfault) I guess not
23:31.26DocScrutinizerI'd just not be surprised to find one overrides the other and makes it vanish
23:32.00DocScrutinizerDrGrov: (charger thing) sure, why not
23:33.26DrGrovBut what if they co-exist side by side? LPS and the default low power screen?
23:33.52DrGrovDocScrutinizer: I have to try and find them charger things then, I thought that if I get them you might be interested
