00:46.04mkzquick question: how to I use konqueror to open audio cd's? isn't it media:/ or something?
00:46.26mkznote: kde 3.5
00:46.53Dhraakellianmkz: you can get to it from there
00:47.07Dhraakellianbut audiocd:/ will get you there quickly
00:47.12Dhraakellianmore quickly, that is
00:47.44mkzthat was it!
00:48.00Dhraakellianwould probably use rubyripper instead, but he hangs out around EAC-loving audiophiles too much for his own good anyway

00:50.07mkzwhat lib needs to be installed in order to rip mp3 from konqueror?
00:50.12Dhraakellianlame
00:50.26mkzof course...
00:50.28mkz:)
00:50.57Dhraakellian"lame ain't (an) mp3 encoder" (since it was originally just a wrapper around FhG's encoder once upon a time, iirc)

00:52.16mkzarg... installing lame isn't enought for konqueror to load audiocd:/mp3 or audiocd:/MP3 (I forget which case is correct, but neither work)...

00:57.07oneforalllinmad
00:57.11oneforallerr libmad
00:58.58mkzsadly, this is a new machine build and I can't recall exactly what libs were required, but I used to be able to simply use konqueror with audiocd:/MP3 and then drag and drop to whatever location I wanted.  Personally, I don't have to use konquorer, but it works well.  Right now I can't see the MP3's with konquorer, so clearly I've missed an important lib... I have lame installed, as well as gstreamer0.10-lanme (just for good measure).  Still
00:58.58mkzno joy
00:59.39mkzcdparanoia doesn't appear to export to mp3 (according to man cdparanoia
01:00.15mkzbut then I suppose I could just use lame..

06:39.45piccai really appreciate KDE ... recently i decided to try out alternatives (something i do every few years) and tried Gnome and XFCE, but they just don't compare in terms of functionality and application availability (also seem very slow)

10:00.45SchranZViruSyes, thanks. I have forgotten that ^^

10:06.49SchranZViruSYes, but IMHO it's time to get more gui apps instead of command line ones if kde should become more usable
10:07.15SchranZViruSnot everyone can or wants to get so much into the whole linux stuff to do all cmd line ones
10:07.25pinotree"get more gui apps", sure, but not cloning 1:1 interfaces just for the sake of it
10:07.45JucatoSchranZViruS: although I would have to agree with pinotree... creating a GUI that is 1:1 just a translation of command line options, just for the sake of making GUI's, is not really a good thing to do. but it's a start anyway
10:08.39SchranZViruSI think so too, thats because this app is only a beginning. I am going to make it an real encoder. And espacially making it thread safe (not like mencoder which runs horribly on multiple processors)
10:08.44Jucatoit's not good because 1. It gives GUI's an undeserved bad reputation and 2. exposes the user to the same complexities that a GUI should be helping to solve

22:14.42Half-LeftBut I dont see what background your on about
22:15.15firephotoRight now it just uses a somewhat opaque background. then it had an option to pick a color or maybe just make it transparent.
22:15.41Half-LeftNever seen that option
22:15.49firephotoso i could randomly have a bunch of folderview widgets around with no borders showing.
22:16.41firephotohttp://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/1310515~30b2f4d56576c7d1d5a0bd203383b968/snapshot12.png this was possible.
22:16.43Half-LeftWell Folder View has had alot of heavy developement
22:17.13firephotonot really worried since i don't do icons on my desktop. just surprised the option was there one day and then gone next time i noticed. ;)
22:17.31Half-Leftfirephoto: I think that was before the idea of containers came along
22:19.08Half-LeftIn my view they look much better now with the nice text on the top showing where your looking
22:19.56firephotoi agree that looks better. i just like the option to make the background go away. it's kind of a background on a background going on .
22:20.41Half-Leftyer but then you may as well do anyway with folder view all together
22:21.04firephotothat doesn't make sense. or you're not getting what i'm saying.
22:21.14Half-LeftIt's the containers that set it apart from the normal desktop view
22:21.35firephotofolderview doesn't need the fade to gray background to work. it's just some invisible things holding icons of files next to each other. ;)
22:22.05firephotobut when in use they are part of the desktop (view)
22:22.44Half-LeftYer which is spooky
22:23.38Half-LeftI prefer the way it is now
