18:18.23hobanhello. how can I force a custom refresh rate in kde's desktop effects? I am trying to eliminate screen tearing. When I used gnome, I could disable automatic detection and force a rate, can I do so in kde?
18:18.58sreichenable vsync?
18:19.14hobansreich: I've done that, I still have tearing
18:19.25hobanI think it's because the window manager isn't syncing
18:20.11hobanin gnome, to get it to work, I had to set vsync in nvidia-settings in general settings and in opengl settings, then I had to go to compiz-config and force a framerate that was a multiple of my monitors rate because it wasn't autodetected properly
18:20.26hobanI think the same thing is happening in KDE but I don't know how to force it to a rate

18:52.24hobanright
18:52.35hobanI can't imagine how difficult it would be to code for so much hardware
18:52.41hobanthe Mac devs have it easy
18:53.33hobanthe reason for the tearing is this:
18:53.37phbHi All, probably a very trivial question. I need to register my app to handle an URI type (foo:bar:xyz). On a gnome system I use gconf, but I can't seem to find a corresponding thingie for KDE
18:54.04hobanwhen I selected Use VSync in desktop effects, it was putting a framerate ceiling at 60frames/sec
18:54.24hobanwhen I was doing things like dragging around wobbly windows with translucency, the framerate was dropping down to 30-40 fps
18:54.57hobandisabling vsync puts the fps above 100 normally, and when I'm doing things like dragging around those windows, it drops to 60fps
18:55.09hobanso I still may have problems when viewing movies, dunno yet

23:36.38srk9Hi. I am running KDE 4.5.1 on both my amd64 desktop and my x86 laptop. On my laptop, KDE looks gorgeous and its transparency is magnificent, but on my desktop, it does not look quite so good. There is some amoung of transparency, but it looks awful and I can hardly see through it. The K menu is a dull gray with minimal transparency while on my laptop, it looks like glass. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
