I might switch back anyway, because it seems older/other versions had most of what I use, anyway
06:33.55darwinactually, I like some of the KDE4 appearance like the panel, but I could set that up in KDE3/TDE
06:34.44darwinthe main thing preventing me from doing so immediately is if it would make a messy kicker menu and not allow me to configure some programs' appearance

19:18.51zeugmawell, they aren't really tabs, but I didn't have a better word for it. What I mean are the apps that show up in the taskbar.
19:20.16Ard0nikThat particular widget is called the Task Manager, so I guess I'd call the individual applications "Tasks."
19:20.45Ard0nikzeugma: Do you have a screenshot?
19:20.49zeugmaArd0nik: OK. I'll call them 'tasks' :-)
19:21.31Ard0nikIn the absence of a screenshot, I guess I'd try fiddling with the Task Manager settings -- but maybe you tried that already....

19:21.51Ard0niknods.
19:22.30zeugmaArd0nik: yeah, I"ve messed around with settings. This has happened sporadically on fedora 12. 16, and now 18.
19:22.45Ard0nikWith different KDE versions?
19:23.05zeugmaArd0nik: of course, I've maintained my homedir for quite some time, so it may well be something wonky in my config.
19:23.13Ard0nikThat's a possibility.
19:23.16zeugmaArd0nik: yes, different versions
19:23.59zeugmaArd0nik: i just hate the thuoght of removing .kde so it will start fresh, because then I lose a lot of customization.
19:24.50Ard0nikYou could try logging out, moving ~/.kde4 to ~/.kde4-backup from outside of KDE, and then logging back in.
19:25.04Ard0nikBut then, you say the problem is intermittent anyway, so maybe it'll go away regardless.
19:25.32zeugmaArd0nik: exactly. If I could reproduce it consistently, that would be a good solution.

19:27.05zeugmaArd0nik: or does it maintain some state under ~/.config ?
19:27.58Ard0nikzeugma: The best way to tell if an app is using the XDG/FreeDesktop ~/.config standard for storing its data is to look inside that directory for the individual application name.
19:29.02Ard0nikWhen I look in there, I don't see anything KDE-specific (there's ~/.config/Clementine, but that's just a Qt app.)
19:29.10zeugmaArd0nik: yeah. I need to browse through the tree anyway. I recently moved to F18 from f16, and I'm sure there are differences.
19:29.39Ard0nikEverything ought to quietly migrate over even if there were changes....

22:12.47kyan_Hello! I'm using KDE 4.5.5, and trying to make KOrganizer restart automatically if it ever gets closed. I've tried a couple of different methods that work fine with Firefox (designed for making a kiosk-mode browser), but they aren't working with KOrganizer for some reason. Any thoughts on how to achieve this? Thanks. :-)

23:13.25os7eenhi, I have enabled to open files with one click, and I have put that 'folder view' widget to the desktop with some of my applications shortcuts, but when I click on them and open them, they still remain selected / highlighted, how can I change that to automatically unselect them after opening, thanks
