15:53.04TaokiHi... I have a problem with openSUSE 13.2 / KDE 4.11.2: Apparently images are detected based on their extension rather than mimetype. Due to this, Dopphin odesn't generate thumbnails for .jpg images with the .png extension or the other way around. How do I fix this?

16:04.01rdieterTaoki: on linux, the mimetype *is* usually detected by file extention
16:04.49Taokirdieter: IIRC that wasn't the case. Anyway, how do I fix png / jpg inverted extentions, and make them be detected properly?
16:04.57rdieterso what you really want is to fix extentions that are wrong
16:05.12Taokix.x
16:05.25TaokiNo, I want images with incorrect file extensions to work again like they did before
16:05.26rdieterTaoki: one possibility is to use 'file' on each, which uses contents only
16:05.31TaokiApparently a distribution upgrade broken this
16:05.43TaokiI need to change the configuration
16:05.46rdieterTaoki: shared-mime-info handles it
16:06.19TaokiWhere is shared-mime-info located?
16:06.29rdieterafiact, it only uses extention for jpeg
16:06.29TaokiOh... you mean the package?
16:06.32TaokiI have that installed
16:06.36TaokiBut it still doesn't work
16:06.43rdietersee /usr/share/mime/image/jpeg.xml
16:06.45rdieterfor example
16:06.59rdieterand png.xml ni there
16:07.01rdieterin there.
16:07.05rdieterthey only use globs
16:07.35rdieterso, one way to fix is to use something like 'file', which operates on content only, to detect the erroneously named files
16:08.10rdieterI just tried renaming a jpeg to png, and it tells me:  file baseball_1982-1.png => baseball_1982-1.png: JPEG image data, EXIF standard
16:08.29TaokiThe problem is Dolphin doesn't do this itself. So I need Dolphin to do it I believe
16:08.38TaokiI have the proper mime types in /usr/share/mime/image/
16:08.56rdieterdolphin (and kde) uses the shared-mime-data stuff
16:09.31rdieteranyway, run 'file' over all your images, and fix accordingly
16:09.40rdieterwould be my suggestion
16:10.15Taokirdieter: the file command detects the correct extension
16:10.23TaokiSo it might be a Dolphin issue...
16:10.56rdieterI'll say it again:  dolphin (and shared-mime-info) only looks at file extention, not file content
16:11.09rdieterwhereas the 'file' command only looks at content
16:11.18TaokiThis was not the case before upgrading to openSUSE 13.2 (in 13.1 it worked)
16:11.31Taokiand i had kde 4.11.2 in both
16:11.39TaokiSo something changed
16:11.39rdietermaybe shared-mime-info changed between those 2 releases
16:11.54rdieterregardless, I hope you can agree having misnamed files is not ideal?  why not fix it?
16:12.22TaokiBecause images i download have bad extentions, because the services that host them are stupid. It's not my business to fix them
16:12.33rdietergood luck then

19:52.27wydsiwyghmm… I can load a kubuntu distro in my vm but I can’t seem to run neon. I get “Failed to load ldlinux.c32” any idea. I search google and saw the same error nothing seemed to be related to neon not virtualbox. Any ideas?

20:31.42pedahzurLooking for help with the KDE Network Manager Plasma app.  I have a VPN connection that I set up via a script, and am converting it to use network manager, via the KDE plasma widget. So far, it's working and working well.  One niggle: the script I have for my VPN has my user/pass in it so I don't have to type it ever time. Is there a way to save my password in the Plasma Config? My laptop has full-drive encryption, so I'm not worried
20:31.44pedahzurabout losing my password that way.
20:33.13Konwhaldpedahzur: Take a look at Kwallet, maybe it's the key. I don't know much on this topic :/
