00:06.12Moultsigise: I am not familiar with xclip board, but is there perhaps a way to know which clipboard is being displayed?
00:12.45sigiseMoult: I have 'xclip' too, but when I launch it from shell, nothing happens.
00:15.13sigiseIf I exec "xclip -verbose -selection primary" I should just see the output there, in shell, right?

I have just switched from Kubuntu 14.04 and KDE 4. I am looking for the functionality I had on Kde 4 of using a keyboard shortcut to grey out the desktop windows and reveal the desktop widgets over the top of them. Does such functionality exist on KDE 5 and if so how do I bind it to a keystroke
04:43.14harlandskicombination? I have tried Googling but my query got lost in 'reveal desktop widget', which is not the same thing. I also have that installed, but would rather not reveal the whole desktop just to see my widgets. Thank you for your help :-)

05:05.34squeamish_kittyhey there! I'm having an issue with my Plasma, whenever I play a fullscreen game on Steam the panels freeze completely. They retain their function, and I can click on them, but they don't "update". Also, desktop change animations are completely gone.
05:06.14squeamish_kittyAnd I'm having some system-wide screen tearing.. I'm running KDE Neon, fully updated. CPU is an Intel Core i3 6100, GPU is NVIDIA GTX 970 (Gigabyte G1)
05:06.16squeamish_kittythanks in advance!
05:07.51thiagotearing is definitely a driver problem
05:08.02thiagothough AFAIR it can't be completely fixed so long as you're in X
05:08.06thiagoyou need Wayland for the proper solution
05:08.19squeamish_kittyI did manage to fix it by opening the NVIDIA settings panel as root and forcing full composition pipeline then saving that to the X file
05:08.48squeamish_kittybut I understand that it can cause performance dropdowns and stuff like that
05:08.59thiagosorry, I have no idea about that
05:09.02squeamish_kittyum.. would my games work in Wayland? I understand that lots of apps aren't compatible :(
05:09.09thiagohasn't had an NVidia GPU in 7 years
05:09.14squeamish_kitty:O
05:09.18squeamish_kittythat makes sense
05:09.28squeamish_kittyit's OK :)
05:09.32thiagonon-compatible apps are run under an X emulation
05:09.41thiagowhich means the problem won't go away inside the game
05:09.47squeamish_kittyincluding games?
05:09.51thiagoyes
05:09.57squeamish_kittydoes it affect performance if X is being emulated?
05:10.07thiagonot that I know of

05:10.32squeamish_kittyoh wow
05:11.16ronnoc[opinion] Team Red w/ open sauce drivers are the future of 'nix gaming and general graphics [/opinion]
05:11.26thiagowell, for one thing, it fixes the architectural issue of where the compositor is, in the pipeline
05:11.45thiagothat's the one thing that may give you performance and makes it possible to do proper vsync
05:12.12thiagoronnoc: open *sauce* ?

11:15.00peterixwhat environment variables are set for vbox under KDE and gnome?
11:15.06peterixis there a difference?
11:15.50harlandskiasturm: shtrb: I managed to get back into an old Kubuntu 14.04 installation I had and got a screenshot of what I was talking about https://ibb.co/iQZ36m It seems that this was called "Show [Widget] Dashboard" and the shortcut could be set in the Plasma section of Global Shortcuts. No such option on my install of 5 it seems (Plasma 5.8.6 on Debian 9)
11:15.50Vamp898I opened the KDE System Settings --> Display and Monitor --> Scale Display (at the bottom) --> Set to 2

11:18.04peterixthere's also this: http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/highdpi.html
11:18.05peterixyou could try to use these as a workaround, or to force vbox to behave
11:18.14peterixThe ui is done in Qt
11:20.17peterixthis problem could be buried in so many places, it's not even funny
11:22.41CalinouVamp898: if you use 200% scaling in VirtualBox, the VM does not need to support hiDPI
11:22.46Calinouit'll be much lighter on its rendering system too
11:22.56Calinou(I have a 4K laptop and always use 200% screen scaling in VirtualBox due to this)
11:23.13Calinouyou can find that option in the VM settings, you can change it while running
11:25.47peterixit really sounds like this: vbox is picking up the display scaling stuff from KDE, resulting in the application being 'smaller' in virtual units. then it's using the same units inside the VM... which is really messy
11:26.02peterixis it ever so slightly blurred?
11:26.23peterixI imagine this would mess up font rendering the most
11:27.48peterixhttps://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15765#comment:4

11:29.58Vamp898you are messing up two different features
11:30.05Vamp898VirtualBox does have the ability to scale the VM Client
11:30.10Vamp898i do _not_ use this feature at all
11:30.16Vamp898it is disabled (set to 100%)
11:30.35harlandskiasturm: Any idea which mailing list I could write to about this? It seems that "show dashboard" used to be part of "kdeplasma-addons" in 4, but isn't (yet?) in 5
11:31.19Vamp898When i run VirtualBox on GNOME (GNOME(!) is set to 200% scaling) than Everything the VirtualBox Window itself is bigger. Like the fonts in the Window are the double size so i can read them (but they are clear, not blurry)
11:31.42Vamp898And when i execute a VM, the scaling of GNOME have no effect on the VM. The VM looks just normal (tiny font) and does have full resolution (3200x1800)
11:32.30Vamp898When i do the same in KDE, the VM only have 1600x900 resolution and there is no way to increase it. That means i have a lot of black borders around the actual VM when i enable fullscreen mode (it is not blurry)
11:32.57Vamp898This is completely unrelated to VirtualBox own's scaling feature that i dont use
11:34.20Vamp898It seems like when i execute VirtualBox in an KDE Environment with enabled Scaling, VirtualBox thinks my screen only does have 1600x900 resolution
11:34.27toskyVamp898: right now there is a meeting in #plasma, but you'd better join that channel and ask there - remembering to call the desktop with its name (Plasma, not KDE)

When it is not possible I'll have to use older applications or a less stable OS. For the moment I'll use debian testing+some applications from unstable. I know testing != stable. ;)

23:47.46Aardwolftosky, is that an environment variable? If I type env, no LC variables are listed. There is "LANG=en_US.UTF-8" though.

23:49.39Aardwolftosky, ok I see. How does KDE do its thing where you can choose a custom string as data format? That is different than selecting between "en_US.UTF-8" and others right?
23:49.48toskythere is no "KDE" things; it come from Qt
23:49.50toskycomes*
23:49.58AardwolfHow does Qt do it?
23:50.04toskyit uses the system locale
23:51.11AardwolfIf LC_TIME is something assigned to a spoken language... how can you customize it? With such strings like "HH:MM:SS" if you know what I mean
23:52.22AardwolfIn my previous linux installation I also used KDE. LANG was en_US.UTF-8. LC_TIME was en_US.UTF-8. Yet I could make dolphin dipslay a different date format. How can I get that behavior now too?
23:52.32AardwolfI do not want to override LC_TIME, it breaks other things
23:54.48toskywhat was the previous distribution? This new behavior was introduced with Qt5
23:55.42*** join/#kde i-am-the-slime (~mark@2a02:8109:9200:3920:cd58:f0a5:42b6:b677)
23:56.06AardwolfOk. Please reconsider this new behavior if you are a dev. Please do not depend on LC_TIME for this. Linux locales are horrible to configure, and may break other things like meld and flash if you don't do a superstandard setup
23:56.42AardwolfMy clock does not depend on LC_TIME. ls date display does not depend on it.
23:57.42toskyI'm not a Plasma developer
23:58.01toskyoh, well, it does not matter, Dolphin is not part of Plasma
23:58.19AardwolfDolphin could really use a good old setting of "date format" :)
