01:46.55DarwinElfoption is really needed for POSIX-based operating system (OS) distributions, and KDE, etc., to define your computer system as some type: server (often assumed,) desktop (now some distributions like Kubuntu I think assume that and install low-latency kernel,) laptop, etc... because every time I go into KDE after version 3, it forces me to get distracted by a supposed 'airplane mode' for my desktop?  The KDE developers really think I'm going to drag my tower &
01:46.55DarwinElfmonitor & IBM model M onto an airplane?! (if some obscure first class airline might allow it, but I can't afford that...)
01:52.37jankusanagi_?
01:52.52jankusanagi_is that an accidental paste? xD
01:52.57DarwinElfit's not a paste
01:53.41jankusanagi_then you focus too much in the "airplane" part of the airplane mode xD
01:53.48jankusanagi_call it "offline mode" if you will
01:54.26DarwinElfthere already is 'disconnect'... I just do *NOT* want to see that option on a (non-portable) workstation/server

01:56.40jankusanagi_quite frankly, you'd be happy to not even use Plasma-NM... a static desktop machine has little need for it

01:58.24DarwinElfwell, I have a PC with two 3.5 disc drives right here on my desk, and it works, though I haven't used it in some weeks/months because I'll be transferring it to a case that doesn't have a USB door that was broken off (though no longer could get that case :\  )
01:58.38DarwinElf'two 3.5" floppy/stiffy disc drives'
01:59.39DarwinElfi don't know what plasma-nm is.  I prefer the KDE versions that have dolphin, plus many important updates/bugfixes, like the latest plasma on Kubuntu...
02:00.37kevincsDarwinElf: plasma-nm is for editing / managing NetworkManager connections
02:00.40jankusanagi_Plasma-NM is Plasma's network manager widget, the one that has an "airplane mode" checkbox you hate
02:01.18DarwinElfnetwork-monitor?  Sure, but I don't know what script to setup network on systemd systems... later today and this or next week on this Kubuntu PC (systemd) and another I administer (if I can find a user-friendly FreeBSD) I'll be doing 'rm -rf' to those and installing SysVInit or similar I can use network scripts... Kubuntu just has NM default and as I use it temporarily, I can just hide it...
02:01.43DarwinElf'SysVInit or similar OSes/distributions/distros'
02:01.58kevincsDarwinElf: you don't have to use NetworkManager, if you want you can use systemd instead

02:02.48DarwinElfjust only four OSes with it have my GPU drivers :\ ... luckily one was *ubuntu, which at least has Kubuntu...

02:05.15bumblefuzz...is there any way to force it to update?
02:05.42DarwinElfokay, well it's not display drivers, I'm talking about, but GPU, i.e. using graphics processing--computation, i.e., OpenCL or something... but I am off-topic now.  If I could do that on a non-systemd OS with KDE, it'd be perfect...

02:06.35bumblefuzzthe weather report I'm looking at is 3 days old
02:06.54kevincsvoid linux as base strata for example and opencl from arch or something?
02:09.26DarwinElfi might try it, but I'm in Northern hemisphere, and weather is warming now... I was using extra CPU & GPU resources all the time for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC, by University of California at Berkeley for their, other/independent research) and earning gridcoin with BOINC, or mining other GPU cryprtocurrencies, but now it's usually just going to be too warm to even use that.  I think I'll just 'rm -rf /,' install FreeBSD Unix &
02:09.27DarwinElfSlackware GNU/Linux (both which should have recent-enough plasma or informally 'KDE5') and just get back to the GPU stuff in Autumn/Fall... maybe the situation will have improve then.  But thanks; I'll make a note of bedrock...
02:10.41DarwinElfi've said 'rm -rf /' a few times, but if you don't know what it is, don't try it, especially if you were hardcore enough to try a classic distro.  Of course, everyone makes the mistake once or twice, then finally learns they need to setup a non-root user...

06:38.35mishehugreets folks.  my distro ktown maintainer recently updated the ktown, and now konsole has usurped the alt+NUM keys to switch between konsole shells in the same window.  I want the older behavior that allowed that to be used by irsii.  Can somebody point me in the right direction if I can configure it? I don't find it in either konsole settings or the konsole profile settings.

20:31.54SpeakerToMeatQuestion, I want to do color management for my monitor, and if possible (crontab or something) change the monitor ddc profile and the color profile acoording to time. but the documentation I find with google is old, for kde 4.x using systems that seem to be deprecated... it seems I could use colord, but do I need colord-kde for this? because I use debian stable, and unstable is as far as I'd be willing to go and
20:31.56SpeakerToMeatcolord-kde is available only in experimental...

20:36.47SpeakerToMeatI do want a night mode, which will consist of a) changing the monitor's brightness via ddcutil b) loading an icc profile calibrated using that same brightness.
20:36.51jankusanagi_frankly, I don't see a problem for a Debian Sid user to get one package from Experimental

20:37.51SpeakerToMeatjankusanagi_: I could try this, but, colord-kde is required to hook kde to colord? or can I use colord alone, controlled via cli/crontab/etc ?
