08:17.51 | zub | morgen |
08:17.55 | woglinde | hi |
08:18.35 | zub | prtly off-topic, but... to clarify I understand it correctly |
08:18.54 | zub | if there's a static library, whose contents (the .o's inside) are stripped |
08:19.04 | zub | the library is then pretty much useless, right? |
08:19.11 | zub | (there are no symvols in the .o's) |
08:19.19 | woglinde | ????? |
08:19.31 | woglinde | strip removes debug and comment stuff mostly |
08:19.35 | woglinde | not the symbols self |
08:19.51 | zub | well, I've got some problems with meta-toolchain, but didn't still have enough timse to investigate completely |
08:20.28 | zub | I traced the problem down to odd libc.a - if I ar x libc.a, then nm elf_startup.o |
08:20.32 | zub | I get no symbols |
08:20.41 | pb_ | zub: yes, correct, stripping static libraries will generally make them useless. |
08:20.45 | zub | actualyl all the .o's in libc.a are stripped |
08:20.50 | zub | pb_: thanks |
08:21.07 | pb_ | you can ask strip to retain the symbol information, but this is not the default. |
08:21.13 | zub | ok |
08:21.21 | zub | so something causes this to be stripped in my setup |
08:21.30 | zub | jsut can't still tell more, as didn't have time to investogate |
08:21.36 | woglinde | hm I think koen did something with the static |
08:21.36 | pb_ | stripping .a files (or .o files) is useless anyway, since the resulting binaries will be stripped after compilation. |
08:21.58 | pb_ | did he? crazy koen |
08:22.29 | zub | also, I noticed there are dires like lib/something.a and lib/.debug/soemthing.a |
08:22.41 | zub | and in .debug the lib is ok, in /lib it's stripped |
08:22.52 | zub | (still being vague I know...) |
08:22.59 | woglinde | package bbclass: strip static libs as well |
08:23.12 | woglinde | 98a7d32826bc362c4ee434e7a4def7c852e75281 |

08:23.45 | zub | a funny thing is it works for me ok on box and doesn't on another one (tried complete rebuild on both) |
08:24.15 | zub | works = there are both stripped and non-stripped versions, but on one box the non-strepped one makes it into toolchain, on other the stripped one does |
