00:28:32hardwirefor instructions
00:29:53Dessimat0ra sample : If a medium gets inserted into this device, Opie will search it for any Documents which reside upon it. On large mediums, this may take some time. You can choose if Opie should scan for Documents globally, or on a per-medium basis. You can also reconfigure each medium individually.
00:30:14Dessimat0rbetter, eh? ;)
00:32:22jmhodgesroar

01:01:49Dessimat0rgn
01:03:22nasaWell, I have been trying the new prerelease -- pretty nice.  But a couple of bugs I have noticed.  Kergoth around to get the questions/report?
01:04:04ljpasything major?
01:04:21Onyx4|workI'm beginning to think that for some reason it does not call apm -s
01:04:25Onyx4|worklike my patch is not working...
01:04:34nasaWell a couple of apps are looking for imagecodecs & textcodes -- which don't seem to exist
01:05:05nasaAlso a couple of apps seem to have write permission problems
01:06:20nasaBut most of the apps (and I installed a lot) are working very well.
01:06:28ljpuser root?
01:06:35nasayes
01:07:57nasaOne app that isn't working is the addressbook.
01:08:40nasaAnd no java apps are working (and yes I installed jeod, which was made from the jeodcreator)
01:09:53Onyx4|workibot: message for Dessimat0r: try my libopie again please, I tried one last thing see if it works now
01:10:19nasaAnother good note -- tkc that I have work fine
01:10:32nasas/tkc apps/ tkc
01:11:26Onyx4|workyeah verx tested most of the tkc stuff and that seemed to work fine with OZ
01:11:46Onyx4|workdid you set your date?  the datebook app I had problems with it when I changed my date
01:12:00Onyx4|workbbl
01:12:05nasahmm..  No I haven't
01:12:17Onyx4|workok try to set your date, run datebook
01:13:37nasadatebook works fine -- it's addressbook that won't start
01:14:00chouimatsends zecke DateBook5 manual today, maybe Opie datebook will sucks less one day
01:14:34hardwiredamnit
01:14:43nasaaddressbook is also looking for imagecodecs...
01:14:45hardwirethe compressed cache uses x86 asm based compressors
01:29:47chouimatis bored
01:32:03ljpis hungry
01:32:32ljptv really sucls
01:32:37ljpsucks even
01:32:52kergothnasa: the codec messages are harmless
01:32:56kergothwanders back to the tv
01:33:00ljpha
01:33:05ljplooser
01:33:10ljp:D

01:34:51chouimatfinds that tonight sucks
01:35:30ljphey! I compiling opie on debian.. wooo .. I'm leet!
01:36:21ljpis hungry
01:36:45ljpwishes xine cvs would compile again

01:45:10chouimathmm I need a good books database systems
01:55:14hardwirecomp_cache.c: In function `__decompress_page':
01:55:14hardwirecomp_cache.c:553: unknown register name `%eax' in `asm'

01:59:23hardwireanybody know asm?
01:59:24hardwireheh
01:59:49nasaCool:  More bug reports for you. Addressbook fails to start.  I noted your message about codes not mattering, so the error message about 'undefined symbol: fields__80contract' must be importnat
02:00:05kergothsounds like the pim merges caused a problem
02:00:09kergothi'll backrev addressbook
02:00:29nasaok

02:01:36nasayeah
02:01:44nasaBetter than ever
02:01:47kergothgreat
02:02:19kergothokay i'm reverting addressbook now. then i need to make a change to the oz-base postinst to ensure the upgrade process is smooth.. then i await further bug reports. if i dont get any i'll release it.
02:02:31nasaoh, last problem I have noticed.  Java apps don't work (and yes I used the jeod from jeodcreater)
02:04:17kergothsomeone verified that jeode works, i suspect theres a flaw in jeodcreator
02:04:20kergothi'll take a look
02:04:35kergoth(the person that verified it works had extracted it manually)
02:05:03nasaok, overall this prerelease feels much more stable and responds much faster than previous releases
02:06:15nasaAnd I haven't seen ANY 'D' processes!
02:06:18ljpno probs with devices?
02:06:19kergothcongrats
02:06:24kergothshit
02:06:33kergothwho was it in here that reported a card that needs adding to pcmcia/config?

02:08:27ljperrmm meow
02:10:00nodaNow why on EARTH would they not put in a "start xterm" shortcut?
02:10:06nodaOr even "start konsole"
02:10:26ljpwhere?
02:10:27nodapresses Meta-x Meta-x Meta-x and only types "xxx" into xchat.

02:21:31chouimatnoda: blackbox sucks :)
02:21:43kergothnasa: this is with the latest image?
02:21:51nodachouimat: lol, it's given me less hassle and less wasted time than KDE :P
02:21:51nasaYes
02:21:56kergothcause that error looks like a wrong libopie version
02:21:58chouimatlistens to some Old Man's Child
02:22:00kergothmaybe its something fucked in my tree
02:22:02kergothwipes the opie dir

02:22:23nodachouimat: blackbox, for me, wastes less time.
02:22:37nodaWho can stand going and CLICKING somewhere to start an xterm? Or typing in a command?
02:22:50kergothhas been in console only for a few days now, and doesnt miss much

02:25:32nodaIs it anti-aliased?
02:25:33kergothits noticable

02:25:39kergothwhen i'm buliding a kernel
02:25:42kergothit scrolls by slower

03:18:54victorvdlI formated it as ext2, but OZ seems to automatically either remount or reformat it as fat after an eject and reinsertion.
03:21:21victorvdlDo I need to modify /etc/fstab, or fdisk the CF, or what?
03:25:32chouimat|B5victorvdl: did you put the partition as type 83?

13:10:40ljp-ummm anyone able to mount /mnt/card in the new prerelease?
14:04:58JasonNJsup dudes
14:06:18ljp_worksd doesnt mount here
14:06:26tux_mikelo jason
14:06:40scanlinehttp://picogui.org/download/fluidity_freetype.png
14:06:48scanlinefun with fonts :)
14:07:07tux_mikescanline.  not bad
14:07:27tux_mikehow much overhead?
14:07:35scanlineThere's still a bug in the bitmap font code, making the terminal characters spaced out too much
14:07:58tux_mikeone of the first things i noticed, but i sruged it off as being unicode :)
14:08:02scanlinetux_mike: about 1MB on disk for the fonts, haven't measured how much memory. No noticeable speed drop
14:08:31scanlineThe fonts could be slimmed down, but that's with a pretty good assortment
14:08:38ljp_workthose fonts are too cleanlooking for linux
14:08:48ljp_workwhere's the jaggy edges?
14:08:56scanlineIt's my own little blend of fonts from openoffice, ghostscript, and X11 :)
14:09:04ljp_worknice
14:09:24tux_mikeljp: and the uneven rendering
14:09:29ljp_workyou have picogui in a public cvs?
14:09:31scanlineThere are still seveal rather nasty bugs in it right now, but it's improving fast
14:09:34tux_mikescanline: how does your desktop look with those fonts?
14:09:38scanlineljp_work: yep
14:09:52scanlineMy desktop has your usual crappy X fonts :)
14:10:01scanlineI gave up on making X look nice long ago
14:10:24tux_mikeah
14:10:34tux_mikekde does a reasonable job
14:10:38tux_mikebut it still bites
14:11:10scanlineAlso, I haven't done any LCD-specific optimization to these fonts... I noticed freetype can do LCD rendering in either horizontal or vertical
14:11:34scanlineso on the zaurus or ipaq, in portrait mode you could still have a slight improvement in text quality, and in landscape mode you should be able to get awesome rendering
14:12:19ljp_workhmmm picogui on the vercel... ;)
14:12:38scanlineIt's 320x240 true color right?
14:12:49tux_mikei thought 16-bit.
14:12:53scanlineok
14:12:53jmhodgeshrm.. anyone else feel the need for more Greek letters?
14:12:55scanlineclose enough
14:13:24scanlinehas a free TrueType font with latin, greek, and cyrillic in Unicode.. only about 50k
14:13:27jmhodgesscanline: nice
14:13:33jmhodgesscanline: ooo?
14:13:44scanlinehttp://bibliofile.mc.duke.edu/gww/fonts/Caliban/index.html
14:13:54tux_mikehttp://www.news.scotsman.com/education.cfm?id=1129532002  god i hate peta
14:14:07jmhodgesscanline: thats one you made?
14:14:10scanlineno
14:14:29tux_mikei need some good unicode fonts with japanese characters in them
14:14:33scanlinejmhodges: but it's freely distributable under a license that looks to be GPL-compatible
14:14:47scanlineI haven't looked for a cjk unicode font yet
14:14:56jmhodgesscanline: cool :)
14:14:58jmhodgescjk ?
14:15:02scanlinethere's the GNU Unifont of course, but it's not scalable
14:15:08jmhodgesdunno much about fonts :/

14:15:13jmhodgesscanline: aaaah

14:19:24kergothJasonNJ: yeah. i'll upload the feed with the fixed ipks in a few
14:19:42tux_mikekerg: where is the data on the files in an ipkg that has already been installed kept?  i need to get neocal off my Z.
14:20:00jmhodgeskergoth: psst.. youve got confirmation on the atd problem Onyx4 was having (from me unfortunately)
14:20:08kergothtux_mike: /usr/lib/ipkg/info/
14:20:16kergothjmhodges: datetime hangs on OK?
14:20:28kergothtux_mike: or rather, /usr/lib/ipkg/status for status information
14:20:31jmhodgeskergoth: nope
14:20:41kergothjmhodges: then whats the behavior?
14:20:43jmhodgeskergoth: with me, the original time it had stays
14:20:50kergothjmhodges: is atd running?
14:20:55jmhodgeskergoth: but if i change it, it reverts back

14:21:29ljp_workkergoth: my sd wont mount. is there an update from the prerelease initrd.bin?
14:21:33kergothJasonNJ: not much we can do about it, unless you dont want to generate ssh keys :)
14:21:38kergothljp_work: yes. its fixed.
14:21:44kergothljp_work: buildign an image to test with now
14:21:46ljp_workwhich package?
14:21:48jmhodgeskergoth: its running
14:21:50numatrixkergoth: Sweet, you found the problem with it?
14:22:03kergothljp_work: the sd_slotstat device wasnt in the devices tarball in oz-base
14:22:08JasonNJkergoth: I'll work on getting a processor with an FPU
14:22:11kergothljp_work: so it'd work the first time you booted, and never again after a reboot
14:22:12ljp_workheh
14:22:14JasonNJlol
14:22:15kergothljp_work: :)
14:22:18numatrixkergoth: Hot dang, I actually guessed that at one point...

14:22:55kergothJasonNJ: built yesterday.
14:22:56kergothhey chouimat
14:23:18numatrixkergoth: I forgot to mention that to you when we were investigating that; I had looked in the strings for sdmgr and saw that it was trying to use sd_slotstat device and asked in the channel about it.
14:23:35numatrixkergoth: Sorry, could have saved you some time if I would have mentioned it again.
14:23:44kergothnumatrix: not a big deal, i shouldve seen it the first time.
14:23:49kergothits fixed now regardless.
14:24:15numatrixExcellent.  Are there any other outstanding issues?
14:24:25kergothnumatrix: supposedly ide suspend/resume issue is back
14:24:35numatrixLovely.
14:24:42kergothcan anyone in here reproduce it?
14:24:51kergothbecause i only have a 64mb card which never sees the issue
14:25:08numatrixkergoth: All I have is a 64mb CF card as well.
14:25:13kergothcurrently the ide suspend/resume is the only outstanding issue
14:25:20kergothand the time issue, that only certain people see
14:25:32DaJokerI've got a 128m here and don't see it
14:25:54kergothhrm
14:26:00kergothanyone with a 256?

14:26:34chouimatkergoth: send me 229$ CDN and I will test it :)
14:27:19numatrixkergoth: Is it supposed to eject/insert the CF card when I resume?
14:27:43prpplaguekergoth: howler at jeanne, i'm composing an the email now
14:28:05aguptakergoth did you get my message?
14:28:44numatrixkergoth: Looks like I may have just reproduced it...
14:29:03kergothnumatrix: no, the module is supposed to retain the card across suspend
14:29:07kergothnumatrix: it should *not* umount/mount
14:29:14kergothprpplague: will do
14:29:17kergothchouimat: hah, i wish
14:29:25kergothagupta: yes. the sd issues are fixed
14:29:32numatrixkergoth: Popped open a terminal, did a cd /mnt/cf; ls; and it works fine.  Suspend, resume, the cardctl app in the right ejects it, then inserts it, then the terminal halts.  When I rerun the terminal, and cd /mnt/cf; ls; it hangs.
14:29:41kergothnonono
14:29:44kergothpeople always confuse this
14:29:49kergothcardmon doesnt do anything
14:29:52kergothit just displays messages
14:29:52kergothheh
14:30:03numatrixok; well, it displayed the eject/insert message.  :-)
14:30:19kergothokay. hm. thats strange.
14:30:20JasonNJkergoth: I have to change the default feed to the unstable one, right
14:30:21kergothwhat should happen
14:30:28kergothis the card goes cardctl suspend, then cardctl resume'
14:30:28numatrixand now the device is completely hung.
14:30:32kergoth*not* eject/insert
14:30:46kergothJasonNJ: well, there is a feed for each of the prereleases
14:30:48numatrixafter cd /mnt/cf; ls; it's totally hung.
14:30:53kergothJasonNJ: which is why i havent messed with it
14:31:02numatrixcan't even use Cancel to suspend.
14:31:03kergothnumatrix: arg. it sounds like our patch to libopie didnt actually cause it to use apm
14:31:07kergothnumatrix: heres an idea
14:31:08kergothnumatrix: soft reset
14:31:11kergothnumatrix: when you're back up
14:31:18kergothnumatrix: run 'apm -s' to suspend, then resume, and test it again.
14:31:24numatrixkergoth: k
14:32:01numatrixkergoth: Would it make a difference if I was on power or battery?
14:32:07kergothnumatrix: not certain.
14:32:13kergothnumatrix: i've never reproduced this myself remember :)
14:32:16kergothis flying blind
14:32:35numatrixI'll leave it on battery for now then.
14:32:39kergotharg
14:32:47numatrixNifty; the storage medium question pops up first thing before opie even loads if you have a new CF card in.
14:32:53kergoth`mtgyep
14:32:55kergoth`mtgbbl
14:36:26numatrixok, kergoth: I duplicated the error one more time to verify it did hang, it did indeed hang, though this time not the whole device, just the konsole.  Then I did the apm -s and resumed.  The applet still showed the card ejected and a new ide device discovered and the device still hung when I did an ls /mnt/cf afterwards.
14:36:57AndyQ|workg
14:37:08AndyQ|workOops - sorry wrong window
14:39:33numatrixkergoth`mtg: Also; any plans to update openssh to 3.5?  BTW; if you ever make that doc on how to add to the buildroot, I'd love to help out in configuring and adding things.
14:39:34Dessimat0roh eyah, while my Z is in suspend, it is eating up batteries like mad
14:39:39Dessimat0rnot batteries
14:39:41Dessimat0rthe battery
14:39:41Dessimat0rlol
14:40:09Dessimat0rAt least, I believe it is
14:40:23Dessimat0rThey seem constantly drained
14:41:17numatrixDessimat0r: This is with OZ only or with the sharp rom as well?
14:41:49Dessimat0ronly with the latest build
14:42:08numatrixDessimat0r: so if you leave the device suspended over night it's drained?
14:42:18Dessimat0rYup, it was drained this morning
14:42:26Dessimat0rand I didn't have it on
14:42:31JasonNJthe new opie is pretty freakin impressive.
14:42:33numatrixDessimat0r: wierd; I haven't had any trouble leaving mine suspended overnight.
14:42:34Dessimat0rWell, it was almost drained
14:42:38JasonNJI like all the subtle things they added
14:42:40numatrixJasonNJ: yeah, there are so so many nice features.
14:42:54numatrixJasonNJ: like the preview window in appearances?
14:43:02Dessimat0rPerhaps it was after I applied Onyx4's patch
14:43:15Dessimat0rI reapplied a new one from him this morning
14:43:51JasonNJnuma: yeah that is neat
14:44:14JasonNJthe package manager is more stable although I still hate the UI
14:44:36JasonNJwhat I would like to see is something along the lines of what Windows XP has with the add/remove programs
14:45:47numatrixJasonNJ: I don't mind it that much, I'm sorta used to it, but it's a little to dependent on networking, imo.  I'd like to see it able to work better with local packages.
14:46:58AndyQ|worknumatrix: have you taken a look at aqpkg at all?
14:47:23ljp_workjasonNJ: have you tried aqpkg yet?
14:47:27ljp_workheh
14:47:32numatrixAndyQ|work: no, I was a little hesitant at first; wasn't that the one developed without a Z initially?
14:47:36JasonNJljp no
14:47:54JasonNJthe main problem is not knowing what each of the optional packages do
14:48:03JasonNJlike I wanna try some of that theme stuff
14:48:03AndyQ|workSort of, I've now got my Z back - tested loads (in fact  its the first thing that goes on :)
14:48:09ljp_workI found a bug in aqpkg: it wont let you reinstall, it always just removes
14:48:54Dessimat0ris something messed up with the ftp in the latest unstable OZ?
14:48:54ljp_workI use aqpkg now mostly
14:49:00AndyQ|workDoes it? - I'll take a look at that later (when I get home)
14:49:05Dessimat0rI can't seem to use it anymore
14:49:54Dessimat0rI think the loopback is missing
14:49:58Dessimat0rIt wasn't on ifconfig
14:50:23numatrixDessimat0r: yeah, somebody else was complaining about that.  I didn't have one at one point, but then later I did.
14:50:37Dessimat0rah
14:51:25nodaMoo!
14:51:30aguptakergoth`mtg still here?
14:51:44chouimatnoda: poo
14:52:12nodaHey, I got a nasty surprise this morning when I found that the image kergoth put up last night forgets my clock on suspend/resume...
14:52:21nodaHas that been fixed? Is it kernel or initrd?
14:52:56Dessimat0rit it possible to upgrade openzaurus without reflashing?
14:53:04numatrixDessimat0r: yes.
14:53:07Dessimat0rwithout using the internet in any way
14:53:11numatrixDessimat0r: just point it at a new feed and let it go.
14:53:13nodaDessimat0r: Not to OZ3... well, it *is* but don't do it :P
14:53:17nodaFrom 2.9.9.5
14:53:20nodaEr, 2.9.5.5
14:53:25Dessimat0rlol
14:53:26numatrixDessimat0r: Umm, I suppose if you duplicated the entire feed on a CF or SD card.
14:53:35Dessimat0rah
14:53:44numatrixDessimat0r: Without using the internet in anyway would be impossible since you need to download the new OZ at some point.  :-)
14:53:46nodaYou'd have to at least move all your devices and reformat your mntram partition.
14:53:52Dessimat0rlol ;)
14:53:57numatrixDessimat0r: And yes, it depends on which version you're moving from; 2.9.5.5 does not upgrade cleanly.
14:54:03Dessimat0rah
14:54:22numatrixagupta: He left for a meeting just a few minutes ago; no clue when he'll be back.
14:54:34Dessimat0rflashing looks like the thing to do then ;)
14:54:50nodaDefinitely. Just back up your /root partition and put it back when you're done the flash.
14:54:56nodaEverything will be saved :)
14:54:59Dessimat0rk
14:55:01Dessimat0r;)
14:55:08nodaEr, s/partition/directory/
14:55:08aguptanumatrix heard anything about the CF causing opie not to start or crash when inserted?
14:55:12Dessimat0rk
14:55:30numatrixagupta: Yeah.
14:55:33chouimatnumatrix: how big is the feed
14:55:41numatrixagupta: There have been some suspend/resume issues with CF that might be related.
14:55:49numatrixagupta: Though it's not the same exact issue...
14:56:11numatrixagupta: It does cause my Z to freeze; sometimes completely, sometimes just the terminal.
14:56:31Dessimat0rif you back up your root partition, then replace it, won't newer versions of Opie apps be replaced by the previous versions?
14:56:44nodaDessimat0r: Not your root partition; I meant your /root directory.
14:56:56nodaDessimat0r: It's your home directory with all your personal settings.
14:56:59numatrixchouimat: Dunno; about the size of all these added together: http://openzaurus.sourceforge.net/official/unstable/20021011_1237/feed/
14:57:31Dessimat0rah
14:57:34Dessimat0rk
15:05:09aguptanumatrix hmm, wonder what changed to cause that, its rather annoying
15:05:20kergoth`mtgagupta: cf causing opie to crash would be mediummount
15:05:28kergoth`mtgagupta: try removing the .opie* from /mnt/cf/
15:05:40kergoth`mtgagupta: we've hit that opie bug before, i thought they had fixed it
15:06:10nodakergoth: Hallo! :)
15:06:24chouimatkergoth: any fun at your meeting?
15:06:24Dessimat0rlo Kergoth
15:06:27nodakergoth: With the image/kernel you uploaded last night, my Z forgets what time it is on suspend/resume.
15:06:38kergothnoda: is atd runninG?
15:06:43kergothnoda: is the trigger there?
15:06:58nodakergoth: Um.
15:06:59Dessimat0rI haven't set my time yet, so I can't tell you if it has gained or lost any ;)
15:07:00aguptakergoth hmm, i see. how do i remove it without being able to go to console or into opie
15:07:12kergothagupta: um, this is easy
15:07:19nodaatd is running.
15:07:25kergothagupta: 1) rmeove card, 2) reboot, 3) run embeddedkonsole, 4) insert card
15:07:26nodaWhere do I find out if the trigger is there? What trigger? :)
15:07:31aguptakergoth it crashes
15:07:33kergothnoda: /var/spool/at*/trigger
15:07:35aguptaif i insert it, it dies
15:07:40kergothagupta: i thougth you said it crashes on *boot*
15:07:43aguptaif its already inserted when it starts opie, it dies
15:07:45aguptaboth
15:07:47kergothagupta: just *wait*
15:07:50agupta:)
15:07:55kergothits probably scannin the card for documents
15:07:56kergothor
15:07:59kergothits mediummount
15:08:03nodatrigger is there.
15:08:03kergothtry uinstalling mediummountgui
15:08:10aguptahmm k
15:08:28aguptai'll just disable medium mount
15:08:28nodakergoth: I think there was an atd message on bootup... I'll reboot and look for it :)
15:08:32kergothnoda: k
15:08:41agupta yep, that solved it
15:08:46aguptaits probably cuz i have so much shit on my CF
15:08:53aguptacool
15:08:57aguptaso sd issue is fixed?
15:09:38nodakergoth: Hrm, no error messages.
15:10:28numatrixkergoth: You get my response above?  apm -s does not fix the problem.
15:10:37aguptakergoth whats' causing the SD issue?
15:10:41aguptawas causing
15:11:32nodakergoth: Still has the problem.
15:11:46nodakergoth: If I reboot it remembers the time, but if I suspend it goes back to what it was when I rebooted.
15:13:31numatrixagupta: /dev/sd_slotstat wasn't in the new dev filesystem.
15:14:27nodakergoth: Only, the time in the lower-right of the screen (the applet) looks like it remembered the time. But when I go to change the time it has the bad time in there.
15:14:54aguptanumatrix ok
15:15:00aguptahow do i create it? mknod/
15:15:22chouimatwooot! my palmos plugin for kdevelop3 seems to work!
15:15:27kergothnoda: yes yes i know
15:15:31kergothnoda: whats happening is
15:15:31prpplaguekergoth: i cc'd you a copy of the email to jeanne
15:15:48kergothnoda: datetime isnt causing the system time to sync w/ hw time
15:15:59kergothnoda: either its failing to communicate with atd via the trigger, or atd isnt doing what it should
15:16:13nodakergoth: Sounds very not-fun :)
15:16:30kergothnoda: well, its too bad that atd is a huge piece of shit
15:16:30nodaSo it's either datetime or atd?
15:16:34nodaHeh
15:16:38kergothyes
15:16:39kergothhey
15:16:40kergothtry this
15:16:42kergothjust for shits
15:16:46kergothrun date
15:16:51kergothis it correct?
15:17:07kergothbtw guys, i've got a *shitload* of real work to do today
15:17:09nodaNope, it's wrong :)
15:17:13kergothso i wont be able to spend a lot of time on this stuff
15:17:15nodaBut I'll try *setting* it with 'date'...
15:17:21kergothyes, exactly
15:17:43ljp_workkergoth: you cant do real work.. these guys _need_ you !
15:18:03prpplaguekergoth: let me know if i forgot anything
15:21:20agupta"real work"
15:21:21aguptaheh
15:21:26aguptaso what else is borked in this prerelease
15:21:47nodaHey, I'm confused... the time right now (in seconds) is around 1034781699, right?
15:22:07aguptaphosphorus:~# date +%s
15:22:07agupta1034781722
15:22:23nodaOh, okay, I see what's going on. I tried using "date -s 1034781699" and it thought I was putting in a human-formatted date.
15:24:32ljp_workI tried date -wq that_cute_chick_down_the_hall but it didnt work
15:24:47ljp_workpermission denied
15:24:51jmhodgeshehe
15:24:52nodausing "date -s" doesn't fix the time either.
15:27:46chouimatkergoth: did push the change for qte beta2?
15:29:23NetNut404_workI still can't get my Z to get its wireles ip via dhcp  ..  what packages are neccessary?
15:30:41oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
15:30:41plastikibot oz prerelease
15:30:59kergothchouimat: doing a bk -r diffs now
15:31:24AndyQljp_work: Question about aqpkg reinstall - were you trying to reinstall the same version as was already installed?
15:32:06kergothchouimat: bk pull
15:32:58ljp_workandy: yes
15:33:02chouimatkergoth: uic <-static?
15:33:08kergothchouimat: not yet :)
15:33:20AndyQAh - not a bug then - a feature :) Currently you can only re-install a package with a different version
15:33:34chouimatkergoth: will  just change it for mine then :)
15:33:41ljp_work-force-reinstall
15:33:49AndyQThat was actually an original design feature before I decided that you may actually want to do this
15:34:18kergothAndyQ: you're hte aqpkg guy?
15:34:20AndyQIt is something on my list of things to do but I'm not sure of the best way to do this yet
15:34:27AndyQkergoth: yes
15:34:42kergothAndyQ: well good, now i know who to pester when i start playing with it: )
15:34:46AndyQ:)
15:35:01AndyQducks very quickly
15:36:03ljp_workaqpkg is very nice, I havent tried it with feeds. though
15:36:25AndyQit works with the unstable feed and the zz feed - there is a bug somewhere in that with the
15:37:00AndyQdefault ipkg.conf file, first run it removes all entries except the current one
15:37:23AndyQany entries you add after that are fine - gonna try and fix that tonight (and look at the reinstall)
15:38:48AndyQkergoth: is the current prerelease worth flashing to?
15:39:04AndyQor should I wait a bit?
15:39:13nodaAndyQ: It forgets the time on suspend/resume :(
15:39:17kergothAndyQ: wait a bit. im working another another now
15:39:22kergothnoda: its random.
15:39:23AndyQkergoth: 'kay
15:39:26kergothnoda: mine works fine
15:39:32nodakergoth: Really? Maybe it's the kernel I put in?
15:39:33nodaIs that possible?
15:39:37kergothnoda: in other words, its not something introduced recently
15:39:46kergothkernel config hasnt changed with regard to anything but the NLS entries
15:39:51nodaHrm...
15:40:01nodaI still have that nls thing even after installing the later kernel, btw.
15:40:06kergothi know
15:40:15kergothi hadnt rebuilt the kernel after my bk pull
15:40:16kergoth:)
15:40:19nodaAh :)
15:40:20kergothjuggling a few bk trees
15:40:40nodaOoh, I know what I want to do today! I'm gonna try to compile with gcc3.
15:40:42hmmm... xcompile is just get ftp://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/pub/armlinux/toolchain/cross-2.95.3.tar.bz2 , un-tarbz2 in /usr/local/arm and set PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/arm/2.95.3/bin and you're set! much better than the zauruszone howto setup (faster, cleaner, newer, works with more source) or ftp://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/pub/armlinux/toolchain/cross-3.2.tar.bz2 or be sure and read the install notes
15:40:42nodaibot xcompile
15:40:53kergothnoda: i hear that 3.2 toolchain sucks.
15:41:06nodakergoth: Oh...
15:41:12nodaHow so?
15:43:35kergothnot certain on the etails
15:43:37kergothdetails
15:43:46kergothit doesnt have the libelf fix to allow prelinking
15:43:48kergothdunno beyond that
15:43:49kergothask harlekin
15:43:58nodaOh :)
15:44:21nodaBah, I'm gonna try anyway - fixing compile issues will help out later on anyway (if there are any)
15:44:30kergothcool
15:47:56NetNut404_workI still can't get my Z to get its wireles ip via dhcp  ..  what packages are neccessary?
15:48:20kergoth NetNut404_work: what packages? all you need is busybox and pcmcia-cs, and ifupdown
15:48:32kergothand ifupdown is only required for some configurations
15:48:47NetNut404_workhmm then why won't it grap it's ip via dhcp
15:48:52kergothhow should i know?
15:48:54kergoth!= psychic
15:48:55kergothheh
15:48:59kergothmine works
15:49:00kergothwhat rom?
15:49:14aguptayou aren't?!?!?
15:50:22nodakergoth: Do you think if I re-flashed my problems with time will simply go away?
15:50:37NetNut404_workhmmm very weird.. comes up with no ip.. I have to run ifconfig to assign it one
15:51:23kergothnoda: i dont know.
15:55:13JasonNJI'm really liking this new OPIE
15:56:23ljp_worknice, eh?
15:58:07JasonNJhow do you install picogui and X?
15:58:27it has been said that oz picogui is http://openzaurus.sourceforge.net/unofficial/experimental/picogui/ - install them, kill opie, and run "pgserver" or see "picogui faq" or really experimental still (see "picogui bugs")
15:58:27scanlineibot: oz picogui?
15:59:36scanlinedefinitely experimental :)
16:00:01JasonNJis opieplayer on the feed?
16:00:01scanlineI'm not sure if there are binaries up for X yet, but there are packages for it in buildroot now
16:01:02chouimatwant a valgrind-like app for ARM
16:01:25scanlinechouimat: heh, that would rock
16:01:49DaJokerJasonNJ: http://www.tjhsst.edu/~agupta/tinyx/
16:01:52scanlinechouimat: even better if you had a valgrind that simulated an ARM but ran on x86, so you could use faster hardware
16:01:54DaJokernot recent builds, but they work
16:02:09chouimatscanline: maybe we can hack something, using ARMulator for gdb
16:02:27chouimats/for/from
16:02:39scanlinehmm
16:02:57scanlineor just add strict alignment checking and such to valgrind, so it isn't as lenient as an x86 is
16:03:08markalright, I just flashed to a 20-12 zImage, and now I have only 20Meg RAM but that 12M seems to have dissapeared...
16:03:42chouimatscanline: I have seen the 1.1.0 snapshot of valgrind (heavy internal modification)
16:03:46kergothmark: didnt full reset?
16:04:19markkergoth: hmm, i think I did, its got the new initrd.bin etc, I'll do it though
16:04:34kergothmark: what initrd.bin?
16:04:57markkergoth: the one I put on my CF to install :)
16:05:14kergothmark: nono, what version
16:05:36scanlineeverybody's a comedian...
16:05:42scanlinePicoBot: yow
16:05:42PicoBotIf our behavior is strict, we do not need fun!
16:05:50markkergoth: that one http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
16:06:03OKAY!!  Turn on the sound ONLY for TRYNEL CARPETING, FULLY-EQUIPPED R.V.'S and FLOATATION SYSTEMS!!
16:06:03chouimatibot be zippy
16:06:03kergothmark: well, iknow theres no bugs regarding mtdram in that one
16:06:11scanlinePicoBot: yow
16:06:12PicoBotYOW!!  Everybody out of the GENETIC POOL!
16:06:23chouimatPicoBot: yow

16:06:37chouimatPicoBot: yow
16:06:37PicoBotA dwarf is passing out somewhere in Detroit!
16:07:17markkergoth: ah okay, anything I can do?
16:07:46chouimatmark: yup bring me a Pizza
16:07:56scanlinemakes some more coffee
16:08:36nodalol, this cross-3.2 isn't working out too well :P "ls: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/local/arm/lib/librt.so.1: ELF file OS ABI invalid"
16:08:46markchouimat: could be cold by the time it gets to you
16:09:27chouimatmark: hehe
16:10:00NetNut404_workso is there a working email program yet?
16:10:20kergothnoda: did you untar it from /?
16:10:24DaJokerNetNut404_work: will be right after you write it :)
16:10:26nodakergoth: Yep
16:10:26kergothnoda: you must be in / when you extract it
16:10:28kergothah
16:10:31kergoththat sucks
16:10:36nodakergoth: I installed it properly, just messing up my libraries...
16:10:41NetNut404_worklol
16:10:48nodaI guess /usr/local/arm/lib is the arm-linux version of the libs?
16:10:52NetNut404_workDaJoker:  That would be never
16:11:04noda'cuz my /lib is definitely gcc-3.2.
16:11:08nodaAnd it works :P
16:12:11JasonNJhow do you change the background graphic? Its not in appearance
16:12:24kergothJasonNJ: launcher settings
16:12:34kergothJasonNJ: you can edsit it on a per tab basis, or for all the tabs
16:13:00Onyx4hey kergoth
16:13:18kergothOnyx4: you want to work on the suspend/resume issue? i doubt i'll have time today
16:13:22kergothits looking to be a busy day
16:13:28nodalol. checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs.
16:13:29Onyx4here are the 4 issues whne upgrading
16:13:51Onyx4the /dev/pts symlink still points at /mnt/devpts when it's mounted on /dev/pts now
16:13:55kergothno
16:13:59kergothits not mounted on /dev/pts
16:14:04kergothheh
16:14:10Onyx4well my script that I looked had that in
16:14:16kergothit mounts on /dev/pts
16:14:17kergothBUT
16:14:21kergoththats a symlink
16:14:24Onyx4basically I could not login
16:14:24kergothso it really mounts on /mnt/devpts
16:14:50Onyx42nd issue is that for some reason, both dhcpcd and udhcpc were running
16:14:57Onyx4since I didn't uninstall dhcpcd during upgrade
16:15:00kergothwell
16:15:03Onyx4I can look at that one
16:15:05kergothyou did the dhcp stuff, you take it
16:15:06kergothyeah
16:15:11kergothbtw
16:15:14kergothben's new networksetup app rocks
16:15:24Onyx43rd, ifupdown doesn't call the postinst of hotplug , not sure if you pushed that change
16:15:24kergothit doesnt work.. but the bugs are minor, i'm sure we can fix them
16:15:30aguptaGAH!
16:15:40kergoth3 never got pushed, i'll do that now
16:15:51Onyx4and there's the apm issue, but I need to confirm wheter or not it's still there cause only dessimator told it to me
16:16:01kergothk
16:16:02Onyx4that's it for now, the rest of the upgrade went smooth
16:16:04kergothwell
16:16:13kergothnumatrix reported suspend/resume issues with his ide cf card
16:16:18Onyx4oh and you know when opie-base install hangs for like 15 minutes
16:16:20kergothwork with him on it, if you would
16:16:25Onyx4if you do a sync in another window , it unfreezes it
16:16:25kergothyeah, thats our shitty ass jffs2
16:16:28kergothhah
16:16:34kergothnot surprising, but good to know
16:16:43Onyx4so I don't know if that means we should use sync by default on jffs2
16:16:54Onyx4not to use the mem cache
16:16:59markOnyx4: whats the dhcp client on the Z?
16:17:04kergothOnyx4: want to try adding sync to its mount options and see if the upgrade doesnt hang?
16:17:08Onyx4mark: both udhcpc and dhcpcd are available
16:17:14kergothmark: new oz uses udhcpc, old uses dhcpcd. its your call
16:17:18Onyx4kergoth: I can try yeah
16:17:29kergoththanks
16:17:37kergothive got too mucch shit to do today
16:17:43kergothlots of work related stuff so i dont get fired
16:17:43kergoth:)
16:18:00Onyx4yeah same here, so I'll work on it tonight
16:18:05markkergoth, Onyx4: okay
16:18:14markif this takes ages dsomething is wrong yeh? :)
16:19:45kergothif what takes ages?
16:20:05markudhcpc -i eth0
16:20:09Dessimat0rwheer can I get the latest unstable opie-mediaplayer2?
16:20:10aguptasigh
16:20:12aguptathis sucks
16:20:19JasonNJdang that appearance and launcher settings apps are cool
16:20:26kergothJasonNJ: thank sandman
16:20:27Dessimat0r* where
16:20:40JasonNJyeah I dont see mediaplayer2 on the unstable feed for the 15th
16:20:44Onyx4kergoth: I think that the problem is that devpts gets mounted when the ramdisk is not yet extracted right
16:20:52kergothJasonNJ: opieplayer2 isnt built by the buildroot yet
16:20:56Onyx4so it will mount it on the old location since the dev table is not updated?
16:21:07Dessimat0rah
16:21:10kergothOnyx4: it fails to create the /dev/pts -> /mnt/devpts symlink
16:21:16kergothOnyx4: because its a dir with something mounted on it
16:21:24Onyx4I got an error message I think during the install
16:21:31kergothOnyx4: what do you think, preinst unmount pts, rm -rf /dev/pts, create link?
16:21:39kergothOnyx4: or on bootup check for it?
16:21:46JasonNJthis is weird, teh opiemail2 app doesnt launch from the launcher but it does launch from the email button
16:21:58kergothOnyx4: bootup is safer because pts wont be in use at the time
16:22:08nodaJasonNJ: opiemail2 is weird :)
16:22:22JasonNJopiemail2 doesnt support POP3 either
16:22:24JasonNJthats annoying
16:22:43kergothJasonNJ: its being rewritten
16:22:48kergothJasonNJ: already under way
16:23:05Onyx4kergoth: yeah
16:23:07Onyx4kergoth: bootup
16:23:11JasonNJthat network applet is cool
16:23:19JasonNJit needs to show all detected AP's though
16:23:22JasonNJfor doing warwalking
16:23:39JasonNJlike it needs a warwalking scanner mode
16:23:44Onyx4also we need a way to convert /tmp
16:23:48Onyx4to /var ramdisk
16:24:07Onyx4I was able to do it only when I killed ssh since ssh uses stuff in /tmp
16:24:16Onyx4had tu umount /tmp ; ln -s /var/tmp /tmp
16:24:27chouimatwe need a datebook5 like app for Opie
16:24:34Onyx4and get rid of the entry in fstab (or overwrite fstab)
16:24:56kergothJasonNJ: ben's networksetup app is cool
16:24:58kergothJasonNJ: i'm testing it now
16:25:10chouimatkergoth: screenshot?
16:25:19kergothchouimat: ask ben
16:25:25kergothi've got too mjuch shit on my plate right now
16:25:44kergothOnyx4: removing that line in fstab will be hard without sed
16:26:36kergothOnyx4: in extractfs, lets deal with the /tmp transition, and deal with the devpts transition in the devpts startup script. i.e. 1) check whether the transition is necessary, 2) do necessary steps
16:26:40Onyx4yeah... well I would not worry too much about it, if the user removes it manually tough I'd like to see a transition
16:26:48Onyx4so we check if it's mounted, if not then we transit
16:27:02kergoththat works
16:27:09kergothhaving /tmp its own ramdisk isnt a huge deal anyway
16:27:13Onyx4right
16:27:16kergothdevpts has to happen though.
16:27:20kergothcause thats critical
16:27:21Onyx4yep
16:27:43kergothokay i committed the 3rd of your 4 items.
16:27:51Onyx4I think I'll remove ide.opts from the list of config files
16:28:00kergothwhy?
16:28:03Onyx4cause the defaults in the previous version might not be right
16:28:22Onyx4I'll check more on that
16:28:51chouimatkergoth: I did a compile of buildroot yesterday and /mnt/ram won't mount even manualy. using 26-6 kernel
16:30:07kergothchouimat: works flawless here.
16:30:22kergothchouimat: is there an entry for it in fstab?
16:30:36chouimatkergoth: yes
16:30:44kergoththen it didnt get formatted
16:30:47kergothsounds like you didnt full reset
16:30:59kergothand what error is outputted when you try to mount itt manually?
16:31:01chouimatkergoth: I reflashed
16:31:19chouimatPermission denied
16:31:33kergoth?
16:31:37kergothwell
16:31:39kergoththe prerelease on sf
16:31:42kergothis built from buildroot
16:31:46kergothso i dunno what to tell you
16:31:46chouimatkergoth: I'm root
16:31:46kergothheh
16:32:57Onyx4device permissions?
16:33:13chouimatmtdblock6?
16:33:19kergothyep
16:33:20kergothmtdblock6
16:33:29chouimatrw-r----
16:33:32kergothit should be root:disk, 664
16:33:44Dessimat0ribot airport Manchester Airport
16:33:44Dessimat0r: That doesn't look right. Try 'airport code for CITY' or 'airport name for CODE' instead.
16:34:16chouimatkergoth: root:root 640
16:34:36chouimatDaJoker: ping
16:35:30kergothchouimat: well
16:35:36kergothchouimat: root can still mount it with 640
16:35:41kergothchouimat: so i dont get it
16:35:48markdoes the ZZ feed work alright with OZ?
16:35:55kergothmark: no
16:35:55chouimatkergoth:  major/minro 31,0?
16:36:07kergothchouimat: arg, no.. wtf?
16:36:09kergothjesus
16:36:12kergothexplodes
16:36:30Onyx4kergoth: is it possible that it's not pcmcia that started udhcpc, but that ifup -a turned up wlan0 and started dhcp? :)
16:36:37markkergoth: it try to install qpe-base or something?
16:36:43chouimatkergoth: updating
16:36:46kergothOnyx4: no.
16:36:58kergothOnyx4: pcmcia-cs either runs its own shit *or* ifup, not both
16:37:09Onyx4well don't we call ifup on boot?
16:37:14kergothhuh?
16:37:22kergothwlan interfaces are brought up by pcmcia-cs
16:37:27kergothnot the startup scripts
16:37:37kergothusbd is brought up by hotplug, not the startup scripts
16:37:42kergoththe only thing that needs 'auto' is lo
16:38:18Onyx4ok gotcha...mmm
16:39:22Onyx4well let me know when you fix the devpts oz-base so I can upgrade and test it
16:39:38Onyx4then I'll be able to login with ssh and look at the dhcp stuff heh
16:42:24markgah, my Z has frozen
16:43:28prpplaguemark: put it in the oven
16:43:30ljp_workstick it in the oven
16:44:15markhady ha
16:44:23ljp_workhey
16:44:40ljp_workI guess great minds think alike! ;)
16:44:54markljp_work: ur jokes are getting worse
16:45:12ljp_workI;m not the only one to say that though
16:47:12kergothOnyx4: devpts fixed. pushing now
16:54:09Onyx4ok, I actually found that the all that's needed to support ipupdown for pcmcia is to get the right things inside network.opts
16:54:16Onyx4no modifs to just "network"
16:54:39Onyx4so I'm not sure if ben's app will put the things in there or is gonna expect the stuff to be already present and just modify it
16:54:54Onyx4in any case, I'll update the default network.opts to be ifupdown compatible
16:55:25kergoth?
16:55:27kergothheh
16:55:34kergothben's app currently doesnt do network.opts parsing
16:55:36kergothjust interfaces
16:55:42Onyx4look at install-etc in build/pcmcia-cs/etc
16:55:49kergothyep
16:55:50kergothi know
16:55:53kergothmake the change
16:55:58kergothwe need the network.opts addition
16:56:01Onyx4ok cool
16:56:20kergothfuck me
16:56:27kergothchouimat: mine fails in the same way, nice catch
16:56:36kergothchouimat: weird thing is, i still cant mount even with chmod 777 the device
16:59:52kergothfuck
16:59:57kergothwhy wont it mount?
16:59:58kergotharg
17:00:13it has been said that oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
17:00:13killefiz_ibot: oz prerelease
17:06:49markljp_work: advancedfm is crashing it it seems
17:07:59markor is ther ejust something funny up with /tmp?
17:08:38kergoth /tmp is a ramdisk, or a symlink into a ramdisk
17:08:40kergothnothing special
17:09:27NetNut404_workso this is very odd.. a couple of times after using the wireles lan for a while the nick will get it's ip via dhcp (when it would not before)
17:09:41markkergoth: oipkg is refusing to open something in /var/tmp/
17:09:53Onyx4kergoth I got an invalid argument trying to umount /dev/pts
17:10:00Onyx4so it still does not work
17:10:03kergothOnyx4: ?
17:10:08kergothOnyx4: oh
17:10:10Onyx4the new oz-base
17:10:11kergothOnyx4: i know what that bug is
17:10:21kergothOnyx4: its following the link back to /mnt/devpts
17:10:30kergothhrm
17:10:35hardwireemail from boss:
17:10:37hardwireThey need you to call system is down
17:10:40hardwireresponds by turning up system of the down
17:10:48kergothi wonder how it handles unmount of items that arent in fstab
17:10:50kergothponders
17:10:56markhardwire: go on then :P
17:11:07hardwireheh
17:13:09AndyQljp_work: would you expect ipkg --force-reinstall install <package> to come back with package is up-to-date
17:13:23AndyQljp_work: and not re-install? coz that is what ipkg is doing
17:13:24kergothAndyQ: only if installing from a feed
17:13:39kergother
17:13:43kergothnevermind
17:13:45kergothits just an ipkg bug
17:13:47kergothheh
17:13:53kergothyou should have a gui to facilitate it regardless
17:14:02AndyQkergoth: ahh, so if you re-install from a local ipk then it should re-install?
17:14:08chouimatDaJoker: ping
17:14:29kergothAndyQ: actually. ipkg install will install a local ipk regardless of its version
17:14:35kergothAndyQ: you dont need -force-reinstall for that
17:14:55kergothAndyQ: -force-reinstall is only meaningfull when dealing with a feed, and in that situation its broken :)
17:16:09AndyQkergoth: ok, gui is updated (not committed - more testing...) - not a brilliant solution but better than nothing for the moment
17:16:26kergothAndyQ: okay, cool. i'll pester  jamey some more for the fix :)
17:17:00AndyQkergoth: cheers :)
17:17:28kergothAndyQ: so where does aqpkg stand in featureset atm as opposed to oipkg? i get the impression from users that its less feature rich atm
17:18:02kergothhasnt tried it yet ;)
17:18:53kergothbrb
17:20:51AndyQkergoth: Well, it supports pretty much most things: - installing from feeds, local ipkgs, downloading ipkgs to Z, (and removing them)
17:21:18AndyQkergoth: Not sure what I've missed functionality wise - just gonna compare with oipkg...
17:21:40mark: what?
17:21:40markibot: aqpkg
17:22:24AndyQkergoth: OK, can't search for a package and no filtering (not sure if thats useful though)
17:22:46AndyQkergoth: One thing I do want to add is the ability to jump to packages starting with a letter
17:23:04AndyQkergoth: i.e. click p and jumps to packages that start with p
17:23:21numatrix|lunchis away: I'm not here.
17:23:24AndyQkergoth: Thats it. Anything else that should be there?
17:23:27numatrixis back (gone 00:00:02)
17:23:43kergothAndyQ: is there a button to upgrade all packages to the latest version (aka run ipkg upgrade)?
17:23:46numatrixan equivalent for ipkg upgrade; ?  (upgrade all packges)
17:23:47numatrix;-)
17:23:49kergothAndyQ: cause that feature lack in oipkg pisses me off
17:23:50kergothhehe
17:24:06numatrixYeah; that's the one real bit that the gui lacks.
17:24:17markAndyQ: aqpkg work fine on OZ?
17:24:24kergothmark: why wouldnt it?
17:24:25kergothheh
17:24:29AndyQmark: yes
17:25:49markkergoth: just making sure :P
17:25:56AndyQkergoth: Um, not yet
17:27:11AndyQkergoth: actually, you can do something similar, select the local view and highlight which packages you wish to upgrade
17:27:22AndyQkergoth: local view shows you only the packages you've got installed
17:27:41numatrixAndyQ: and you can do multiple ones at once?
17:27:46AndyQit would be pretty easy to add a select all button
17:27:51AndyQnumatrix: yes
17:28:16numatrixExcellent.  Though it might be simpler to add the ipkg upgrade; and let ipkg handle the upgrade of all of them itself.
17:28:27markright, aqpkg has failed installing konq saying 'failed to link ...'
17:29:06AndyQnumatrix - that would possibly be better - but I thought you should shut Opie down before doing an ipkg upgrade?
17:29:18numatrixAndyQ: Sometimes, not necessarily.
17:29:21AndyQmark: bit more detail error wise?
17:29:30markAndyQ: I'll get it, one sec
17:29:34mark(oipkg was bombing with this too)
17:29:44AndyQnumatrix: OK, I'll add that
17:30:01numatrixAndyQ: cool; you might add a warning that upgrading opie while it's running is not recommended.
17:30:16numatrixkergoth: What were the other situations where shutting down opie was recommended?  I don't remember.
17:30:33AndyQnumatrix: :)
17:30:35markah,  'ipkg_conf_write_status_file: Can't open  /sur/lib/ipkg/status for writing :No space left on device'
17:30:51marki have 84k there
17:31:12AndyQmark: rm -r /*.* :)
17:31:38kollamake space
17:31:40AndyQmark: then reflash and loads of space
17:31:47marki've got 84k. should be enough no?
17:31:58kollaanyways.. why do you have a /sur?
17:32:05mark /usr :)
17:32:25kollaprobably the 84k left is bogus
17:32:39markalright, rebooting,
17:32:54kollaor the status file of yuurs is too big
17:33:00kollayours even
17:34:48markokay
17:35:03markhmm, removing task-opie-games doesn't remove all the games it installed,
17:35:42numatrixmark: Nope; the tasks force other things to be installed as requirements, but when you uninstall a program, the requirements for it aren't uninstalled, and shouldn't be.
17:36:14marknumatrix: agreed, it seems quite counter intuitive for task-* though
17:36:25killefizis there a fix/workaround for oz not mounting my sd card when it's inserted? manually mounting it works
17:37:10markAndyQ: alright, 'Failed to link /mnt/ram/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/konqueror to //opt/QtPalmtop/bin/konqueror'
17:37:36DaJokerchouimat: pong
17:37:39markAndyQ: i'm also getting 'Failed to link /mnt/ram/. to //.'
17:38:32mrz80Any particular reason why, on the 101502 initrd.bin and zImage-40-24 it won't mount the ramdisk?  Attempting to mount /dev/mtdblock6 /mnt/ram gives me "permission denied" (and yes, I *am* root :-) )
17:38:51markAndyQ: forget that, its coz i already have a konqueror there :)
17:39:55AndyQmark: forgotten
17:41:34chouimat|eatDaJoker: can you test the cf reader?
17:42:32DaJokerchouimat|eat: well.. I suppose I could.. if I had the driver setup in my kernel
17:43:17markAndyQ: the 'failed to link /mnt/ram/. to //.' is real though
17:43:28chouimat|eatDaJoker: do you have cdrecord ?
17:43:51DaJokerchouimat|eat: yup
17:44:01chouimat|eatDaJoker: just do cdrecord -scanbus
17:44:47DaJokerscsibus0:
17:44:47DaJoker0,0,0  0) 'General ' 'Flash Disk Drive' '2.05' Removable Disk
17:44:55markkergoth: using konq/e, console error: INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel'
17:45:08chouimat|eatDaJoker: no multiple lun?
17:45:45DaJokerchouimat|eat: doesn't appear to be..
17:45:53chouimat|eatDaJoker: ok
17:46:04DaJokerdon't know if I have that on in the kernel though to probe multiple
17:46:29chouimat|eatdja
17:46:36chouimat|eatDaJoker: thanks
17:46:58DaJokerin fact, I don't have that turned on..
17:48:02chouimat|eatDaJoker: ok
17:48:10markkergoth: dc, did you get that?
17:48:20DaJokerchouimat|eat: will recompile and reboot after a few..
17:49:03DaJokeranyone happen to use WEP and wireless on their Z?
17:49:09AndyQmark: hmm, not sure where did are you installing kong from? (which version of OZ are you using as well?)
17:50:02markAndyQ: latest prerelease, a konq i found kicking about in my ~ :/
17:50:38AndyQAny idea where it came from (so I can try installing it on my Z)?
17:50:49numatrixkergoth: Are you planning on putting up a new build soon?
17:53:53numatrixkillefiz: try making /dev/sd_slotstat with mknod and then doing an /etc/init.d/sd start; /etc/init.d/sd start;
17:54:19numatrixDaJoker: I'm not now, but I have in the past.
17:54:36DaJokernumatrix: any issues with it?
17:55:04killefiznumatrix: what is the major/minor of /dev/sd_slotstat?
17:55:08numatrixDaJoker: it's finicky about how you enter the WEP key--I forget whether it was case-sensitive, or something else, but there was something wierd about how you had to enter it.  Other than that, it worked (this was with sharp rom)
17:55:24DaJokernumatrix: every try it on oz?
17:55:31numatrixDaJoker: nope
17:56:04chouimatI need a beer
17:56:30numatrixkillefiz: one sec; I haven't actually done it yet; kergoth incorporated it into his fixes he'll be pushing
18:06:37AndyQnumatrix: What happens if you've installed a load of packages from one feed and ipkg upgrade from another feed?
18:07:46kollafunny quite message form someone nicked mr z80 :)
18:07:50kollaquit
18:07:55kollafrom
18:08:40NetNut404_workhmmm the dat and time in the Z keep jumping back to jan 1 2002
18:08:48NetNut404_worker date
18:09:25kollayes, silly design flaw imo
18:10:05NetNut404_workdesign flaw?
18:10:40NetNut404_workyou mean you can't get around that?  I never had the problem before I switched to openzaurus
18:11:59DaJokerchouimat: ok.. just rebooted into kernel with probe multiple lun turned on..
18:12:03NetNut404_workif that's the case it seems pretty usless are reminding you of appointments
18:12:11DaJokerand was able to mount my mmc card, no problem..
18:12:35aguptakergoth you there?
18:12:39aguptaOnyx4: ?
18:12:47aguptahow do i get my SD to work on the old prerelease
18:12:55aguptai need to create /dev/sd_slotstat or something/
18:13:07chouimatDaJoker: the SD is on? /dev/sd?
18:13:14DaJokerchouimat: turns up with 3 devices:  sda = cf, sdb = smartmedia, sdc = mmc/sd
18:13:30NetNut404_workwhat is the reson/cause for the time/date jumping back to jan 1 2002 all the time ?
18:13:39chouimatDaJoker: thanks. will go buy the 6in1 this week
18:13:55aguptaNetNut404_work some bug, its been worked on
18:14:39NetNut404_workdoes that mean there is a solution in sight?
18:15:14TheMasterMind2not sure, i haven't been around. they might have figured it out
18:16:23NetNut404_workhmm seems like a critical bug to me.. had to make appointments when you don't know what day it is LOL
18:16:59NetNut404_workhow do find out/who should I ask about the status of the bug?
18:18:18TheMasterMind2ask kergoth
18:18:43TheMasterMind2cept he's not around
18:20:59TheMasterMind2numatrix whats going on with the atd thing?
18:21:07kollaNetNut404_work: what I meant is that I think it's a design flaw that the clock stuff is relying on software to work correctly
18:22:03kollaespecially on a device you want ot use for alarms and calendar
18:22:50NetNut404_workyeah that makes sense.. it's crutial to have the time/date stay correct
18:25:23markis away: I'm busy
18:31:32killefiznumatrix: i tried a major/minor combination i found in my backlog - didn't help. Still no sd automount.
18:39:51ciaolinuxwhere can i find qpe-base?
18:40:08AndyQopens nice cool beer - mmmmmm
18:44:26numatrixkillefiz: Sorry, been away for a few minutes.  Without flashing back to a much earlier sharp rom, I can't tell you offhand, all I know is that sdmgr won't load because that device is missing which was a result of the move of the dev file system in the recent OZ builds, but kergoth fixed it in whatever development build he is working on now.
18:45:19numatrixkillefiz: try killing klogd and syslogd, rerun them without the silence options they have by default, then run sdmgr and see if you get the No such file or directory error in /var/log/messages if you made the device.  Maybe there was another problem.
18:46:34killefizis it that the /dev directory is created new on every reboot?
18:47:22numatrixkillefiz: that could be part of it; kergoth can tell you exactly how he fixed it whenever he gets back.
18:48:10killefizthere is a /boot/dev.tar - i'll try fixing the sd_slotstat in that tarball
18:49:29numatrixkillefiz: if that doesn't work try the steps I outlined above; see if sdmgr is still failing with the same issue.
18:49:45AndyQAnyone any idea when upgrading some packages (i.e. pcmcia-cs) it takes f'kin ages
18:50:26AndyQI think it does it eventually but I got bored and killed the upgrade :)
18:56:14killefiznumatrix: changing dev.tar solved it - thanks
18:56:50killefizfirst time in two months that i have a working zaurus
18:57:40ciaolinuxnumatrix: i have a similar problem.. if i suspend the Z, it will unmount my SD card, and the only way to use it is to phisically eject it and then replace it... any reason ?
18:58:34kollathat eject on suspend is evil
18:59:03ciaolinuxkolla: did you get the same problem? i am experiencing the same thing with both opie and the sharp rom
18:59:16kollalike when I play music off my CF card and suspend occure.. when I wake it app the player hangs there
18:59:49kollawhen I wake it up, the player hangs
19:00:06kollamost often it ends up in opie hanging all together
19:00:40ciaolinuxkolla: does it depend on the card itself?
19:00:45kergothciaolinux: suspend does not unmount
19:00:49kergothciaolinux: nor should it
19:01:10ciaolinuxkergoth: then it might be my card... that is a bit lousy... i took it from my camcorder
19:01:12kollakergoth: heh, this isnt what was said here a few weeks ago :)
19:01:38ciaolinuxkolla: there should be a search engine for this channel... or a better faq i suppose
19:01:47kergothkolla: suspend has never unmounted
19:01:54yes, Dessimat0r?
19:01:54Dessimat0ribot
19:01:55kergothmaybe someone was mistaken
19:01:56kergothdunno
19:03:12ciaolinuxkergoth: it does with me... both with opie and with the sharp rom... but again it might be the card
19:03:38kergoththe ide pcmcia driver is supposed to deal with suspend/resume cleanly
19:03:42kollakergoth: I just tried
19:03:46kollaI put in the CF card
19:03:51kollaI put in suspend
19:04:25kollaI bring it up and it ejects
19:04:28kergothif it unmounted on suspend you'd be able to remove the card during a suspend
19:04:32kergothbut thats not the case
19:04:32kollaand re-inserts it
19:04:44kergothif you remove a card during a suspend bad things will happen cause things arent written
19:04:48kergothkolla: no.
19:04:51kergothkolla: *cardmon* thinks something has changed
19:04:53kollaI did not remove the card
19:05:08kergothbets on cardmon representing a false change of state
19:05:11kergothi'll dig into it
19:05:59KeyserSozeanyone hook up a usb compact flash reader to a linux machine?
19:06:01ciaolinuxkergoth: great... i am having the problem only for the sd... the cf works fine except for the eject thing (doesn't work to me, but i was said that it works in the last prerelease ... i am using the oct 11 one)
19:06:10ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: i do
19:06:29KeyserSozeciaolinux: I'm attempting to follow these instructions: http://home-1.worldonline.nl/~lmb/f_cflinuk.html
19:06:40kollabah
19:06:44kergothinstructions?
19:06:50kergothjust modprobe usb-storage and mount it
19:06:50kergothheh
19:06:53kollathe player was killed when I put it bakc from suspend
19:06:57kollaback
19:07:07KeyserSozemaybe the instructions are making it harder than it needs to be...
19:07:08kergothkolla: the player gets a signal on suspend, and another on resume, so that it can handle it cleanly
19:07:11ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: with mine... i had to change the kernel from .18 to .19 and start working great
19:07:13kergothkolla: if it isnt, report the bug
19:07:33kollakergoth: ok
19:07:44KeyserSozekergoth: I tried just now: modprobe: Can't locate module usb-storage
19:07:48ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: what is yours?
19:07:56kergothKeyserSoze: well, it wont work without the usb storage module
19:08:02ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: werll than you need to compile the kernel
19:08:25rumour has it oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
19:08:25wazlafibot oz prerelease
19:08:30ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: or better the module... make menuconfig etc...
19:08:54KeyserSozei already looked in "make menuconfig", and it appears that usb-storage is compiled into my kernel.  i went in there to make it a module, but it was already marked (and not with an M)
19:08:58kergothAndyQ: i'm going to do some testing with aqpkg. if its solid and easier to use than oipkg i'll include it in the next oz reelase by default
19:08:59ciaolinuxkergoth: is there any doc on how to upgrade an oz?
19:09:04kergothciaolinux: ipkg upgrade
19:09:14KeyserSozehow do i know what /dev/xxx to mount?
19:09:26kergothKeyserSoze: do you have any scsi devices? if not, its sda1
19:09:27ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: it should be /dev/sda1 or /dev/sdb1
19:09:39kergothon my box its sdc1
19:09:39ciaolinuxkergoth: depends if you have a zip or something like that
19:09:40kergoth:)
19:09:43kergothno
19:09:49kergothit depends on how many scsi devices you have
19:09:59ciaolinuxkergoth: sorry... i wanted to say KeyserSoze: depends ...
19:10:06KeyserSozei did: "cat /proc/scsi/scsi", and got: "Attached devices:
19:10:06KeyserSozeHost: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
19:10:06KeyserSoze  Vendor: SanDisk  Model: ImageMate CF-SM  Rev: 0100
19:10:06KeyserSoze  Type:   Direct-Access                    ANSI SCSI revision: 02
19:10:06KeyserSozeHost: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 01
19:10:07KeyserSoze  Vendor: SanDisk  Model: ImageMate CF-SM  Rev: 0100
19:10:08ciaolinuxyes i know
19:10:09KeyserSoze  Type:   Direct-Access                    ANSI SCSI revision: 02
19:10:11KeyserSoze"
19:10:15kergothKeyserSoze: scsi0, its sda1
19:10:39AndyQkergoth: cool - I've made a few changes (upgrade works - or will when ipkg works), and you can no upgrade all packages (I hope)
19:10:48kergothAndyQ: yeah, i saw the commits
19:10:56wazlafkergoth: has anything changed about the hostap drivers since the first oz prerelease?
19:11:04AndyQkergoth: Its in CVS or you can grab the latest ipk from  http://andyq.myby.co.uk (download section)
19:11:15kergothwazlaf: the first one? not certain. what are the modules named?
19:11:18KeyserSozekergoth: which one is sda1?  it's a dual reader (CF and smart media), and under windows, both can be in the device at the same time, and they show up as different drives.  so shouldn't there be two devices for it under linux?
19:11:21kergothAndyQ: the oz buildroot builds opie from cvs, so thats easy
19:11:34kergothKeyserSoze: yeah, there'll be two devices. probably sda1 and sdb1
19:11:38AndyQkergoth: OK
19:11:48kergoth:)
19:12:07KeyserSozekergoth: you say "probably", does that mean i need to try mounting different sdX1, and see what works?
19:12:08AndyQawaits for comments (with bullet proof vest on :)
19:12:19kergothKeyserSoze: well, i always say probably :)
19:12:20ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: yes you can do that
19:12:28wazlafkergoth: don't have access to my Z here. but as far as i recall it was "prism"
19:12:37kergothKeyserSoze: its rare when i have enough information to say it definitively
19:12:47kergothwazlaf: if its prism2, then there has not been an upgrade to them
19:12:56kergothwazlaf: well, theres a new hostap version available, but we arent using it yet
19:13:02kergothwazlaf: because the new version didnt work in my tests
19:13:11kergothwazlaf: so i backed us up to a known working state
19:13:17wazlafkergoth: still the problem with network interfaces not coming up?
19:13:30kergothno
19:13:32kergothworks fine here
19:13:40somebody said oz prerelease was http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
19:13:40AndyQibot oz prerelease
19:13:49ciaolinuxkergoth: before doing ipkg upgrade i suppose i need to connect the Z on the internet.. do i follow the same instruction as the sharp rom?
19:13:52kergothive not a new one here but i'm busy testing ben's network setup app on it
19:13:57kergothciaolinux: for the most part. read the FAQ.
19:13:59KeyserSozewhat would the filesystem type be, for a card that i never formatted, that's been used in my digital camera?
19:14:04kergothKeyserSoze: vfat
19:14:10KeyserSozethanks :)
19:14:12kergothnp
19:14:13ciaolinuxkergoth: you mean the oz faq?
19:14:16kergothciaolinux: yes
19:14:20ciaolinuxkergoth: ok thanks.
19:14:23kergothnp
19:14:36scanlineis back (gone 06:15:57)
19:14:49ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: does it work now?
19:14:54scanlineis away: Dave... my mind is going...
19:15:25KeyserSozewoo hoo!  it worked!
19:15:37ciaolinuxKeyserSoze: great! have fun now...
19:15:41kollakergoth: I just did "while true ; do df /mnt/cf ; done > /tmp/cfdf" and did a suspend.. the /tmp/cfdf file clearly shows that /mnt/cf is unmounted
19:15:54kollaand remounted again
19:16:28kollakergoth: so if you think it should work differently, please feel free to fix it :)
19:16:39kergothi would if i knew how
19:16:44kergothi will look into it
19:17:19ciaolinuxkolla: does it continue to run even when it is suspended?
19:17:29TheMasterMind2kergoth !
19:17:30TheMasterMind2sup
19:17:33kergothlong day
19:17:35kollaciaolinux: no, but it continues to run after I wake it up
19:17:36kergothvery long day
19:17:37kergothheh
19:17:37TheMasterMind2kergoth how do i create that /dev/sd thing so it works?
19:17:43TheMasterMind2kergoth and what's up with this atd time issue
19:17:45kergothTheMasterMind2: add it to /boot/dev.tar
19:17:49kergothi dont know about the atd issue
19:17:50ciaolinuxkolla: how can you see that it was unmounted
19:17:51kergothonly some people see it
19:17:53kergothmine works fine
19:18:08TheMasterMind2kergoth ok, but how do i do it manually right now before i can reflash/upgrade?
19:18:11kergoth?
19:18:12TheMasterMind2mknod somethign something
19:18:16kollaciaolinux: and it shows the /mnt/cf  is mounted as /
19:18:20kergothcat /usr/lib/ipkg/info/sdmmc.postinst
19:18:23kergothheh
19:18:27kergothit created it on install
19:18:28kergothin /dev
19:18:32kergothits just not in the tarball
19:18:36kergothso it gets lost on reboot
19:19:24ciaolinuxkolla: can you show me the flood? i will try to do the same with my sd card when i reach my z tonight
19:19:34kollamf..
19:20:36kollaok.. normally.. mounted : /dev/hda1     213423   234234 322342 95%  /mnt/cf
19:21:29kollaok.. when unmounted : /dev/root     2342   2342   23423 82%  /
19:21:31killefizhas anyone qtopiadesktop 1.6b for linux working with oz?
19:21:35kollanever mind the numbers
19:22:02TheMasterMind2kergoth it always mounts my sd as vfat, when its actually ext2
19:22:09kergothTheMasterMind2: check /etc/sdcontrol
19:22:17TheMasterMind2and gtk refuses to compile
19:22:18TheMasterMind2the pos
19:22:22kergothTheMasterMind2: see if its hardcoding the fs
19:22:41TheMasterMind2gtk sources use gcc even though i told it to use arm-linux
19:23:03TheMasterMind2i set CC, how am i supposed to tell it to cross copile?
19:23:10kergothhow should i know/
19:23:11kergothheh
19:23:15kergothi haventl ooked at gtk
19:23:32TheMasterMind2no, like generally
19:23:36TheMasterMind2how do you do that with ./configure
19:23:54TheMasterMind2kergoth yea, for some reason the line that sets teh fstype that was commented before is now not commented
19:24:02kergothTheMasterMind2: weird.
19:24:09kergothTheMasterMind2: alright, i'll fix sdcontrol in oz-base
19:24:34kergother
19:24:36kergothsdmmc i mean
19:24:40TheMasterMind2ok
19:26:18wazlafi managed to mess up my modules using a modules-ipk built by oz-buildroot. where can i find the official modules ipk? i can't find it inside the oz prerelease feed
19:26:23kergoth?
19:26:38kergothi use the modules built by the buildroot
19:26:39kergothheh
19:26:42wazlaf;)
19:27:02wazlafi installed the modules ipk and now nothing works anymore ;)
19:27:08kergothworks flawless here
19:27:09wazlafno usbdnet, wlan :(
19:27:10kergothbuilt last night
19:27:17kergothas of around 9pm
19:27:18wazlafhrmm strange
19:27:21TheMasterMind2./configure --build=i686-linux --host=arm-linux
19:27:21kollawazlaf: ir dialup.. :)
19:27:24TheMasterMind2is that right?
19:27:30kergothTheMasterMind2: yep
19:28:00kalldrexxanyone here used QDirectPainter or QPainter to draw a pixmap onto another pixmap?
19:28:27wazlafdarn. actually /lib/modules/2.4.6-rmk1-np2-embedix is *empty*
19:28:48kergothwazlaf: ill upload the modules ipk in a sec
19:29:12TheMasterMind2kergoth hm, doesn't seem to work, it uses gcc instead of arm-linux-gcc
19:29:12TheMasterMind2grr
19:34:07Onyx4|workhi im back
19:34:23TheMasterMind2checking whether the C compiler (gcc -L/zaurus/buildroot/build/xc/lib/X11 -I/zaurus/buildroot/output/staging/usr/include -L
19:34:33TheMasterMind2 /zaurus/buildroot/output/staging/usr/lib ) is a cross-compiler... no
19:35:19kalldrexxhey Onyx4
19:35:27Onyx4|workhey :)
19:36:07Onyx4|workkergoth:  did you had time to look at why umount of devpts failed?
19:36:13kergothno
19:36:16kergothi'm working.
19:36:20Onyx4|workheh ok :)
19:36:47Onyx4|worksomeone earlier was talking about cardmon seeing a false re-insert...
19:36:53Onyx4|workso I wasn't alone to see that thing
19:37:06kergothyes, kolla sees it
19:37:16Onyx4|workmaybe it's because I have an sd card actually
19:37:17kergothand he prooved its actually unmounting the card on suspend/resume
19:37:27kergothso the question is, why
19:37:42Onyx4|workmmmm yes interesting
19:37:46kollaOnyx4|work: what do you mean "false"? :)
19:37:58kollaright
19:38:03Onyx4|workwell I thought that cardmon cannot eject/insert, it just report states
19:38:14kergoththats correct.
19:38:20kergoth*something* is unmounting the card
19:38:22kergoth*not* cardmon.
19:38:25kollamm
19:38:27kergothcardmon reads text files. thats it.
19:38:28kergothperiod
19:38:29Onyx4|workbut cardmon already has the weird behavior that if I insert my SD card, and CF card, then it says "sd removed" even if it's still in
19:38:37Onyx4|workI filed a bug on that
19:38:40kergothdid you put that one in mantis?
19:38:41Onyx4|worknever got looked at yet tough
19:38:41kergothokay, good
19:38:49Onyx4|workthey don't see it on ipaq
19:38:53Onyx4|workso it's something oz specific
19:40:04kollarm /etc/rc*/*sd is what I do :)
19:40:44TheMasterMind2you think i can compile opengl for the Z?
19:40:45kollaprefer to mount the sd card manually
19:40:45TheMasterMind2on X
19:40:53kergothTheMasterMind2: what benefits would it get you?
19:40:58kergothTheMasterMind2: theres no hardware acceleration]
19:40:58TheMasterMind2opengl apps on the Z
19:41:01TheMasterMind2yea
19:41:02kergothyeah
19:41:04TheMasterMind2thats' true
19:41:04kergothat about 1fps
19:41:05TheMasterMind2but still
19:41:06kergothwoo
19:41:07kergothheh
19:41:08TheMasterMind2heh
19:41:16TheMasterMind2its better than no opengl
19:42:01TheMasterMind2${CC-cc}
19:42:03TheMasterMind2what's taht?
19:44:06TheMasterMind2cross_compiling=$ac_cv_prog_cc_cross
19:44:09TheMasterMind2whats that mean
19:45:16wazlafkergoth: never mind about those modules - got it to work myself now
19:51:40kergothwazlaf: okay good
19:52:52wazlafkergoth: no not really ;)
19:52:58kergothheh
19:53:20wazlafkergoth: i am missing prism2.o (hostap.o exists)
19:53:21TheMasterMind2aha!
19:53:23TheMasterMind2i got it kergoth
19:53:28TheMasterMind2the debian sources work much better
19:53:30TheMasterMind2i love debian
19:53:31Onyx4|workdo you think I could build a gcc crosscompiler on IRIX for ARM processor?
19:53:54Onyx4|workthat way I could build parallel OZ on a 128 cpu machine :)
19:54:27prpplaguekergoth: you get that email?
19:55:08TheMasterMind2anyway
19:55:09TheMasterMind2later
19:56:40ljp_workhmm TCX
19:57:09Onyx4|workoh kergoth, once other thing I noticed... the kernel modules don't get upgraded from OZ 2.9.5.5 not sure if that's wanted
19:57:15prpplagueljp_work: tcx?
19:57:17Onyx4|works/once/one
19:57:40kergothOnyx4|work: they havent changed
19:57:49ljp_workTCX at zsi
19:57:52kergothprpplague: yes, got it, and jeanne opened a change request with engineering
19:57:54Onyx4|workoh ok I thought we changed some things
19:57:59markkergoth: any idea about that spawning too quickly error?
19:58:03kergothwazlaf: you're on a wrong kernel-modules build
19:58:11kergothmark: what spawning too rapidly error?
19:58:49prpplaguekergoth: wow, i suspected it would get stuck in "evalutation meetings"
19:58:51rumour has it xcompile is just get ftp://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/pub/armlinux/toolchain/cross-2.95.3.tar.bz2 , un-tarbz2 in /usr/local/arm and set PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/arm/2.95.3/bin and you're set! much better than the zauruszone howto setup (faster, cleaner, newer, works with more source) or ftp://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/pub/armlinux/toolchain/cross-3.2.tar.bz2 or be sure and read the install notes
19:58:51Onyx4|workibot: xcompile
19:59:27kergothprpplague: well, we'll see what happens from here :) she mentioned the buyback in the change request, and every change request thats opened notifies the sales people that can push this for us
19:59:42wazlafkergoth: wrong kernel-modules build?? sounds bad, how can i fix it? ;)
19:59:46Onyx4|workcool they have sources for the toolchain heh
19:59:55kergothwazlaf: using bk? snapshots? what?
20:00:15wazlafkergoth: bk pull?
20:00:23kergothyep
20:00:24wazlafkergoth: haven't updated it for a couple of days
20:00:25kergothyou're behind
20:00:29wazlafok ;)
20:00:30kergothi reverted our hostap version
20:00:32kergothto the stable one
20:01:30Onyx4|workbtw my feed is all up to date
20:01:53killefizOnyx4|work: including a working oz-base?
20:01:55markkergoth: got a console error while using Konqueror that said "Init: process "1" spawning too quickly, frozen for 5 minutes' or somethign
20:02:08kergothmark: i need the exact error.
20:02:28kergothwhich process is respawning too rapidLY?
20:02:29umopapisdnHey! How are things going with the new release?
20:02:36kergothumopapisdn: some quirks..
20:02:44kergothumopapisdn: suspend/resume bug with ide cards
20:02:49markkergoth: i've lost it i'mafraid, it may be in your irc buffer, I sent it while you were away, my client crashed
20:02:53kergothumopapisdn: beyond that its pretty solid
20:02:55kergothmark: ah
20:02:57Onyx4|workkillefiz: yes
20:03:07kergothmark: well, that indicates that something is dying immediately after init executes it
20:03:18kergothmark: sounds like your getty isnt spawning on tty1, which means your devices got messed
20:03:26umopapisdnkergoth: Hmmm, i don't have any problems on mine...
20:03:40markkergoth: right.  why should it happen suddenly while browsing with konq and not before?
20:03:41kergothumopapisdn: me neither
20:03:45Onyx4|workkillefiz: but if you run the version with the /var/dev hacks, im not sure oz-base can upgrade fine to that...
20:03:45kergothmark: no idea..
20:03:51kergothmark: actually, you probably had it before
20:03:55Onyx4|workwe completely reversted the /var/dev thing for a ramdisk now
20:04:05markkergoth: could explain my freeze ups
20:04:05kergothmark: those messages would be going to vt1, opie runs on vt2.. you'd never see them
20:04:50killefizOnyx4|work: i'm running the latest prerelease so that should not be a problem
20:04:50markright, so opie crashed and dropped the fb or somethign and then those messages started comnming through ontop?
20:05:33kergothmark: when opie exits the opie startup script, which is still running, returns you to vt1 where a getty is waiting for you, so you can lgin
20:05:36kergothlogin
20:06:12markkergoth: i didn't get an opportunity to log in, nothing was responding to any input, couldn't ping it etc.
20:06:18kergothi know
20:06:20Onyx4|workkillefiz: correct
20:06:21kergother
20:06:23kergothyou couldnt ping?
20:06:24kergoththats weird
20:06:25kergothhrm
20:06:40chouimatkergoth: fix the ram disk problem?
20:06:50markkergoth: i'll try and replicate
20:07:31kergothchouimat: yeah, i'll push it in a sec
20:11:50oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
20:11:50nasaibot oz prerelease
20:13:39ciaolinuxkergoth: is there something like dselect?
20:20:06kergothciaolinux: for ipkg? just use oipkg.
20:21:01nasahi
20:21:22nasakergoth: you ever notice/fix problems with addressbook and appearance?
20:21:40kergothnasa: nope. didnt have a chance
20:24:39nasaI have noticed one other problem -- very, very slight... It might not even have to do with oz.... Playing around with tkcvideo I would cause a 'D' process if I suspened the Z with it running.
20:25:03kergothnasa: probably it not handling suspend/resume right.. but dont report it to them yet.
20:25:05nasaSide note: 'D' process can not be recovered from -- a soft reboot is necessary
20:25:21nasaOk
20:26:12umopapisdnkergoth: Who's having problem so far with the prerelease and suspend/ide stuff? Alot of people?
20:26:22kergothumopapisdn: numatrix and dessimat0r
20:26:29kergothumopapisdn: possibly onyx4 as well, not certain
20:26:38ciaolinuxkergoth: also me...
20:26:52kergothyeah
20:26:54kergothciaolinux too
20:26:56kergothhm
20:26:59nasakergoth: a problem, I haven't seen -- how strange...
20:27:05umopapisdnciaolinux: What card do you have ? and size? and how is it formatted? just curious.
20:27:08kergothumopapisdn: for some reason, it appears our cards are being unmounted on suspend
20:27:30ciaolinuxumopapisdn: i have tried with few... one of those was mrflash... all of them fat16
20:27:34kergothumopapisdn: strikes me as odd, but maybe thats how its supposed to work
20:28:07ciaolinuxkergoth: i get that problem only with the sd card... for the cf card, it wouldn't umount it, but if i do it manually it would work
20:28:07umopapisdnkergoth: What happens really after a suspend when the Z is turned back on? What's executed?
20:28:22kergothumopapisdn: nothing should be. cardmgr picks up a resume event and calls the pcmcia scripts
20:29:13umopapisdnciaolinux: you're using a 5000 or a 5500 zaurus?
20:29:23ciaolinux5000
20:29:39ciaolinuxumopapisdn: and the oct11 prerelease
20:29:53umopapisdnciaolinux: not the oct15 ?
20:30:05ciaolinuxnot yet
20:30:18umopapisdnciaolinux: I had problems with the oct11 release too, but they were gone with the oct15.
20:30:20ciaolinuxso i don't know if il still have a problem with that! :-)
20:31:56numatrixumopapisdn: I'm here.
20:32:01numatrixJust spent a few minutes reading the logs.
20:32:22umopapisdnnumatrix: Are you having suspend/ide problems with the new prerelease?
20:32:33numatrixumopapisdn: I'm still running the last one from the 11th, but yeah.
20:33:02umopapisdnnumatrix: ok, just checking, so two of the 3 people with problems are running the oct11 release and not the oct15... :)
20:33:43numatrixumopapisdn: I'll flash to the 15th real quick then...
20:33:53kergothAndyQ: ping :)
20:33:56TheMasterMind1prpplague: around?
20:33:58AndyQpong
20:34:13kergothAndyQ: i've used aqpkg now :)
20:34:15TheMasterMind1hmm, anyone know why build/xc/include/X11 doesn't exist
20:34:19kergothAndyQ: its nifty, i like it. easy to use
20:34:23AndyQkergoth: and....phew!
20:34:31umopapisdnkergoth: not so sure anymore if there really are any problems with suspend on the latest release.
20:34:32Replacement program for uptime.. URL: http://www.burdell.org/up.php3
20:34:32prpplagueTheMasterMind1: what up?
20:34:32TheMasterMind1heh
20:34:37kergothAndyQ: minor user interface thing, the double tap to drop down the description.. seems odd, but intuitive
20:34:53TheMasterMind1prpplague: why doesn't build/xc/include/X11 exist
20:34:55AndyQkergoth: I'm just adding a feature to just to packages starting with (the letter you push)
20:34:55prpplagueTheMasterMind1: the includes for tinyx are suppose to be in xc/exports/include
20:34:58kergothAndyQ: it screws with the existing ipkg.conf, thats bad, it shouldnt *add* entries .. it should only use whats already there, and allow the user to add/remove them
20:35:16TheMasterMind1prpplague: ah! ok thanks
20:35:17AndyQkergoth: well that feature (double tap) was copied from iopkg
20:35:20ciaolinuxumopapisdn: you just 'ipkg upgrade' ?
20:35:24prpplagueTheMasterMind1: i started moving the includes and libs in stagging, but i've not ci yet
20:35:27AndyQkergoth: what do you mean, add entries?
20:35:41kergothAndyQ: well, how did familiar unstable get there? OZ doesnt come with that feed setup by default.
20:35:50umopapisdnciaolinux: I did a flash.. I guess you should ask kergoth if the upgrade is possible.
20:35:58numatrix: huh?
20:35:58numatrixibot: prerelease
20:35:58wazlafkergoth: heureka it works
20:36:03kergothwazlaf: nice
20:36:17AndyQOh yes it does (well, it was in the ipkg.conf that got installed when I flashed current prerelease OZ
20:36:36AndyQkergoth: Oh yes it does (well, it was in the ipkg.conf that got installed when I flashed current prerelease OZ)
20:36:46kergothah, its in there, but commented out
20:36:48kergothdoes it handle that?
20:36:59TheMasterMind1prpplague: ok cool
20:37:11kergothbrb
20:37:25TheMasterMind1w00t
20:37:27TheMasterMind1gtk is compiling
20:37:28TheMasterMind1sweeeeeeeeet
20:37:38TheMasterMind1and it died!
20:37:38AndyQkergoth: yup, coz you can only have one src uncommented (I think) so all others get commented out
20:37:50kergothhrm
20:38:00kergothAndyQ: so you cant do an upgrade all from any available packages on any available feed?
20:38:07kergothAndyQ: ipkg upgrade loads packages from all known sources
20:38:11TheMasterMind1arm-linux-gcc: /zaurus/buildroot/output/staging/usr/lib/.libs/libglib.so: No such file or directory
20:38:11kergothis confused
20:38:12TheMasterMind1hmm
20:38:12TheMasterMind1curious
20:38:24AndyQI didn't think ipkg worked that way
20:38:25kergoth.libs? odd
20:38:32kergothAndyQ: ipkg update loads info from all feeds
20:38:48kergothAndyQ: ipkg upgrade upgrades from any location it knows about
20:38:54TheMasterMind1kergoth: gtk needs glib, we can use the one in the buildroot already yes?
20:38:58AndyQkergoth: If it does then I'll change that but I though you could only have one src uncommented at any one time
20:39:01kergothTheMasterMind1: yes
20:40:06AndyQkergoth: if you can have lots of feeds, does ipkg check which feed to download from?
20:40:24AndyQkergoth: and what happens if the same package is available in different feeds (different versions as well)?
20:40:24prpplagueTheMasterMind1: gtk? you gonna due gpe?
20:40:25kergothAndyQ: it grabs the latest version of each package in question, regardless of its source.
20:41:04AndyQkergoth: So if I have 2.3 in one feed and 2.4 in another its clever enough to know that 2.4 is later?
20:41:08kergothAndyQ: yes.
20:41:17kergothAndyQ: and thats the one it'll download and install
20:41:23AndyQoh cool - ok I'll sort that out now
20:41:46kergothAndyQ: one thing.. you allow showing ipks that are local.. would the upgrade function take that into account? that could be a bitch..
20:42:15kergothAndyQ: i'd say 'upgrade' just runs ipkg upgrade, and doesnt load anything from the local DocLnk's
20:42:37kergothAndyQ: but qpkg's interface is cool, i like it alot, and i'd rather include this than oipkg in oz
20:42:40AndyQupgrade does just run ipkg upgrade
20:42:51kergothAndyQ: so if you can get this feed situation dealt with, it'll make it into 2.9.7
20:43:01AndyQworkin on it...
20:43:30kergoththanks
20:43:31kergoth:)
20:43:34wazlafkergoth: something must have changed inside the prism2 driver
20:43:45kergothwazlaf: from when to when?
20:43:46kergothheh
20:43:55wazlafkergoth: it used to keep doing these unsuccessful card resets
20:43:57wazlafkergoth: now they work
20:44:01wazlafkergoth:  :-)
20:44:02kergothoh yeah
20:44:08kergothi dont remember how that got fixed
20:44:10kergothbut it did
20:44:11kergoth:)
20:44:18wazlafkergoth: thats all that matters :)
20:44:21numatrixkergoth: You have a new image you're testing now?
20:44:39kergothnumatrix: yeah. but its not avail yet cause i'm testing out networksetup instead of netsetup, and aqpkg instead of oipkg
20:45:01kergothaqpkg is just about there
20:45:06kergothand networksetup isnt *quite* ready
20:45:11kergothso i'll hack on networksetup some
20:45:22numatrixkergoth: Mind sending it to me?  I'd like to test out ben's app as well, and I'm just about to upgrade to test out and see if the cf issue happens on a new image.
20:45:31kergothnumatrix: okay, hold up
20:45:35numatrixsure
20:46:35TheMasterMind1kergoth: so what are current issues that need to be dealt with before this thing releases
20:47:28kergothTheMasterMind1: the reported ide suspend/resume shit
20:47:36kergothTheMasterMind1: and the atd thing only certain people see
20:47:43TheMasterMind1hmm
20:47:43TheMasterMind1ok
20:47:49numatrixAre you going to try to wait for apkg and networksetup as well?
20:47:50kergoththats it
20:47:59kergothnumatrix: i would like to. they're a lot easier to use
20:48:00TheMasterMind1i compiled gtk :oD
20:48:02TheMasterMind1w00t
20:48:06kergothTheMasterMind1: nice
20:48:39ljp_workI fixed advancedfm today, so you might update that too
20:48:39nasakergoth: is apkg going to replace oipkg?
20:48:50kergothnasa: they're seperate apps
20:48:55kergothnasa: they'll coexist in opie
20:49:02kergothnasa: its just a matter of which to preinstall in the oz rom
20:49:08kergothljp_work: yep, already did :)
20:49:18ljp_workcool, thxk
20:49:58TheMasterMind1kergoth: i like debian/*.files
20:49:58chouimatkergoth: did you push ?
20:50:03TheMasterMind1tells me exactly what to package
20:50:03TheMasterMind1:)
20:50:13numatrixkergoth: cool; finally got the startup screen fixed again.
20:50:17kergothchouimat: hold, bout to
20:50:40kergothnumatrix: uploading the testing image
20:52:21Onyx4|worknumatrix: startup screen?
20:52:37kergothOnyx4|work: 'please wait' after opie-login is placed right now
20:52:43numatrixOnyx4|work: yeah, the opie waiting screen.  It was mis-sized in a few of the prereleases.
20:52:58Onyx4|workok
20:53:12kergothnumatrix: sadman made a bunch of improvements
20:53:25kergothsandman
20:53:25kergothheh
20:53:31numatrixkergoth: Hmmm..  Not good.  I just used the 15th rom and in that one when I suspend and resume, the CF card pops up as ejected, then STAYS ejected.  Doesn't show it as inserted again...
20:53:59kergothdid it get mounted?
20:54:02numatrixit is still mounted though
20:54:02kergothcardmon is *not* god
20:54:04numatrixyeah
20:54:05kergothheh
20:54:06umopapisdnnumatrix: did you do a "ipkg upgrade" or a flash?
20:54:07kergothokay, good
20:54:25TheMasterMind1yea cardmon needs a smacking
20:54:29TheMasterMind1does someone maintain it?
20:54:45kergothTheMasterMind1: its harlekins
20:54:49numatrixyeah, then a umount and an eject/insert and it's back in business.  I'm going to try the suspend again see if I get the same behavior.
20:55:03kergothnumatrix: wait, you had to unmount to use it? i thought it was mounted?
20:55:14numatrixkergoth: It was; I wanted cardmon to show it.  ;-)
20:55:22numatrixMan, I really wish we had a dedicated power button.  :-(
20:55:55kergothokay good.
20:56:01Bovineheh
20:56:01kergothnumatrix: any other suspend issues? the ide issue?
20:56:20oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
20:56:20Bovineibot oz prerelease
20:56:26nasakergoth: don't forget the addressbook prob....
20:56:29kergothBovine: new one coming soon
20:56:31numatrixjust ide: I assume sd is still broken
20:56:33kergothnasa: hold, let me check it
20:56:43kergothnumatrix: sd should be fine.. in theory :)
20:57:02nasaI am using it -- with good results....
20:57:03numatrixoh yeah, that does fix it; right.  sd_slotstat is there.  let me give it a whirl.
20:57:07Bovineany show stoppers with this pre release?
20:57:15kergothnasa: just ran addressbook, datebook, todo w/ no probs
20:57:16kergothnumatrix: k
20:57:20kergothBovine: not thaatt i know of
20:57:28Bovinecool, I'll try this then :)
20:57:30kergothBovine: well, that last one had a coupel quirks, but not many
20:57:33TheMasterMind1nasa: whats the address book prob
20:58:00nasaTheMasterMind1: I get a undefined symbol: fields__80Contact error
20:58:18numatrixkergoth: The problem where if an SD card is already inserted and a CF card is inserted, the SD disappears is showing up still.
20:58:34numatrixcard is still inserted, just disappears in cardmon
20:58:35kergothnumatrix: http://openzaurus.sf.net/unofficial/unstable/kergoth/initrd.bin .. note this has aqpkg instead of oipkg, and networksetup instead of netsetup.. network setup is known not to save the wireless.opts
20:58:45numatrixok
20:58:47nadavooh
20:58:49nadavi might try it also
20:58:56nadavdoes it fix todo?
20:59:46kergothtodo works fine
21:00:10nadavokay
21:01:38AndyQkergoth: What should I do about commented out servers - ignore them and allow their status to be changed in settings?
21:02:01AndyQkergoth: or just ignore them and get user to manually  uncomment them
21:02:03kergothAndyQ: hmm given the way your interface is designed, yeah, i'd not put them in the dropdown and let them change it in settings
21:02:06kergother
21:02:08kergoththats possible too
21:02:12kergothshit, etiher way. your call :)
21:02:34AndyQkergoth: well, 2nd way is quicker (for now, I can do it properly later :),
21:02:55kergothAndyQ: okay, cool
21:02:57TheMasterMind1arsenic:/zaurus/gaim/gaim-0.59.4/sounds# ./au2h
21:02:57TheMasterMind1-bash: ./au2h: cannot execute binary file
21:02:59TheMasterMind1beh!
21:03:09kergoth?
21:03:14TheMasterMind1i don't even want sound!
21:03:18kergothTheMasterMind1: compiled it for arm, id say
21:03:36TheMasterMind1kergoth: ah, doh :)
21:03:41TheMasterMind1it compiles for arm
21:03:44TheMasterMind1then runs on the box
21:03:44TheMasterMind1hmm
21:03:50TheMasterMind1need to get around that
21:03:51TheMasterMind1grr
21:03:57kergothTheMasterMind1: most buildsystems have two variables you can define
21:04:06kergothTheMasterMind1: a HOSTCC or CC_FOR_BUILD or whatever for the build machine
21:04:10TheMasterMind1i see
21:04:16TheMasterMind1i'm thinking getting debian sources is better
21:04:21kergothTheMasterMind1: sounds like you need to set that, so that it knows what gcc to run for things it needs to run locally
21:04:24TheMasterMind1since they fix all this shit and get it compiling for arm anyway
21:04:28TheMasterMind1why bother with fixing it again
21:04:40benmeyerCan someone cat me there interfaces file?
21:04:49YES
21:04:49TheMasterMind1kergoth: no?
21:05:35umopapisdnbenmeyer: which one is that?
21:05:45kergothumopapisdn: /etc/network/interfaces
21:05:59no idea, themastermind1
21:05:59TheMasterMind1ibot: yes?
21:06:02YES
21:06:02TheMasterMind1ibot no?
21:06:09wish i knew, nadav
21:06:09nadavibot yes?
21:06:12kollakergoth: another thing I find.. strange.. when I kill cardmgr, it also dismounts the CF card
21:06:17OK, TheMasterMind1.
21:06:17TheMasterMind1ibot yes is <reply> NO
21:06:19TheMasterMind1yes?
21:06:21kergothkolla: dont do that? :P
21:06:25TheMasterMind1: i'm not following you...
21:06:25TheMasterMind1ibot yes/
21:06:26i haven't a clue, themastermind1
21:06:26TheMasterMind1ibot yes?
21:06:32OK, TheMasterMind1.
21:06:32TheMasterMind1ibot yes? is <reply> NO
21:06:34NO
21:06:34TheMasterMind1yes?
21:06:36TheMasterMind1heheh
21:07:02nasakergoth: I also have noted a library problem with the appearance app --- undefined symbol: __130FontSelectorbP70WidgetPCcUi
21:07:30kergothnasa: appearance works, verifeid
21:07:48TheMasterMind1debian rocks
21:07:52nasakergoth: and nothing with those has been updated?
21:07:54kergothhugs apt-get
21:08:04kergothnasa: dont know. there was a change to addressbook.
21:08:07nadavhm
21:08:30nadavkergoth: what bootflag should i use with your initrd?
21:08:41kergothnadav: anything
21:08:44kergothecho BLAH > bootflag.txt
21:08:45kergothheh
21:08:51nadavhaha
21:08:52nadavok
21:09:31nadavgoes to download a kernel
21:09:34nadavwhy do i never save these things fs?
21:09:49ljp_workis there a runlevel named BLAH? ;)
21:09:55numatrixSweet; the arrow keys work correctly in the shutdown app too.
21:10:01TheMasterMind1kergoth: hmm, seems like ./configure; make -C sounds CC=gcc is the way to go :)
21:10:57numatrixTheMasterMind1: when you're done, why don't you compile screen for the zaurus.  That would be nice.
21:11:17TheMasterMind1kergoth: hey, for gtk and stuff, should i use make install and set the prefix to staging beforehand?
21:11:24TheMasterMind1or copy files that are needed only
21:11:56TheMasterMind1i guess i might as well copy the files
21:12:06TheMasterMind1since i have to figure out the ones needed anyway to do the ipk
21:12:34oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
21:12:34Dessimat0ribot oz prerelease
21:12:56TheMasterMind1also, i tried to get gtk compiling with the stuff installed by glib in staging, but it bitches. if i just give it the source dir of glib, it works
21:13:09TheMasterMind1so i'll make that a variable that you need to change if glib version changes...
21:13:34TheMasterMind1or maybe ill figure out the problem
21:13:42TheMasterMind1everything that needs glib is giving this error
21:13:44TheMasterMind1arm-linux-gcc: /zaurus/buildroot/output/staging/usr/lib/.libs/libglib.so: No such file or directory
21:13:47TheMasterMind1while compiling
21:13:49Now, let's SEND OUT for QUICHE!!
21:13:49chouimatibot be zippy
21:14:03TheMasterMind1including gaim, which doesn't let me set the glib source dir and do it, so i'll have to fix it
21:14:03TheMasterMind1grr
21:14:30But Ken says, WOO-WOO!!  No credit at "Mr. Liquor"!!
21:14:30chouimatibot be zippy
21:15:17TheMasterMind1aha
21:15:17TheMasterMind1got it
21:15:21TheMasterMind1smacks glib
21:15:54TheMasterMind1    cp -a $(SourceTree)/.libs/ $(STAGING_DIR)/usr/lib/
21:15:58TheMasterMind1will that work as i want it to?
21:16:06TheMasterMind1make a dir called .libs/ inside /usr/lib/ ?
21:16:23kergothshould
21:17:47TheMasterMind1great
21:21:37TheMasterMind1/usr/lib/libnsl.so: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
21:21:37TheMasterMind1collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
21:21:38TheMasterMind1hmm
21:21:46TheMasterMind1its using ld for some reason, instead of arm-linux-ld
21:21:53kergoththats fine
21:21:59kergoththe problem is its looking in /usr/lib
21:22:03kergothfix that, and all will be well
21:22:20numatrixkergoth: There's no LAN connection in networksetup ?
21:22:24TheMasterMind1ah
21:22:31TheMasterMind1i see it now
21:23:22kergothnumatrix: if you insert a lan card, there is
21:23:25kergothnumatrix: :)
21:23:36numatrixahhh..
21:23:38numatrixso tricky. ;-)
21:23:42kergothhehe
21:23:49kergothsee, this one is so intuitive
21:23:55kergoththat the old unintuitive one got us thinking wrong
21:23:56kergoth:)
21:23:58TheMasterMind1kergoth: is there a general/easy way to stop it from looking in /usr/lib or is it build specific
21:24:27numatrixkinda minor; but it might be nice if the launcher app told you it was going to reload opie for you...
21:24:31kergothTheMasterMind1: ? find out which variable you need to set to remove -L/usr/lib from its link line
21:24:38kergothnumatrix: mantis
21:24:41kergothnumatrix: report it
21:25:33wazlaf_what's "!dratsab"??
21:25:37numatrixkergoth: will do.  fyi, cardmon works fine when a CF card is in and an SD card is in; it's only when the CF is ide that it drops the sd.
21:25:48kergothnumatrix: weird.
21:25:56Onyx4|workwhat package provides the "pushd" command in debian?
21:25:57kergothnumatrix: something with the interaction when it parses mtab eh
21:26:13kergothOnyx4|work: pushd is a shell builtin
21:26:23Onyx4|workmmm
21:26:32Onyx4|workmaybe I need to use bash then
21:26:39kergoth:)
21:26:39Onyx4|workrather than sh
21:26:43kergothhugs bash
21:26:43TheMasterMind1kergoth: its GLIB_LIBS and two other GLIB_* vars
21:26:54AndyQkergoth: OK, changes have been made - should compile and work (does on mine)
21:26:55kergothTheMasterMind1: so override them on the commandline.. or something
21:27:01TheMasterMind1hmm
21:27:02TheMasterMind1fine
21:27:03kergothAndyQ: woot. committed?
21:27:07chouimatjust found a 4x4 to smacks kergoth
21:27:10kergothhehe
21:27:11AndyQkergoth: yes - I just have to hope ipkg works with versions correctly
21:27:12kergothuh oh
21:27:14kergothAndyQ: k
21:27:23kergothcvs up -Pd
21:27:25chouimatkergoth: :)
21:27:39AndyQkergoth: you've also got basic jump to as well (on a roll - wifes not happy though - i've abandoned her tonight :)
21:27:49kergothAndyQ: hah
21:27:57Onyx4|workIt'd be real nice if I can get cross-compile to work on MIPS/IRIX
21:28:05kergothAndyQ: go spend some well deserved time with the wife after this :)
21:28:06Onyx4|workthen I could build opie in like minutes
21:29:17TheMasterMind1kergoth: i can just do VAR=blah VARVAR=blah make
21:29:17TheMasterMind1?
21:29:27AndyQhehe
21:29:49TheMasterMind1Onyx4|work: build yourself a cross compiler
21:30:18Onyx4|workthat's what I'm doing, i'm downloading the source for the same one we use
21:30:23Onyx4|workand using their script to build it
21:30:42kergothTheMasterMind1: make VAR=blah VARVAR=blah is better
21:30:52kergothTheMasterMind1: make prioritizes cmdline more than environment
21:31:07kergothOnyx4|work: i'm adding crosscompiler build to the buildroot soon
21:31:12TheMasterMind1kergoth: tried that too, doesn't seem to change anything
21:31:18kergothOnyx4|work: for both 3.2 + glibc 2.3.1, and 2.95.4 + glibc 2.2.5
21:31:24kergothTheMasterMind1: well, no idea then.
21:31:35TheMasterMind1hmm
21:31:45Onyx4|workkergoth:  ha, that'd be interesting too ...
21:32:16kergothOnyx4|work: course i'll have to handle if they enable building both toolchains.. and have a way for them to select which toolchain to use (aka which item to add to PATH)
21:33:30nasakergoth: what is the latest oz-base? Unstable-14d or 14b?
21:33:30Onyx4|workcorrect yeah
21:34:00kergothnasa: unstable-14f is latest.
21:34:01chouimatnasa: I have 14c here
21:34:02kergoth:)
21:34:07kergothhehe
21:34:22chouimatkergoth: the ramdisk is it fixed ?
21:34:43kergothchouimat: no. not sure why. looking into it now
21:34:49Onyx4|worktoolchain should be easy to build using ftp://ftp.arm.linux.org.uk/pub/armlinux/toolchain/src-2.95.3/build-toolchain
21:34:52TheMasterMind1    GLIB_CFLAGS=`$GLIB_CONFIG $glib_config_args --cflags`
21:34:52TheMasterMind1    GLIB_LIBS=`$GLIB_CONFIG $glib_config_args --libs`
21:34:54nasaReason I ask, I am doing a 'ipkg upgrade' from the unstable feed and it said upgrading -14d to -14b....
21:34:56chouimatkergoth: major,minor 31,0 here
21:34:58TheMasterMind1it uses the file glib-config to set those vars
21:34:59kergothOnyx4|work: i know, i'm swiping other peoples build commadns :)
21:35:04kergothchouimat: oh *that* is fixed
21:35:08kergothchouimat: and it mounts manually
21:35:13oz prerelease is probably http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
21:35:13AndyQibot oz prerelease
21:35:16kergothchouimat: but mine wont mount on boot initially
21:35:18TheMasterMind1and i think if you set a --prefix while compiling glib, it will put those paths into glib-config
21:35:20kergothchouimat: so i'm looking into it
21:35:26kergothTheMasterMind1: run the glib-config from our build
21:35:28TheMasterMind1so i should have --prefix=$(STAGING_DIR) in the glib makefile right?
21:35:30kergothTheMasterMind1: set PATH
21:35:30TheMasterMind1kergoth: i did
21:35:42chouimatkergoth: where is the ramdisk? oz-base?
21:35:48TheMasterMind1arsenic:/zaurus/gtk+-1.2.10# /zaurus/buildroot/output/staging/bin/glib-config --libs
21:35:48TheMasterMind1-L/usr/lib -lglib
21:35:51kergothchouimat: ?
21:35:55kergothchouimat: ramdisk is a device
21:35:57TheMasterMind1its wrong in that glib-config also
21:35:58Onyx4|workactually one thing I already notice that will cause problem, is that on IRIX I need to call "gmake" instead of make for things to work, so in our scripts we dont use $(MAKE)
21:36:10chouimatkergoth: a roadmap of the ipk would be handy too :)
21:36:21kergothOnyx4|work: that wont cause a problem if gmake sets the MAKE env variable
21:36:30mickeylkergoth: howdy. just tried the latest buildroot which seems to have ironed out most of the bugs I've seen last time. Good job! One modprobe: can't locate nls-utf8 is still appearing though.
21:36:39kergothmickeyl: ah, thats fixed in new kernels
21:36:45kergothmickeyl: i compiled that damn thing in monolithically
21:36:46chouimatkergoth: only have 14e here
21:36:47kergothmickeyl: :)
21:36:53kergothchouimat: yes, its fixed in f
21:36:57Onyx4|workyeah but we call make explitcly during the install and build of packages no?
21:37:01kergothchouimat: but i still need to mount manually for some reason
21:37:01mickeylkergoth: hehe :)) yeah, if that's get us rid of this message, go ahead :)
21:37:02kergothOnyx4|work: no.
21:37:10chouimatkergoth: push f then
21:37:12kergothOnyx4|work: we use $(MAKE)
21:37:33Onyx4|workmmm most packages i've seen we do like make -C $(SourceTree) blah
21:37:34kergothOnyx4|work: i think i got rid of most of the direct calls to 'make'
21:37:35kergothno
21:37:41kergothmost use $(MAKE) -C $(SourceTree)
21:37:43kergothany that use make need fixing
21:37:46kergoth:)
21:37:49Onyx4|workoh ok if we've cleaned them up it's good :)
21:37:56kergothi think i fixed most of them
21:38:00kergothbut there may be some hiding
21:38:01Onyx4|workcool
21:38:06kergothgrep for em
21:38:06kergoth:)
21:38:09TheMasterMind1kergoth: the glib-config file is a shell script that takes the --prefix from ./configure and returns that when you ask for libs location etc. the --prefix in glib's buildroot Makefile is /usr right now, so its setting it to /usr and saying /usr/lib for libs
21:38:10Onyx4|workthen I can just define MAKE in vars
21:38:11mickeylkergoth: what has become of mtdblock6 ? is this what now is ramfs?
21:38:15TheMasterMind1should i change the prefix or will something else breake
21:38:24kergothmickeyl: mtdblock6 has always been mtdram
21:38:28kergothmickeyl: using ext2 or minix
21:38:39kergothTheMasterMind1: something else may break, not certain
21:38:42mickeylkergoth: ok, just the name "mtdblock6" is no longer listed explicitly.
21:38:44kergothTheMasterMind1: we may want to sed that script
21:38:47kergothmickeyl: yes, it is
21:38:58kergothmickeyl: there was a bug with it though, which is fixed now
21:39:02mickeylkergoth: where? not here in my fstab nor on mount.
21:39:09kergothas i said, it was broken
21:39:10kergothno longer is
21:39:11mickeylkergoth: aaah ok
21:39:16Bovineare the packages at - http://openzaurus.sourceforge.net/official/unstable/feed/ - "safe" to use on the latest prerelease?
21:39:25kergothBovine: no.
21:39:30kergothBovine: use the feed from the prerelease you're using.
21:39:35oz prerelease is http://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/
21:39:35kergothibot oz prerelease
21:39:35Onyx4|workthe only problem is that I might need also gcc 2.95 for my host, I use 3.04 on IRIX
21:39:40Bovinethat doesn't have some things :/
21:39:42kergothhttp://openzaurus.sf.net/official/unstable/20021015_1642/feed/
21:39:48kergothit has everything but kenrel modules
21:39:57kergothuse it
21:40:35BovineI was kinda hoping for fb_vncserver :)
21:40:46kergothuse fbvncserver-oz from wherever you can find it
21:40:50kergothit hasnt been changed in a long ass time
21:40:56Bovineahh, k
21:40:59TheMasterMind1kergoth:
21:41:01TheMasterMind1    cd $(SourceTree); sed < glib-config > glib-config -e '/^prefix=\/usr$$/prefix=$(STAGINGDIR)/'
21:41:05TheMasterMind1seem right?
21:41:07BovineI take it things like kismet from http://openzaurus.sourceforge.net/official/unstable/feed/ will be ok?
21:41:12kergothTheMasterMind1: looks about right
21:41:16kergothBovine: yeah
21:41:20TheMasterMind1ok i'll make sure
21:41:25Bovinejust avoid opie- stuff?
21:41:30Onyx4|workdownloading bk for IRIX :)
21:41:38kergothBovine: i woudlnt trust oz-base and shit from there
21:41:42Bovinek
21:41:43kergothBovine: who knows what state they're in
21:41:52Bovineheh
21:41:57TheMasterMind1sed: -e expression #1, char 17: Extra characters after command
21:41:58TheMasterMind1hmm
21:42:02Bovinegoes from a cow to a guinea pig
21:42:04Bovine:P
21:42:11kergothTheMasterMind1: you forget s
21:42:14kergothTheMasterMind1: s/blah/heh/
21:42:18kergothTheMasterMind1: not /blah/heh/
21:42:45Onyx4|workwow can't beleive binutils for xcompile actually compiled on mips wooo
21:43:00kergothhehe
21:43:28Onyx4|workthis is gonna be fun
21:43:41kergothchouimat: just pushed the changes.
21:43:46Onyx4|workmy machine is a 16G of ram with like 300+gigs of storage and 32 cpus
21:43:52scan[ibook]binutils usually compile pretty easily, the fun begins with gcc and glibc
21:43:59nasaok, what's up with 'ipkg upgrade' -- it keeps saysing it wants to install a file that is already provided by <no pacakge>
21:44:05Onyx4|workcrosses his finger
21:44:10kergothnasa: what are you trying to upgrade?
21:44:19kergothOnyx4|work: just one?
21:44:27Onyx4|workthat's one machine yes
21:44:31chouimatoke I'm doing make clean
21:44:32kergothjust one finger
21:44:33nasakergoth: I just did a 'ipkg upgrade'
21:44:38kergoth'onyx4|work crosses his finger'
21:44:42kergothnasa: nono
21:44:42Onyx4|workoh
21:44:48kergothnasa: what *package* was it upgrading when it failed
21:44:55kergothnasa: telling me ipkg upgrade failed means nothing
21:44:56Onyx4|workfinger(s)
21:44:59nasaoh... lots and lots...
21:45:53Onyx4|workmmm it did not name by binaries arm-linux-strip, just named them "strip"
21:46:12nasaopie-style-fresh, opie-theme, opie-theme-luna, etc
21:46:23kergothOnyx4|work: thats fine.
21:46:30kergothOnyx4|work: just follow the instructions. heh
21:46:50Onyx4|workinstructions where/
21:46:56kergothAndyQ: 'failed to symlink /mnt/ram/./ to /./'
21:47:00Onyx4|workin the script itself?
21:47:18AndyQkergoth: hmmm  doing what?
21:47:23kergothAndyQ: installing a package
21:47:25nasaopie-qasteroids, opie-opiealarm, and it goes on...
21:47:56kergothAndyQ: it just failed to install .. id ont know what.. it looked like it symlinked every file twice, so the second pass of links failed
21:48:17AndyQkergoth: urrgh - which package?
21:48:30kergothAndyQ: candycruncher. works fine with oipkg
21:48:32kergothAndyQ: alsso
21:48:41kergothAndyQ: it did sucessfully install, but failed to link..
21:48:46kergothAndyQ: install showed status = failure
21:48:50kergothAndyQ: but now its installed :)
21:48:52nadavbah
21:48:54TheMasterMind1aahh!
21:48:56TheMasterMind1goes crazy
21:48:57nadavtoo bad os x cant read ext2
21:49:03oz bk is bk clone http://openzaurus.bkbits.net/buildroot buildroot-oz; cd buildroot-oz; bk -r co -q; cp def-configs/openzaurus .config; make oldconfig; make or see bitkeeper (free download but non-gpl) or see 'oz snapshot' if you don't want to use bk
21:49:03Onyx4|workibot: oz bk
21:49:05kergothAndyQ: you should either warn about it, or remove the ipkg on link failure, or do something to handle it cleanly
21:49:08TheMasterMind1/usr/lib insn;t in the Makefile anymore! why msut you use it
21:49:32Onyx4|workwhere do I set the proxy for bk?
21:49:34chouimatkergoth: fix the make clean <- no download
21:49:43kergothchouimat: k
21:50:22chouimatkergoth: and make distclean <- current behavior
21:50:25kergothAndyQ: s/remove/uninstall/; or something
21:50:27kergothchouimat: yes, will do
21:50:32AndyQkergoth: Yeah - not sure why it tried to link twice - will check
21:50:42kergothAndyQ: k
21:51:41kergothAndyQ: at least, thats what it looks like. .. there are so many files i can barely make it out, but thats what i tlooked like. i'll test another package
21:51:43chouimatkergoth: or add  the following feature: do you already have the following source?
21:51:52kergothchouimat: ?
21:52:48Onyx4|workthe opie build could be parallel right?
21:53:09chouimatask before downloading if the needed source is allready on the computer and just copy it
21:53:11kergothOnyx4|work: every build is parallel if you use -j
21:53:16Onyx4|workah nice
21:53:17kergothchouimat: how would we do that?
21:53:19kergothhmm
21:54:00chouimatI'm looking to gentoo portage source code and bsd ports handling
21:54:10Onyx4|workso it's possible to cross-compile from non-linux/mips to linux/arm right?
21:54:25chouimatOnyx4|work: why not
21:54:27kergothOnyx4|work: should be
21:54:31Onyx4|workok just checking...
21:54:36Onyx4|workso far gcc is still building
21:55:10scanlineis back (gone 02:40:29)
21:55:25chouimatkergoth: currently make clean don't erase in sources?
21:55:58TheMasterMind1# Compile-time system search path for libraries

21:55:58TheMasterMind1sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec="/lib /usr/lib"
21:56:06TheMasterMind1those defs in libtool are causing my woes
21:56:06kergothchouimat: yes it does
21:56:11kergothchouimat: i havent fixed yet
21:56:21TheMasterMind1i think you have a fix for em in glib
21:56:24kergothTheMasterMind1: is it running its own libtool, our *ours*?
21:56:27kergothTheMasterMind1: s/our/or/
21:56:39kergothTheMasterMind1: make it use $(LIBTOOL) instead of ./libtool or hwatever
21:56:59kergothTheMasterMind1: and then set LIBTOOL=$(BUILD_DIR)/libtool/libtool (iirc)
21:57:10chouimatkergoth: hmmm I will think of something for the feature I want
21:57:29TheMasterMind1kergoth: ahh
21:57:42kergothchouimat: k. for now i'll change the behavior as you suggested
21:58:06nadavwhat are the opie-deco-*?
21:58:40TheMasterMind1decorations
21:59:18chouimatkergoth: maybe we can make buildroot ask before starting the build if we have the *.tar.gz files somewhere on the systems and if we want to use those files
22:00:29TheMasterMind1kergoth: our libtool has the same problem
22:02:27Onyx4|workkergoth:  where did you find the instructions for building?
22:02:52TheMasterMind1# Compile-time system search path for libraries
22:02:53TheMasterMind1sys_lib_search_path_spec="/lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib"
22:04:00mickeylis leaving for a while...
22:05:48AndyQkergoth: ipkg seg faults if cf or card is defined in ipkg.conf and you don't have one!
22:06:01AndyQkergoth: that is why you are getting the status=failure
22:06:11prpplagueTheMasterMind1: making progress with gpe?
22:06:20ljp_workis a new prelease still pending today?
22:07:18TheMasterMind1prpplague: actually, its gtk
22:07:27TheMasterMind1and no, libtool is causing problems
22:07:30TheMasterMind1needs to be fixed
22:08:56prpplagueTheMasterMind1: ahh
22:10:52TheMasterMind1this is one of the worst compiles ever
22:10:55TheMasterMind1even opie was eaiser
22:11:12prpplagueTheMasterMind1: lol
22:11:19TheMasterMind1adding opie to the buildroot was a pain
22:11:26TheMasterMind1but atleast you could cross compile it out of the buildroot
22:11:29TheMasterMind1this you can't even do that
22:11:55nadavquestion.
22:12:12nadavis it supposed to show that /mnt/ram is mounted in system info? it didnt earlier
22:12:35TheMasterMind1sure it did

22:34:01KeyserSozei plugged a CF card into my CF/smart media reader.  I couldn't mount it though.  for the longest time, a /dev/sda1 didn't show up.  when it did, i could then mount it.  is there anything i can do to make it show up when i connect the usb device, or do i just have to wait?
22:34:29KeyserSoze(this is vaguely zaurus related, because I am going to use the CF in my zaurus :))
22:35:14Onyx4|workwhile building the toolchain it abords with
22:35:19Onyx4|worklibgcc1.S:438: asm/unistd.h: No such file or directory
22:39:30Onyx4|workthat is part of the libc... I wonder if I need to compile that before gcc
22:39:38Onyx4|workor it's like a chiken and egg thing
22:42:58scanlineyou have to compile a bootstrap gcc without libc that you use to compile the libc that you compile gcc against
22:43:47Onyx4|workmmmm ok... but do I do that before compiling gcc for arm?
22:44:02Onyx4|workbecause right now that include file in the libc is required for building the gcc
22:45:13chouimatOnyx4: try to find C/C++ Users Journal from march 2000 good article on how to setup gcc as cross-compiler
22:46:36Onyx4|workoh I kno wwhat's going on
22:46:39Onyx4|workit's the kernel
22:46:46Onyx4|workit's missing the symlink for asm to asm-arm
22:47:52Onyx4|workbecause would the libc6 compile from the buildroot be enough?
22:48:00Onyx4|workor I would need to compile my own for the toolchain itself?

23:20:35kergothno, just curious. that has to be static.
23:20:39kergoththe zaurus doesnt have libstd++

23:23:37kergoththanks
23:24:02Onyx4|workkergoth:  do you think just compiling the binutils and gcc-2.95.3 is enough or I need something else for my toolchain?
23:24:11Onyx4|workconsidering what else we build from the buildroot
23:24:24kergoth?
23:24:35kergothbinutils and gcc and glibc are all you need for any toolchain
23:24:37kergothgenerally
23:24:48Onyx4|workbut we build glibc already in buildroot right?
23:24:50Onyx4|workso I don't need it?
23:25:04kergothyes, you do
23:25:08Onyx4|workarg... ok :(
23:25:12kergothyou need it for the crti.o and shit
23:25:17Onyx4|workso I'd need to also compile a gcc-core stuff too?
23:25:26kergothand theres no way to make things use our crti.o and stuff from our libc build, i've tried.
23:26:08kergothnumatrix: ping
23:26:10scanlinejust make buildroot compile the toolchain too :)
23:26:19Dessimat0rACK... I formatted the bloody CF as EXT2
23:26:22kergothscanline: already on the todo.. hunger had the old style buildroot building it.
23:26:25Dessimat0rbut it is fat16
23:26:30kergothDessimat0r: edit sdcontrol in /etc, comment out the FSTYPE line
23:26:38Dessimat0rah
23:26:39Dessimat0rokay
23:26:43Dessimat0rthanks ;)
23:26:46kergothalready fixed in the buildroot
23:26:47kergothnp
23:27:26scanlinekergoth: neato
23:27:35kergothscanline: i'll be converting it one of these days
23:27:44kergothscanline: two choices, either gcc3.2 + glibc 2.3.1, or the older stuff
23:28:01scanlineand then there's uClibc :)
23:28:06kergothyup
23:28:18kergothwe can swipe the build commands from andersee's toolchain build script for it
23:28:46Dessimat0rhmm.... it is still fat16, even when putting it into the CF reader on the pc
23:28:53Dessimat0rdo i need to reformat after commenting it out?
23:28:59kergothshouldnt
23:29:00kergothdunno
23:29:37Dessimat0rlol, there is a lostandfou.nd file on there ;)

23:32:45Onyx4|workthat's ok actually I've changed my path to use the GNU tools first
23:32:48Onyx4|workto now make is gmake
23:38:16Dessimat0rwhat is the path for the CF card if there is no CF card in?
23:38:40Dessimat0rI foolishly tried to move a document there when it wasn't in the slot ;)
23:40:00kergoth /mnt/cf
