00:14.18jcurryum, will flashing a zaurus take longer if flashing from a 64mb cf card, instead of 16mb?
00:14.28jcurryit's been blinking for a while now...
00:14.33hrw|tvrather not
00:14.38kergothif the lights are blinking, it isnt flashing the Z
00:14.46kergoththats an indication that it failed to read the files off the card
00:14.52jcurryoh.
00:15.03jcurryso what *does* it do when flashing?
00:15.05hrw|tvI flash from 16MiB vfat partition of 256MiB cf card
00:15.13kergoththe mail light goes solid.
00:15.17kergothand stays solid until its done
00:17.54jcurrygah, it isn't working.
00:19.05jcurryi downloaded the opie-image.rootfs.img, and called it 'initrd.bin'...and the zImage.bin.forPoodle, and called that 'zimage'
00:19.09jcurrythat ios correct?
00:19.11jcurryis*
00:19.44kergothif its blinking, either the image files are corrupt, or there's a problem with the filesystem or the card itself.
00:19.48kergothit indicates read *failure*
00:19.53kergotha file not being named right isnt a failure
00:19.55jcurryok...
00:19.57kergothit just wont flash that component
00:20.00hrw|tvzImage
00:20.10jcurryi need the i to be capital?
00:20.19jcurrydamn...

00:25.45cinixShould it be possible to flash the zaurus with only a zImage. Only to replace to the kernel and none of the root filesystem?
00:25.59hrw|tvyes
00:26.03cinixI think it erases the internal memory when you flash it, or at least indicates that it does
00:26.13hrw|tvatleast on collie it is possible
00:26.14cinixunless it only does that when you have an initrd file?
00:26.50cinixThat would be definietly be nice.
00:27.20cinixI don't really understand the updater.sh file, but maybe it has most of the control over what happens.
00:27.41kergothits a shell script
00:27.48kergoththat calls the flash write commands and everything
00:28.16cinixso if updater.sh calls all the commands, you need a working kernel and shell binary to reflash the PDA?
00:28.30cinixso if you somehow mess up the kernel is it possible to reflash with that method?
00:28.52kergoththe zaurus has an internal independent kernel and initial ramdisk for the flash process.
00:28.58kergothits on the same partition as the maintainance menu itself.
00:29.51cinixoh sweet.

00:44.29jcurrydo i need the updater.sh script on the cf card?
00:44.31jcurryto flash?
00:45.53hrw|tvjcurry: which zaurus?
00:47.54jcurryhrw|tv, 5600
00:47.59jcurryit doesn't flash!
00:48.07jcurryand I have no idea why...
00:48.25hrw|tv5600.. cannot help
00:48.34jcurryi can't rename the zimage file to zImage, it changes to lowercase when I copy it to the cf card...
00:48.46jcurryi assume that's due to fat16?
00:49.10hrw|tvyep
00:49.24hrw|tvthat FS doesn't have case sens names
00:49.30hrw|tvby default
00:51.06jcurryhmm...well, i put all three files on the cf card, shutdown, and followed the directions at openzaurus.org...
00:51.18jcurrybut both lights keep blinking
00:51.28kergothonce *again*, if the lights are blinking, it is NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE FILENAMES
00:51.36kergothhow many times do i have to tell you that?
00:52.12kergothjcurry: and the instructions on openzaurus.org where? afaik the only correct instructions are in the openembedded.org wiki.  check the 5600 instructions there.
00:53.10jcurrykergoth, ok...just mentioning all the info
00:53.14*** join/#openzaurus CoreDump|hom (~mhentges@xdsl-213-196-241-32.netcologne.de)
00:53.26jcurryi got the instructions from http://www.openzaurus.org/oz_website/content/installguide
00:53.30jcurryare these outdated?
00:53.44kergoththose instructions are for 5500 only.
00:53.57kergoththats the old web site. there's a reason it was taken down
00:54.05kergothopenzaurus.org no longer shows you that info
00:54.05jcurryoops :)
00:54.11jcurryI found it through google
00:54.11kergothagain, hit the openembedded wiki
00:54.13kergoththose are correct
00:54.25jcurryi'll use those
00:55.29jcurryyou should put in a robots.txt, to stop google
00:59.10jcurrythe oe wikie expressly stresses the capital I in zImage
00:59.15jcurrywiki*
00:59.32jcurry"Download the ROM image: zImage, initrd.bin, updater.sh. If the filenames are different, change them to the above or else the zaurus will not be able to find them. The filenames are case sensitive. Note the capital I in zImage, especially if copying to a vfat-formatted card."
01:01.06cinixI personally liked having access to those docs even though there outdated
01:02.26jcurryquestion: does flashing via usb work with a linux host?
01:02.54jcurrydo i need qtopia desktop to do this? will qtopia desktop flash oe/oz ?
01:03.12cinixjcurry: I don't remember renaming my zimage to zImage and i know it started off as zimage on my machine. this was on a 6000 so if it's such a pain to rename it for some reason i wouldn't put it on the top of your list of things to worry about
01:03.54cinixI haven't seen any docs on flashing over USB yet. come across any i'd love to read them
01:04.10jcurrycinix, not a pain, and it seems to have flashed fine...
01:04.23jcurrybut I was worried :)
01:04.39cinixdon't blame you
01:05.59jcurryeven though I got it 2 days ago
01:07.17cinixyea i've only had one a week
01:09.12jcurryhow do i move the cursor right in vi?
01:09.37jcurrythe right direction on the circle just prints a bunch of kernel messages
01:09.40hrw|tvpress joypad right?
01:09.45hrw|tvuse "l"?
01:10.51jcurryhow do i type esc?
01:10.58hrw|tvpress cancel
01:11.18jcurrythat prints a bunch of kernel messages too.
01:12.09hrw|tvvi rulez
01:16.20cinixall the keys aren't mapped correctly on the 6000 if you aren't running off the stock rom anymore
01:19.30cinixhehe
01:19.31cinixall?
01:19.33cinixsome
