00:30.26shadowsit's in an Sharp image format, i thin
00:30.28shadowsi think

00:31.11shadowsXorA|gone: what is your local.conf?  my kernel is built too big from .dev branch
00:32.47jebbashadows, so, also, if i  `dd if=/dev/mtdblock0 of=/home/jebba/zaurus.rom`    I can't mount the zaurus.rom` file ?
00:33.07andrewyyou have to format the zaurus.rom with a fs first
00:34.29jebbaok. Hmm, i'm just trying to wrap my head around how this thing's boot process works... I'll keep kicking it. ;)
00:35.19andrewytotally misread that, thought it was if=/dev/zero or something
00:35.37andrewyare you sure mtdblock0 is what you want?
00:38.50shadowsjebba: i have spitz hardware
00:38.58shadowsthe boot process works with magic and fairy dust
00:39.08shadowsbeyond magic and fairy dust, i have no idea
00:39.39|matt|Hey there shadows, I have looked and looked. If its there, I simply havn't found it.
00:41.03jebbaandrewy, well, it's just a chunk of data i'd like too look at if possible. ;)  I have borzoi, fwiw.
00:42.14jebbaLike i have a file "/boot/zImage"  which is a symlink to "/boot/zImage-2.4.20-rmk2-embedix".   But their ain't no zImage-2.4.20-rmk2-embedix file there.  Sooo, i'm just curious where the sucker is hiding. ;)
00:42.33andrewyah, no idea
00:42.46jebba|matt|, I think there are docs related to it on the "how to run opie & gpe at the same time.  google rboot perhaps.
00:42.51|matt|shadows: As it sits, I managed to get the latest kernel in there (I have chosen to go the route of 3.5.3 for the moment) but if  I perform an upgrade, whammo out of memory.
00:43.17andrewyyeah, you'll run out of memory without a SD/CF or something
00:43.26andrewyby memory i mean disk space :P
00:45.32|matt|So you _must_ move the root fs to effectively use OZ?
00:46.27andrewyi had to with my 5500
00:46.45|matt|ok. That is a tiny bit irritating.
00:46.52andrewyI could install a few things by moving /opt to /media/ram, symlinking it, and then installing things to ram instead of root
00:47.04andrewybut then it mysteriously stopped working after I installed too much, happened several times
00:48.27|matt|Ok, I have installed 32/32 . Is it possible for me to, without choking the system, update all of the currently installed packges?
00:51.03|matt|I have only seen moving the root fs to a ext2 formated sd card. Is it possible to do this from a vfat microdrive?
00:51.20|matt|Here I sit, doubting...
01:02.11|matt|What is the purpose of using a kernel other than 64/0 if you will need to use a card for root anyway?
01:06.04shadowsthe future idea is to do the whole rootfs on sd card
01:06.10shadowsand do away with the other images
01:06.27shadowsSD cards are cheap enough that it makes sense
01:09.23|matt|Fair enough, but, if I can't really use /mnt/ram, then why is it there?
01:13.05shadowsis it mounted?
01:13.18shadowsdo cat /proc/mounts
01:15.58andrewy|matt|: it's only there if you're not using a 64/0 kernel
01:19.55|matt|Yes, it is mounted.
01:20.41|matt|<andrewy>I understand that, but wouldn't it be more useful if it was simply part of the rootfs?
01:21.40|matt|Right now, I am out of space on my rootfs, but I have 32MB of space that is nearly unused.
01:22.21|matt|And from what I can see, it is only used by an inode tree and some directories...
01:30.19andrewyyes matt, but there's probably a technical reason why it can't be
01:30.25andrewyyou can install to ram
01:30.32andrewyipkg -d ram install package
01:32.05|matt|Ahh but the upgrade is failing because the packages have grown too much (for the available space)
01:32.09|matt|I get it.
01:32.18|matt|I'm gonna get an SD card.
01:32.39|matt|And then shoot myself with a freaking voracious wombat.
01:33.10andrewyheh
01:33.17andrewyyou can move stuff to /media/ram and create symlinks
01:33.29andrewybut it's worth buying a SD card
01:33.46andrewyjust make sure you get a fast enough one
01:35.56|matt|Any recomendations?
01:35.58|matt|That I can obtain this evening (everything closes in 30min here)
01:37.57|matt|Additionally, I already have a 1GB microdrive. What would be a good size? Do I really need 1GB or will 512MB do for now?
01:39.29andrewyI have a 256mb one, works fine but it's a bit slow (10x)
01:39.38andrewyget a SD card if you plan on using a wifi CF card
01:42.06|matt|It would be nice, but I really don't need it.
01:42.13|matt|Wifi that is.
01:43.12andrewyget something that's at least 10x, that's a bit slow but useable
01:43.30|matt|I will do that.
01:43.47|matt|Wally world has a 512 for $40.
01:43.54|matt|I'll have to look at that.
01:44.11|matt|But I suspect I will end up with whatever bestbuy has to offer.
01:44.18|matt|I just want this thing running.
01:44.25|matt|I'm tired of fooling with it.
01:44.46|matt|its neat, and I like it, but I want to actually use it.
01:44.51andrewyi got the pny 256mb one from bestbuy, make sure you look up their speeds elsewhere because bestbuy doesn't list them and most I checked were slow
01:45.14|matt|Thanks. Will do.

07:25.10kellyhanyone able to help get a Socket CF+ LP wlan card working with OZ 3.5.3/opie (henteges rom)? specifically i'm trying to get it to work with WPA
07:31.40alan|homekellyh: i've heard having wifi and cf storage working at the same time was really difficult, maybe impossible, yet. WPA is another problem. Anyway, i don't think what you want can be done with 3.5.3. wpa should work on 3.5.4, if i remember correctly. Maybe combo CF/Wifi cards will too, but i wouldn't bet on that...
07:32.11kellyhwell cf wifi on its own would be fine if i can get WPA working
07:32.41kellyh(the socket CF LP card is just wifi, no storage)
07:33.02alan|homeok, so this should work.
07:33.13kellyhi know the card works
07:33.26kellyhas i disabled encryption to test it and it set up and worked flawlessly
07:33.35kellyhso it is really it seems a matter of getting it to work with WPA
07:33.43alan|homeabout WPA, i don't know how it works, i've never been able to configure it on my desktop, so i didn't even try on zaurus...
07:33.57alan|homebut
07:34.11kellyhi got WPA working on the 3 laptops here, just the zaurus left to get working with it
07:34.30kellyh(Linux drivers for rt2500 cards work out of the box with WPA i found)
07:34.30alan|homei really think this WPA is one of the great improvement of 3.5.4...
07:34.43kellyhit is still in RC isn't it?
07:34.49alan|homeyep
07:35.04kellyhI think I'll wait till the final release for now
07:35.17kellyhas all else works... tho i've not worked out how to configure bluetooth yet
07:36.35kellyhi think i'll tackle the wifi first
07:36.46kellyhit may be i have to switch to WEP for a while
07:40.36alan|homewep works fine, even though it's not top security level...

08:59.51hrw|workkellyh: which Zaurus you have?
09:08.44prhmorning
09:23.11kellyhhrw|work: SL-5500
09:24.35hrw|workkellyh: you need fresh kernel (not released yet) to get WPA working rather
09:24.46hrw|workkellyh: which OZ you run?
09:24.55kellyhhrw|work: henteges 3.5.3
09:25.11hrw|workkellyh: with so called 'r21' kernel?
09:25.17kellyhthink so yeh
09:30.11kellyhso WPA needs later than r21 kernel for the 5500?
09:32.35hrw|worksomeone told that got it working with r21 but I'm not sure..
09:33.12hrw|workI can provide you 64/0 kernel with WE18 so wpa should work
09:34.13kellyhand i'd just install that in place of the current henteges one? ie a reflash?
09:34.36hrw|workyep - should work
09:34.44hrw|workbut also can not work
09:35.09kellyhwell it can't hurt too much to try

09:36.55kellyhi'll give that a try later on when i'm more awake
09:37.45kellyhif that works, should the config simply be a case of putting correct details into wpa_supplicant.conf or is there other places i need to config?
09:38.54hrw|workprobably - never used WPA
09:39.24kellyhi'll try it this evening when i've time (got lots ot sort out today) and will let you know if it works
