00:01.05thejapah2200 got a different bootloader than the regular bootloader/bootblaster other ipaqs uses, so I'm not sure other ipaqs can do such tricks.
00:01.14FlikkerI think I screwed something up... I was running 3.5.4.1-rc4 on my c3100, tried to flash it to 3.5.4.1 release and now I'm stuck in the altboot menu... (no opie)
00:02.40zedkatuf|desktopmd5sums ok?
00:03.51Flikkeryeah... I'm going to redownload... reflash... etc... but I did it exactly the same way I did the 3.5.4.1-rc4 (without the fdisk since I wasn't running OZ before)
00:03.54zedkatuf|desktop...gonna leave the 3200 upgrading whilst I (try to!!) sleep
00:04.12zedkatuf|desktopdid u give nuff space for / ?
00:04.28zedkatuf|desktopaaah..yes...
00:04.28Flikkeryeah... no errors during install
00:04.41zedkatuf|desktopu must've done to have got rc4 installed
00:06.34zedkatuf|desktopsame CF card?
00:07.10Flikkeryup
00:07.35zedkatuf|desktopGeneral Q to all: I get a kernel mismatch on bootup after ipkg upgrade.....any easy way to avoid this (pls don't say "reflash"!)

02:27.51Zectbumowhat is the difference between gpe and opie?
02:34.24poushagzectbumo, i have tried both recently - gpe seems to be getting more development right now, but the ui for opie seems to require less clicks to navigate and is a bit more similar to regular guis
02:34.50poushagalso depends on what apps you consider most important
02:34.57poushagbrb
02:35.12Zectbumopoushag, have you tried installing 3.5.4.1 yet?
02:36.55poushagim on it already - hentges rom for collie
02:37.28poushagwith opie-cardfs + the other apps i added
02:37.42poushagwhich Z do you have?
02:37.53ZectbumoI tried installing it with no success
02:38.28poushagi gotta go for a bit - back in about 10 min
02:38.30ZectbumoI copied the files to my SD card and did the OK boot, then upgrade, the it restarted, and nothing happened.  still in japanese

05:44.36Zectbumopoushag: ok, I will purchase a CF memory card
05:45.29poushagwhere are you btw?
05:45.46Zectbumocalifornia
05:46.04poushagi got a 1GB CF 2 weeks ago for $50
05:46.21Zectbumoyou know what, that makes sense, because after it reboots it looks for /mnt/card/$SHELL something
05:46.45poushagwhich Z do you have?
05:46.50Zectbumoc3200
05:47.05poushagok i guess you dont really even need the SD
05:47.22ZectbumoI have a 1GB SD
05:47.27poushagyou should be able to install all apps internally
05:47.50poushagSD is good for storing backups though with a wifi card if the cf slot
05:48.19poushagi have my backups on a fat partition so i could restore tham to another Z if necessary
05:48.27poushags/tham/them
05:48.39Zectbumowell, I'm also finding that I don't know how to install packages from the command line.  most documentation says to use ipkg mypackage.ipk but I don't have ipkg command
05:49.11poushagwell you wont have that until you finish flashiing OZ onto it
05:49.24Zectbumoah
05:49.45Zectbumoipkg is an openzaurus thing?
05:49.59Zectbumoright now I have japanaese qtopia
05:51.11poushagnot sure - but the OZ apps are compiled for the OZ ROMs - so even if you had ipkg on current ROM youd still have to flash the OZ ROM instead
05:51.46poushagwhat kind of tasks will you do with the Z?
05:53.02Zectbumopoushag, I would like to have mp3/ogg player, video player, wifi browser, python, ssh
05:53.26poushagOZ has ssh running by default
05:54.29poushagas for the rest, im not sure which gui is more suitable but try gpe for a while and then try opie would be my suggestion
05:55.06poushagor try opie first then gpe - doesnt really matter in which order
05:55.11Zectbumook :)
05:55.58Zectbumogetting anything installed is my first step
05:56.06poushagif it were me, id make a backup of the first one i tried to the sd and then start over with the next one (keeping it all internal)
05:56.22Zectbumooh, is it possible to install from the harddrive?  I can take the harddrive out and put it in my card reader
05:57.16poushagyou should try that - i dont know the answer but i wouldnt be surprised if it works
05:58.30Zectbumook, I would have to get familiar with how the installer works
05:59.27poushagit can tbe that complex - just try it - put the zimage and initrd.bin on the root of the drive
05:59.46poushags/can t/cant /
06:00.01Zectbumopoushag, one more question I have is why do they use a microdrive instead of CF?
06:00.42poushagi dont really know - cf is more robust (i.e. survives being dropped and has no moving parts to wear out)
06:01.00poushagi think you could replace it with cf if you like
06:01.03Zectbumopoushag, well I think I would have to change something in the install script because the first thing it does is fail running /mnt/card/$SOMESHELL
06:01.48Zectbumopoushag, so if I bouth a 4GB CF card I could get away with replacing the microdrive? might save batteries too?
06:01.57poushagcheck back here tomorrow - zedkatuf aka audela just got a 3200 - he would know for sure
06:02.05Zectbumos/bouth/bought/
06:02.36poushagi believe so but again i will defer to zed, who seems to visit here every day
06:02.37Zectbumopoushag, where are you from?

06:03.25poushagoooold sl-5500 (aka collie)
06:03.48Zectbumohay, I have one of those (black case, b/w screen?)
06:04.00poushagbut i like it - small size and does what i need
06:04.34poushagno its a color screen in a silver case
06:04.53Zectbumooh, then I have an even old old older one

22:15.33DrBoBanyone in here able to get mplayer to play realaudio content? NASA TV audio is only in .ra and I would like to listen in
22:16.56radugano. the codecs are proprietary
22:17.25radugamplayer will play real content on i386, using DLLs from i386 windows,
22:17.26DrBoBhmmm..I thought that might have changed since Helix
22:17.35radugano, the codecs are *still* proprietary
22:17.51radugahelix opened the container format
22:18.17DrBoBbleh... that is teh 5ux..
22:19.20DrBoBguess I'll have to use something other than my zaurus to listen in..thanks for the input...I've been pullin out my hair
22:20.46radugawell, hmm
22:21.00radugaffmpeg has reverse-engineered support for a few *very* old Real codecs
22:21.24radugaits remotely possible that NASA TV uses a codec that's been cracked
22:22.52DrBoBI'll look into that... I'm using Cacko ROM at the moment though... wonder if I can get ffmpeg to run in this environment
22:23.45radugaI'm pretty sure ffmpeg is part of the standard mplayer
