04:19.06xp_ruleshi everybody
04:19.26xp_rulesI am getting the following error from mod_jk2
04:19.34xp_rules[jk_endpoint.c (90)]: workerEnv.init() create slot epStat.3 failed
04:19.42xp_rules<PROTECTED>
04:24.35tang^haven't seen that one before
04:25.52xp_rulestang, did you ever connect apache with tomcat?
04:26.11tang^tomcat 4.1.24, apache 2.0.44
04:26.32xp_rulesgreat, I think mine should be similar, finally I found the place where jk2 outputs its error messages
04:26.42xp_rulesfirst of all, basically I have the following configuration
04:26.51xp_rulesmod_jk, tomcat 4.xxx and apache 1.3.27
04:27.02xp_rulesI have the correct version of mod_jk version
04:27.07xp_rulesops :)
04:27.08tang^you started off saying the error was mod_jk2
04:27.22xp_ruleswhat?
04:27.28tang^< xp_rules> I am getting the following error from mod_jk2
04:27.36xp_rulesyes, so?
04:27.56tang^just clarifying
04:28.00xp_rulesoh, ok
04:28.09tang^I'm just mod_jk2 with apache2... it's a different beast
04:28.11xp_rulesyeah, basically the connection thing doesn't work right now, that's the problem
04:28.43xp_rulesok, I think, I am probably making an easy to fix mistake here, and I just need to clarify things with someone who already did these things
04:29.04xp_rulesfirst of all, what I want to understand is that, what is this socket vs the other thing
04:29.22xp_rulesI mean, what does it mean it is through socket or something else, I am on windows by the way now
04:29.41xp_rulesI forgot the name of the other method now, actually I am not sure if there is a direct name
04:30.55xp_ruleswhat is this: [jk_config.c (423)]: config.update(): Can't create channel.jni:jni
04:31.01xp_rulesI don't use jni, what is jni here
04:31.13tang^did you specify jni in a config file somewhere?
04:31.23xp_ruleslet me check it out
04:31.35xp_rulesops, yes, the recent one has it
04:32.09xp_ruleswhat is jni by the way?
04:32.14xp_ruleswhy do I need to use it
04:32.20tang^Java Native Interface
04:32.41tang^it calls a C DLL to provide API access to apache
04:32.43xp_rulesok, so what is the connection with jni to tomcat? I mean, why do you specify that
04:33.02xp_ruleshmm, so, if I don't include it, I can't make such calls?
04:33.22tang^it allows apache to start tomcat whenever it gets a servlet call
04:33.55xp_ruleshmm, I see, that's a great information, thx
04:34.02xp_rulesso here is the error I am getting now
04:34.03xp_rules[jk_env.c (298)]: env.createBean2(): Factory error creating vm: ( vm,
04:34.09xp_rules[jk_config.c (423)]: config.update(): Can't create vm:
04:35.12xp_rulestang^: r u there?
04:35.24tang^thinking
04:35.29tang^about bed
04:35.47tang^about the fact that I have only experienced jk2 which is, I'm told, quite different than jk
04:35.59tang^I don't believe I know the answers you seek
04:36.13xp_rulesI think this should be related with environment variable or something

10:35.33xp_ruleshi guys
10:35.35xp_rulesanybody here?
10:35.58donalNo it is very quite.
10:36.33xp_rulesgood
10:36.36xp_rulesdo you know tomcat
10:37.19donalA little. I use it a bit but not an expert.
10:38.33xp_ruleswhy do you use tomcat or like why java?
10:41.15donalBeacuse it rules :-)
10:41.41xp_rulesno, I mean for what do you use it
10:43.39donalOh, sorry, just for a small website for managing a business service which is currently completely manual. Struts, Hibernate, MySQL, JavaMail - still manual steps will be required.
10:44.52donalJust me developeing it at the moment, but others will eventually take over.
10:48.17xp_rulesi see
10:48.21xp_ruleswhy not mod_perl and perl?
10:50.38*** join/#tomcat Brick2 (~Brick@pcp01873671pcs.phnixv01.pa.comcast.net)
10:50.51donalI need to use a programming language, Perl is a scripting language, I do not like it, also the other developer does not know Perl, few enough people do.
10:51.53xp_rulesso what do you think of java as an environment for developing web applications
10:52.12xp_rulesI found perl quite easy to use, especially for fast applications, but it lacks a dicipline
10:52.23xp_rulesit lets you do things that you shouldn't for the long term
10:55.34donalWell you can always write very bad Java code as well, however using technologies such as Struts you can create a very maintainable system that can be very easily extended, it is also very powerful.
10:56.08*** join/#tomcat test_ (~chatzilla@lns-th2-5-82-64-211-21.adsl.proxad.net)
10:56.16donalAll display is seperated from controller and business logic - which is always a good thing.
10:56.40xp_rulesyou can do the same for perl too, that idea doesn't change much
10:56.55xp_rulesbut maintaining the code in perl is so damn hard
11:00.05donalYes, I use eclipse which makes maintaing the code much easier - easy struts gies a GUI view on your structs config etc. - I just can not find a decent XML editor (XML Spy is so damn expensive for an unemployed person)
11:03.13xp_rulesI tried XML Spy, and I don't know why people like it so much, emacs is quite good
11:06.13donalWithout a DTD it is only so so, but when you have the proper DTD or schema in your XML file then creating and editing and viewing XML is so easy, all the unneccessary syantic fluff is hidden, you just edit the data.
11:12.32xp_ruleshmm, I really didn't use DTD, didn't have to
11:12.44xp_rulesso far I didn't find a use for it
11:13.04xp_rulesI guess it is only useful when you work with others and either you have to open others' files or vice versa
11:15.04donalI always used it with my ant build files, it is so useful not to have to bother looking up the manual, xMLSpy prompts you with the possibilities/required from the DTD.
11:18.51xp_ruleshmmm, I see
11:18.56xp_ruleswhy do you use DTD?
11:21.17donalANt will produce one for you from the loaded taks target antstructure, for a new task you just put it in the ant lib directory and viola a DTD.
11:22.37donalmust go.
11:27.52xp_rulesbye

21:15.27jasonbIt seems they've cleaned up the build system significantly (finally!), and according to folks on the dev list, the request processing pipeline creates much less garbage to be gc'd (better performance), plus it's been better optimized (even more performance improvement).
