10:15.23rreckcan tomcat run perl scripts ?
10:34.46rnarreck: I thought tomcat is for running Java Servlets.
10:34.58rreckit is
10:35.11rreckeverywhere i ask this people try to correct me
10:35.21rrecki know i know, but this is what i want to do
10:35.30rnaThe question is, why?
10:36.06rreckthis si requirements driven, why do i want to do it at all, or why do i want to do it this way ?
10:36.26rnamaybe you can run perl scripts by a servlet?
10:36.48rrecki read and tried to follow the instruction in the tomcat docs
10:37.05rreckbut for somereason it doesnt execute the script it displays it
10:39.19a4akbI think websphere runs pearl scripts
10:40.16rreckyeah i need to try to accomplish this with as little added software as possible
10:48.21a4akbtomcat doesnot support pearl scripts
10:48.24a4akbnot in my knowledge
10:48.32a4akb-not
10:52.14rreckit seems like it supports running external programs of which perl is just one
10:53.00a4akbi am sorry, am not aware.
10:53.16rreckat least you havent flamed me for asking
11:54.49rnarreck: we're not worthy for doing that
11:54.51rna;)
11:58.04rreckheh, well ive been roasted and corrected all morning overit

14:14.01lrnobsIs there a simple way to only allow valid requests to pass to Tomcat, like a list of valid jsps and graphics, and just drop all others like "cmd.exe, root.exe, etc"?  I have found general statements about using filter in web.xml or using valves but I can't find any specific examples.

14:48.20evilandI am getting the class not found for my bean. It is in a package, and I have read the FAQ at http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/faq/classnotfound.html#usebean .. However, on that page..I do not understand what the "fully qualified class name is".  Curently I am doing "logonBean.logon".  I put directory logonBean in side a classes directory inside a WEB-INF directory i created.  My JSP file is in the same level as the logonBean dir.  Any ideas

17:22.24IRCTarryI never had it before and tomcat worked.  Has something changed?
17:24.52IRCTarryYou are not going to beleive this.  I went into the tomcat bin directory and did a bash startup.sh and tomcat came up
17:25.19IRCTarryI have no idea why the original starttup script does not work
