03:38.40TwinsenTsangThe shutdown hook i registered does not execute when the tomcat stop normally through shutdown command. I would like to ask if this is normal behavior of tomcat.

14:41.12doktoreasany idea?
14:41.45MHSLdoktoreas, which directory did you copy your webapp to? where did you put your context file?
14:41.59MHSLdoktoreas, which servlet/jsp spec are you using?
14:43.04*** join/#tomcat Elvanor (n=elvanor@gentoo/developer/elvanor)
14:43.11FreenodeThx for ur answer MHSL, but thats not what I'm looking for :-) I use the JNDI-Realm in server.xml, commended in the Help file http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/realm-howto.html#JNDIRealm. If I snoop the packets I see that my server connects to the LDAP server and gets information, but it will not authenticate the user. My guess is that I've the wrong role/group rule in the realm
14:43.28ElvanorHow do I change the domain path for session cookies in Tomcat?
14:43.43Elvanor(Gentoo Linux, Java Sun JDK 1.6, Tomcat 6.0.16)
14:44.23ElvanorThis is what I had to put in Jetty during development, for example:
14:44.25Elvanor<Item>org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.SessionPath</Item>
14:47.59doktoreasHi MHSL, I put the folder in /usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps/ and the context file in /usr/share/tomcat5.5/conf/Catalina/localhost/
14:48.30MHSLdoktoreas, is /usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps set as your appbase in your server.xml?
14:49.13Elvanoris starting to wonder if changing this is even possible in Tomcat !!?
14:50.12ElvanorI have my webapp deployed to the /sample context in Tomcat, however I run a proxy in front of Tomcat, which adds "/sample" to the urls, so I really need this...
14:50.46ElvanorAs currently the cookie is set on "/sample" but the browser never sees /sample url,
14:50.49Elvanorurls
14:51.02doktoreasMHSL, yes
14:51.21doktoreasMHSL, now the error is FAIL - Failed to deploy application at context path /usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps/wrme.xml
14:51.47MHSLdoktoreas, what's the name of the directory in /usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps that you copied over? what's the context file name?
14:52.04doktoreasthe folder is called wrme
14:52.11doktoreasand the context is wrme.xml
14:52.26doktoreashttp://rafb.net/p/cx42az15.html this is the context file
14:52.48MHSLdoktoreas, that's the reason why, your wrme.xml clashed with your web app name
14:53.21doktoreaswhat should I do now?
14:53.30MHSLdoktoreas, if you put your web app under appbase directory, you must not put a context file with the same name as the web app directory name in conf/Catalina/localhost
14:53.54MHSLdoktoreas, either you remove your context file and put it under your web app META-INF directory or put your web app outside the appbase directory (/usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps)
14:54.59MHSLdoktoreas, the reason is if you put any directory inside the appbase directory (/usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps), tomcat will use the folder name as the context path, hence you cannot define another static context xml file in conf/Catalina/host
14:55.42doktoreasso can I deploy it also without a conxtext file?
14:56.15MHSLdoktoreas, yes, however if you need to add any additional configs to your context, then you need to put it under META-INF directory in your web app directory
14:56.58doktoreasthx for all your explinations, I just noticed that in the app folder there's not a META-INF folder
14:57.08doktoreasI'll create it and let you know how is going :)
14:57.09MHSLdoktoreas, that's optional
14:58.39doktoreasFAIL - Failed to deploy application at context path /usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps/wrme/META-INF/wrme.xml
14:58.50Elvanor*bump:* How do I change the domain path for session cookies in Tomcat?
14:59.12MHSLdoktoreas, you should name the context file as context.xml instead of wrme.xml
15:01.15doktoreasMHSL, still the same error :(
15:01.49MHSLdoktoreas, what's the error this time? do you put any docbase in your context.xml? if yes you have to remove it
15:02.09MHSLdoktoreas, i think you need to read more on how context in tomcat work
15:02.35doktoreashttp://rafb.net/p/cx42az15.html this is the context.xml
15:02.54MHSLas i said remove the docbase
15:02.55doktoreasyep sorry, I think I'll read better the doc
15:03.15FreenodeQuestion is: How must a JNDI realm entry look like, when all users included in LDAP should have access to the webapp.
15:08.08doktoreasMHSL, now is working
15:08.13doktoreasthank you very much :D

20:03.39vanksianyone using tomcats in 'real world' scenarios? i am wondering how many tomcats per processor is the optimal amount
20:05.28vanksilike on a dual quad-core system with 8gb of ram, is 10 tomcats with 5 apps each better than 25 tomcats with 2 apps each, performance wise
20:05.43vanksiwhen the apps are identical
20:11.00pfndepends on your load profile
20:11.31pfnand running 25 tomcat processes is bound to have too much overhead
20:16.03vanksipfn, what do you mean by load profile? bwt, how much overhead do clustered tomcats cause, like if i went a head and duplicated every instance per server
20:16.13vanksiin active/active conf
20:16.26vanksiactive/passive wouldn't make much sense i guess
20:17.55vanksiand another unrelated question, does anyone use anything but check_http to monitor their tomcat instances with nagios?
