00:02.04kmjasonb: when the system run out of disk space, tomcat stall. do know what cause it to stall (why)? even clearing out filesystem to make space tomcat still hung until the app is recyle.
00:05.47jasonbkm: The event of running out of disk space is about the worst, other than the machine being rebooted, or a memory chip corrupting memory regions.  Tomcat cannot really recover gracefully to disk space exhaustion situations, even after clearing more space.  It would require a restart.
00:07.38kmso you must restart tomcat when it hung due to running out of disk space?

00:13.03kmi guess i maybe able to see why the tomcat process hang with strace or pstack?
00:40.49jasonbIt probably hung due to some container and/or connector threads dying due to exceptions caused by the disk space exhaustion.

I don't get a log in the $CATALINA_HOME/logs folder for hudson, but see them for the manager app. I'm wondering if there is anything special i need to do to get it to log out so I can try to track down why it isn't working?

14:25.49sveajobbHi, I'm having a problem with tomcat contexts. I have an application in webapps/hostname/application and I want application to be the default application for hostname.. this works as a charm with the settings I'm having now
14:26.14sveajobbthe problem is TWO contexts are created. one for / and one for /application
14:26.24*** part/#tomcat devdvd (n=jblane@173-31-167-213.client.mchsi.com)
14:26.51sveajobbwhat else do you need for helping me :) and what could possibly be wrong?
14:27.17sveajobbI have a context-path like this. <Context path="" docBase="application" debug="5" reloadable="true" crossContext="true">

14:35.33deebothis and much more can be learned by...... RTFM!
14:35.51deeboadd myapp.war if applicable
14:36.25deebomove your hosts appbase if you dont want to it automatically include everything
14:37.13sveajobbso you mean I should "fake" a appBase in order to prevent multiple loading of the same application?
14:37.28deeboor use a non default Host implementation
14:37.38deebolike the documentation says http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/config/host.html#Automatic%20Application%20Deployment
14:37.46*** join/#tomcat acarbs12 (n=acarbone@173.9.89.1)
14:38.04deeboby default all folders and .war's in the appBase get their own Context
14:40.25sveajobbI can understand why that would happen, but I fail to see why I cannot say / is an alias for /application
14:40.58sveajobbbecause then I get  / -> link to /application    and /application -> another context but same dir/path/whatever
15:01.50sveajobbI finally found a reasonable solution. if you name the war-file/application ROOT it will not be loaded twice

15:19.23sveajobbok, scratch that. appearantly the ROOT.war cannot be redeployed. anonye knows if there is just some simple setting anywhere for allowing that?
15:27.02randrewjBSSop_MikaelN: your tomcat and jdk versions are rather past their good-until date
15:29.41sveajobbit seems the ROOT.war is properly redeployed if I remove the <Context> tag from server.xml, however I need that one

23:07.37superemilyWhen the number of database connections grows, is the server.xml file ever referenced, or is it stored in cache (again, so if server.xml is deleted from the file system after start up, will apps with database connections still function)?
