06:20.26sunitsinghI am using sun java 6 in ubuntu 10.04 LTS server with tomcat6
06:22.03sunitsinghIn /etc/defaults/tomcat6 file there is place to set JAVA_OPTS which is by default set to AVA_OPTS="${JAVA_OPTS} -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC"
06:22.49sunitsinghyou can see the file in url http://dpaste.de/0QxK/
06:24.09sunitsinghBut we have to set it as JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Xms384M -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M as per documentation for installation of an erp
06:25.23sunitsinghShall we change or keep it defaults ? I mean are both equivalent ?

18:14.11hendrik1Hey guys! My tomcat (6.0.32) suddenly stops running multiple times a day. pid gets properly deleted, nothing in catalina.out. It tends to happen when the load on the server goes up, though RAM and CPU are far from maxed out. I watched the waiting connections, object counts, RAM usage, but I couldn't find a pattern. Anybody have an idea how to debug this stuff? (Java version is 1.6.0_22" on Ubuntu 10.04)
18:20.41hendrik1Any ideas or documentation pointers?

18:21.34jasonbhendrik1: The JVM disappears?
18:21.55hendrik1jasonb: That's right
18:22.15jasonbIf you have the full source to your webapp(s), do a search in the source for 'System.exit(' ..
18:22.54jasonbAlso, what do your log files last say when you notice the JVM isn't running?  Is Tomcat saying it's shutting down?  And, can you put that on a paste server such as http://fpaste.org so we can look?
18:23.24randrewjhendrik1: do you permit user input of text that is parsed as a float number?
18:24.28hendrik1jasonb: That's my main problem, there is no entry in the log. When i do a proper shutdown, it get's logged.
18:25.50hendrik1randrewj: I run multiple webapps on there, there sure could be such a parameter. But I don't find any exceptions in the logs
18:26.25jasonbhendrik1: Are you saying you have zero log lines in your catalina.out log file?

18:26.48jasonbhendrik1: As in.. it never logs anything at all to catalina.out?
18:28.28hendrik1jasonb: Stuff get's logged (e.e). But there is nothing that looks like a real error. And when tomcat was shut down, the log says nothing out of the ordinary
18:28.54hendrik1e.g. for logs: No mapping found for HTTP request with URI [ …]
18:29.34hendrik1(I know the reason for that, though :)
18:30.21hendrik1jasonb: Just greped the sources of my webapps, no System.exits there

18:44.09randrewjhendrik1: does catalina.out say stuff like "org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService stop" near the end?
18:44.44hendrik1randrewj: No, nothing like that
18:54.03jasonbhendrik1: Look in your /etc/default/tomcat6 file and find the JAVA_HOME setting in there (not whatever is in your shell), then use that path to get the output of "java -version" and paste it in here.  Example command to get it: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/java -version
18:57.09hendrik1jasonb: The JAVA_HOME setting in the default/tomcat6 is commented out. I can tell from the process list that the sun jre is used. java -version says:
18:57.10hendrik1java version "1.6.0_22"
18:57.10hendrik1Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04)

19:04.47tuxxieI have a an app that has javascript which allways is using localhost as the server name rather than the hostname or ipaddress used to access the app. I am very new to tomcat can someone help me change tomcat to use the address in the webbrowser rather than always defaulting to localhost?

21:08.14kihajiOr any thoughts on how to better do custom authentication/authorization within the container so that I can use Annotations for access control?

21:49.39DarkStar1Hi I'm hoping someone here can help or act as a bounce board as to why I have my problem with Tomcat.
21:58.03DarkStar1Essentially, the webapp uploads a file to the server but on trying to view the file I get a 404 message with the file path returned in the error message but when I look at the file path itself the file does exist in the folder
21:58.57DarkStar1Also if I redeploy the app the file will be served but anything uploaded or created after re-deployment causes a 404 error.
