00:30.36b3d0u1nHow can you restart Luna from the shell if it's hung?  What processes need kill and restarted?
00:31.52*** join/#webos-internals panel (~panel@home.panel.sk)
00:35.46Frostb3d0u1n: it's probably documented somewhere on the wiki, but this should do it: initctl stop LunaSysMgr && initctl start LunaSysMgr
00:36.49b3d0u1nThanks.  I tried going to the single user startup levels earlier then just running upstart again, but I went to the shutdown runlevel by mistake :)

04:59.02webosludditeanyone alive out there?
04:59.32ka6sox-awayno
05:00.01webosludditeI know my chances are slim... sprint frankenpre2, the 2.2.4 update ran somehow despite my determined no-clicking, and I've got the dreaded palm.com/ROM screen
05:00.11webosludditeI know I can doctor, and the meta script is running now...
05:00.21webosludditein the meantime, do I have any hope at all of getting at my usb storage?
05:01.02webosludditebattery pull/vol up/usb cable in/battery in procedure does show the usb icon, but it doesn't show as a drive
05:01.20ka6sox-awaydrive implys the unit is working
05:01.31ka6sox-awayas in booted up
05:01.37webosludditeyeah... clearly that's not my status
05:01.39webosluddite;)
05:01.54webosludditeis there any backdoor to copy stuff off?  some novaproxy voodoo maybe?
05:02.25ka6sox-awaynovaterm works with bootie but bootie only does a limited number of things
05:02.57webosludditeI don't suppose one of those things is "tar up the media/internal partition and give it to me here"?
05:03.17ka6sox-awayjcsullins, might be nice to create a minimal ramfs that can allow you to do that.
05:03.59ka6sox-awaywebosluddite, at this point...I am saying NO...
05:04.33webosludditebuummmmmer
05:05.13webosludditealthough, if I was ever looking for an excuse for leaving the platform, the "you're a dumbass, no more files for you" category works pretty well
05:05.15webosludditepoop
05:05.19webosludditethanks!
05:06.03webosluddite(and yes - jcsullins, it would be super-nice to create a method to last-ditch copy off files from a brick such as this one.)
05:06.15webosludditeif that sort of thing should happen, email me - tim at gmara . org
05:06.45webosludditein the meantime, sleep well and dream of new web os devices all
05:06.52ka6sox-awaywebosluddite, oooookay
05:07.15ka6sox-awayremember..its not HPalms fault that you made a frankenpre2
05:07.26webosludditenope, I totally get that
05:07.47webosludditeand its definitely not their fault that I didn't backup everything the second I heard 2.2.4 was coming out
05:08.15webosludditeit *is* their fault for stopping hardware production for the best mobile os ever though.  -mourn-
05:08.30ka6sox-awaywebosluddite, yes, that is the case...
05:08.43webosludditebe well all!
05:08.46webosludditeout
05:08.52ka6sox-awaybut it *should* be possible to make it work on other devices in the future

23:47.16BrianH3Hi, everyone.  I'm on a Fedora box.  I got novacom to run, but palm-install hangs when I try to install a program on my Pre.  I issue "palm-install -d usb org.webosinternals.preware.ipk and it just sits there forever, never finishing.  I tried installing WebOS Quick Install , but that hangs too, unless I specify the emulator.  Any suggestions?
23:47.57rwhitbyBrianH3: http://install.preware.org/
23:48.06rwhitbyBrianH3: can you connect to the device using novaterm?
23:48.42BrianH3No. Novaterm hangs too.
23:49.47rwhitbyMy suggestion is to use Ubuntu to get the job done then.
23:50.45rwhitby(Nothing against Fedora, but you need to decide whether you're going to spend your time trying to get this to work, or using Preware)
23:51.01BrianH3Oh, okay.  Gotta go find Ubuntu then.  Thanks.  That should do the trick.  Looks like everything was written w/ Ubuntu in mind. :)
23:51.41rwhitbyYes, Palm supports Ubuntu as their primary Linux platform.
23:53.27BrianH3I just realized (after looking at the instructions you pointed me to) that I didn't run WebosDoctor.  I just ran it and shut it down when it asked me to connect my phone (since I know that would do Bad Things).  Maybe I'll have more luck now.  If not, I'll try w/ a Ubuntu thumb drive.

23:55.32EricBladei build my meta-doctors on Fedora, that works fine.
23:56.01EricBladeI haven't bothered to figure out how to get the USB connection to my virtual system, though
23:56.28BrianH3Well, running webosdoctor didn't do the trick.  Guess I'm off to Ubuntuland. :)
