14:29.02MrokiiHello. Is there a problem with the preware-servers? It seems I can't download any updates. The download message comes up but it doesn't actually download the updates.
14:38.12HaDAki don't have my touchpad on hand to test
14:38.23HaDAkand i don't recall off teh top of my head if it logs or not
14:38.54HaDAkcan you pull off /var/log/messages and push it up for analysis?
14:39.02HaDAkif it logs, that's where it should log to
14:45.23MrokiiI'll see if I can access the file.
14:47.16HaDAkif you've got the sdk installed, it should be trivial to pull it off.
14:56.59MrokiiI don't know if I have any kind of sdk installed. I just plugged my Pre 3 in, thinking there'd be a "/var" folder but I don't see it. (Looking at the folder structure via Terminal at the moment).
15:00.26HaDAki'm going to be of limited help while i'm on this customer webex
15:00.35MrokiiOkay, no problem.
15:00.37HaDAkbut while i'm waiting for them to connect, i'll try to dig up more instructions for you
15:00.47HaDAkif you don't hear from me for a while, i haven't forgotten ;D
15:00.59MrokiiNo worries, I'm not in a hurry.
15:01.46HaDAkhttp://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Portal:Accessing_Linux
15:01.53MrokiiI was just wondering what was going on. It's strange that I can see that there are updates but that the updates themselves aren't downloaded.d
15:02.07HaDAkwell, we won't know until we look at the logs
15:02.15HaDAknovaterm will get you a shell on it
15:02.23HaDAkfrom there, it's standard faire linux more or less

15:03.24HaDAkyou can copy messages to the internal storage (if memory serves, it's /dev/mapper/store-media…but double check me on that)
15:03.27HaDAkand then yank it off
15:06.21MrokiiI'll try. Seems as if I did install the sdk at some point. :)
15:07.04HaDAkit's helpful that webos is so open. we can actually get in and properly troubleshoot stuff with real tools.
15:10.24MrokiiSo what is store-media exactly? How do I copy something to it? Something like "cp /var/log/messages /dev/mapper/store-media"?
15:10.43HaDAkyeah
15:10.53HaDAkit's the sdcard partition more or less
15:10.58HaDAkcan't remember the exact path
15:11.05MrokiiOkay, I'll try.
15:13.22MrokiiAnd after the cp-command?
15:17.47HaDAkonce it's on the sd card, you should be able to pull it off in disk mode
15:17.56HaDAkthen pop it up somewhere and send me a link to dig through
15:18.55MrokiiI think that cp-command broke something, possibly overwritng store-media, not sure. Luckily I had made a backup.
15:19.34HaDAkwell, i did say double check the path. :P
15:19.47MrokiiWell, I don't know what path I should use.
15:20.33HaDAkgive me a second to get off this call.
15:20.45MrokiiSure. And thanks.
15:22.03MrokiiThe files I have in /dev/mapper/ are "control" and a bunch of files which all start with "store-": cryptodb, crptofilecache, filecache, log, media, mojodb, root, swap, update and var.

16:03.43MrokiiHaDAk: I think by breaking the phone I fixed the problem with PreWare. :)
16:04.32MrokiiI rebooted the device as the backup-file of store-media didn't work properly. I had to reinstall Preware but now it downloaded and installed the app I wanted to have.
16:09.36HaDAkXD
16:09.41HaDAkexcellent
16:09.47HaDAksorry, i had some stuff come up
16:09.52HaDAki've gotta run now, but i'll be back in a bit.
16:52.28*** join/#webos-internals HaDAk (~skipmeist@c-71-227-127-64.hsd1.mi.comcast.net)
16:54.28HaDAkis back.
16:54.52HaDAkso, you said that preware was able to install the app?
16:54.57HaDAkyou're good to go?
16:55.16MrokiiI have a new problem now. I installed FreeTether and it works but it seems I can't change the network connection from "open" to anything else. It doesn't seem as the list reacts to clicks.
16:55.20MrokiiHaDAk: Yep.
16:55.32MrokiiInstalling apps works again.
16:55.44MrokiiSeems everything works.
16:55.53HaDAkiirc, you can install lumberjack to watch the logs for freetether
16:56.07HaDAkit'll just troll /var/log/messages and snipe out freetether stuff
16:56.24MrokiiInteresting.
17:06.07MrokiiI can open WiFi Prefs but then I can't change the option for "security" which is set to "Open". Lumberjack doesn't show any errors. The only messages are "About to activate scene wifiPrefs" and ""transition ended", which I assume is to show the prefs. But actually changing an option does nothing.
17:11.29HaDAkright
17:11.32HaDAkhum
17:18.12MrokiiNot particularly intriguing to have a wide open WiFi Network for everyone around to join. :)
17:18.38HaDAkyeah. it's hard for me to test it, too. i gave my pre2 to my sister last week >_>
17:19.20HaDAki mean, try to switch it, and send me messages to see if i can find anything, i guess
17:20.14MrokiiIt's fine. It will be a temporary solution only anyway.
17:20.24MrokiiThanks for the help.
17:21.41MrokiiI guess I'll get rid soon of the Pre 3 to get something more up to date.
17:24.08HaDAkwhat carrier?
17:28.04MrokiiI'm in Germany, using "1&1".
17:28.13MrokiiAnd I need to leave now.
17:28.14HaDAkgermany, so GSM
17:28.19HaDAkwaves
17:28.43MrokiiWhy, do you need a Pre 3? :)
17:28.56HaDAkmaybe so :)
17:28.57MrokiiI'll stay in here, just in case, but will be afk now.
17:29.14HaDAki'd like to get my hands on a GSM pre3, yes.
17:29.25MrokiiMaybe we can make a deal then. :)
17:29.37HaDAk:)
17:29.45MrokiiAnyhow, I need to leave.
17:29.47Mrokii-gone-

19:39.59dwc-so, the "drive" exposed from the terminal on your mac is just the /media/internal partition
19:40.03dwc-which is why /var didn't exist
19:40.12HaDAkahh, right
19:40.16HaDAkthanks for the memory jog, dwc-
19:40.31HaDAki couldn't remember the mount point
19:40.31dwc-so you should have put the ifles there instead of wherever /dev/mapper/store-media points to, which is part of LVM
19:40.59HaDAkright.
19:41.06HaDAki couldn't remember. i tried to make that clear to him :)
19:41.10dwc-I've had some issues with freetether on my pre3
19:41.37dwc-both that and the hotspot app don't seem to consistently set ip_forward
19:42.15HaDAki wonder why that is.
19:42.37dwc-dunno, but I haven't had the motivation to try to figure that out
19:42.47dwc-(but I do have a shell script that I run from a terminal that turns it on)
